View Full Version : Global Spell Limit

So, currently I am in a game where I am casting a lot of Globals, in fact I am the only one doing so.

My concern has to do with Globals being overwritten as more are cast after the 5th. I am under the impression that there is a comparison of gem cost, is this true? If so, I won't be bothered if someone knocks off one of the lesser spells by casting another weak Global. But if they can kill one of the big ones without spending as many gems, that wrinkles the strategy quite a bit.

So how random is it? Can a 30 gem Global overwrite a 300 gem Global by going past the limit? Or will it only succeed if there is a Global up that has less gems into it?

If there are 5 ones new one targets random one [assuming there isn't the same one on in play]. And you get a cost comparison. I think +5 gems for every caster level above required [when casting, not when dispeling], boosters don't give that bonus [though don't give the penalty if caster was below] + random roll [you'd have to check manual, use search option to see what is the roll] + additional gems spent.

That's right, thank you! I just looked it up, I can't believe I didn't check there first. I had this funny feeling it was one of those odd things that doesn't seem to follow the rules stated in the manual. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

Thanks for clearing this up, it makes perfect sense now.

If anyone reads this and happens to know the statistical odds on a DRN for how much of a gem difference is needed to give ~98% safety, I'd be curious of that, just for reference. Thanks again. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

The DRN odds chart is in the manual. But odds have nothing to do with player behavior =).

Use the table at the front of the manual, page 7 or something. 98% safety is somewhere around +10 to +12, IIRC.
