No, if he dies in his own dominion he is full recovered and with full magic in your captial. You may get afflictions like feeblemind which would lower your actual magic level & which heals over time.

In fact, dying in your own dominion doesn't count as "dying." It's more like Ritual of Return. You vanish from the battle map but are not reported as a casualty in the battle summary. You do not lose magic.

Technically there is a big difference to a ritual of return: You will lose all your equipment!
