Scenario 05 Beisfjord 5/40 Polish attack vs German defend

I am getting beat up,usually I don't have this much of a problem with this type of battle because I use a lot of artillery but in this battle I have two 2inch tubes and they only have twelve rounds so is there any advice somebody could give me as to how to beat this scenario because I just can't win.

thanks in advance

The best way to kill someone with a 2 inch mortar is to beat him over the head with the tube. "Sights" are a white line down the side of the tube. We had better uses for the 2 men elsewhere in the platoon as riflemen or runners etc.

That being said - the first Tiger 2 kill in Normandy was with a 2 inch (parked, bombing up beside an ammo truck which the tiddly little bomb set off) http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/smirk.gif

thanks andy, but what do i do about the men i can't see until it is too late, example I go in a building hex and since I don't have arty the ai has a ready shot from 150m(3 hexes) away and those men that are that close with no arty falling on them shoot me to pieces all the time and most of the time I can't fire back, do I stay away from the houses all together?

P.S the mortars don't have a line of sight.

Hmm - opening that scenario up in the editor, and examining the balance of forces and the deployment I can only say that it is set up as a massacre of the POL forces.

The Nazi is defending with equal forces - maybe even slightly more, and the POL forces are walking into a kill sack, and only has 25 turns as well, with next to no arty support whatsoever bar 24 rounds or so of tiddly 2 inch. The only way I can see to do this one is to sneak up the south, and clean the Nazis out with the bayonet, house by house. The only way to do that will be to stack your troops up and do mass charges. It also uses your guys up pretty quickly, and he is not 1/3 your force size - he has a company+ same as you.

Not balanced or winnable unless the POL player is exceptionally luck all the way through methinks!.

But real life is like that. Maybe try it several times and see if you get a better score rather than trying a "win"?.

I've played around with this scenario a bit, and tried flanking assaults to the right over the bridge, and up the direct route along the water. Not pretty either way. As Andy noted, it's a kill sack.

I've settled on taking 8 or 9 turns to stack up the Polish forces by platoon in hex 58,72 and 60,75, and then unleash the dogs of war with liberal use of smoke grenades and the 2in mortar smoke bombs left & right of the line of attack and a whole lot of recon by fire (Area Fire) as you plow ahead for the objective hexes. Keep the units on point as fresh as possible, screen your right flank along that creek with the depleted units (you'll soon have plenty of them), and hail the heroes...
