View Full Version : Heretics?

I have just returned to this (awesome and greatly great) game. Playing as Gath, I notice, though....that one of my commanders is a "heretic". I cannot really see how this unit is helpful. Sure, it is "stealthy", but it combats my own dominion, right? Am I correct about this, or am I reading the description wrong?

It combats any dominion. Plus it's stealthy. So, what about sending him into enemy lands to lower that enemy's dominion?

Or, if there are places you don't want your own dominion for some reason, you could use them for that, too.

Or for places inside your own territory where the enemy dominion has crept in.

I commonly have large chunks of my territory which are under enemy dominion, especially when I'm doing well militarily. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

But yeah, I think the intended use is for stealthily preaching in enemy lands.

ok, that makes sense....but the way the description read....it sounded as though he combats the "True Faith", which would be mine, right? Anyways....that makes sense....if he is a stealthy preacher....

thanks

Yeah, he does combat your own dominion if you let him. Generally heretics are a bit annoying. But it is possible for their hereticness to be useful, if you stick them in enemy dominion.

LA Pythium has a nightmare time with heretics.

Heretic is generally costed as a disadvantage.

And to somewhat counter llamabeast... in my games, everyone ELSE has a nightmare time with the Serpent Cult's heretics. =D

They can be useful to counter LA Ermor/Ri'Lyeh.

Another fun trick: summon a Black Servant, give him a Stone Idol (to make him a heretic) and a Bane Venom Charm and then send him into the enemy lands.

Black servant + bane venom charm is good in the early game, but adding a stone idol makes it a lot more expensive and doesn't work until later.

It's worth the cost if it drives your opponent nuts http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Are black servants, or undead in general, immune to the bane venom charm?

Undead are not affected by disease.

A heretic is basically an atheist preacher, I think. They lower any dominion in the province they are in, yours or the enemies'.They're just dom sappers. With LA Pythium, I use them on the frontier, to lower enemy dom, then move them out if I want to push my own dom.

I imagine they are excellent for dom-killing enemies who have been confined to nasty fortresses.
