View Full Version : A change in air combat routines?

I have noticed that SAM's seem to be MUCH more effective in 4.0
I just lost 2 SEAD flights with a 9 EW and Popeyes (range 245) to a Tor-M ( SA-15) EW 6 and range of 240.
I made the pass with my HARM on and 1 Popeye on and guns off.
Back in the pre 4.0 version, having a +3 EW and a range advantage pretty much meant a kill on the SPSAM with a SEAD strike. This time the radar on the Tor-M didn't even shut down.
Has the SEAD lost it's defensive bonus? Experience of the SEAD strikes was 73 and 71. Was the Exp just to low? Or have I hit a run of bad luck. I say run because I lost 4 out of 4 Hinds in another game, which is unusual for me.
Has "If it flies, it dies." become the rule now or am I just lost in the fog of war.
If the routines resolving ground to air combat have changed, I'll just stop buying air. Why spend the points to buy aluminum lined craters? If it hasn't then I'll grit my teeth and wait for my luck to change.

I haven't noticed anything changing, though I can't be 100% sure about it.
There are always some lucky shots and some unlucky shots.
At least that is my experience with the few 4.0 battles so far.

There have been no changes to EW etc, that I recall.

I'm hoping it's just a run of bad luck. That happens in SP, part of the charm I suppose. If I have time I'll run a test to see what effect the EW settings have in 4.0
I use a lot of air when I can get it and I have NEVER had SEAD strikes with such a large EW advantage plus a range advantage get shot down twice in a row. It made me curious.
Plus I just lost 2 UAV's, the last one to a Stinger, I think.
