I know I haven't been around lately (mostly due to now fixed internet [fixed by going from cable to ADSL :S]), but now I have to tell you all that I'm going away. (To join the military! [which is mandatory])
So you won't be seeing much of me http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

I've attached to this post the source code for my very incomplete map generator and border drawing programs, just in case someone is interested (I promised I will publish them). You'll need Allegro 4.2.2 to compile them. (check out allegro.cc)

So good bye everybody, maybe I'll catch you in some odd free weekend, or maybe if I get some free time during the actual service (the next few months are Tironut, but during the following 3 years I might have constant internet access [though not much time to play around with it]).

Farewell Agrajag in your service. May you pass it swiftly.

You probably know there are types of service that resemble office 9-17 work, right?- Maybe your service will be like that and you'll be able to show some more here http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I already know what I'll be doing (generally). Like I said, I'll probably have constant internet after I'm done with tironut so I could drop by now and then http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
I'll only really know in three months.

Enjoy Tironut.

Know what you're going to do? Have you undergone exams and such to get into elite units/jobs? or had anything interesting in the manilla?

As for free time, if you're gonna be a jobnik you'll have free time. I do, and I've been at the IDF for the past 5 years http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif (actually http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif )

Yes, and I passed http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

So no chance of being a jobnik who daily goes home (except when there are other guards duties and such)?

Anyway, idf girls are not that hot. Problem is that they tend to wear uniform, cloth designed to oppose any notion of sexuality.
Although I have seen some pretty nice gals, but like I said, they all look better on civilian cloths! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

I think I have a solid idea where a gifted random generator developer, who has passed some tests for some possible elite unit in the army may serve http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif - Might be I served some aeons in the past in a similar unit...

Then again, it was so long ago I may have just passed the three years of service idling about in some 9-17 work, day dreaming of my next MOM moves and running stracraft LAN parties on weekends when I had to stay at base http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

HoneyBadger

Um, Tpek. Women in uniform are the hotness. Especially if they're trained to kill you.

JimMorrison
July 29th, 2008, 06:03 PM
Nooooo. They're trained to kill the Chinese assassins that are trained to kill you.

But in order to do so properly, they need very powerful thighs. Don't ask me why.

HoneyBadger
July 29th, 2008, 09:54 PM
Yes, very powerful, very...flexible thighs.

sum1lost
July 30th, 2008, 12:43 AM

Renojustin

Let's just all agree that most female assassins would indeed be quite hot, by definition.

I can say with this with unwavering certainty. That is the most adorable Swedish soldier I've ever seen.

Do they make bulletproof burkhas? Perhaps if I get some venture capital together I can corner that market...

HoneyBadger
July 30th, 2008, 01:00 PM
Sure, she *looks* cute, but notice they're not showing her hands? The hands holding the minigun?

And the next picture down-that Ukranian's hair is clearly a deadly weapon.

Don't let their babealiciousness fool you, people!

They're trained to kill.

Tpek
July 30th, 2008, 02:04 PM
These girls are not trained to kill.
They're obviously non-combat duty (which is btw the default for girls, girls have to specifically ask to get into actual combat units).
I could kill them by just telling them the sheqem (sort of a discounted store in military bases for purchasing things such as food, drinks, sweets, and such...) is permenantly closed and they will now have to pass their days actually working. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Wraithlord: When did you serve? (you make it sound so long ago) and where? (You imply you served in a software unit, however you also said you only served 3 years... so...)

HoneyBadger
July 30th, 2008, 02:26 PM
I'm pretty sure they still train them, Tpek. And anyway, if you didn't happen to notice, these are soldiers from around the world, so I'm thinking they could be trained to kill you with food, drinks, sweets, or whatever else came to hand, and you wouldn't be any the wiser until your head fell off.

I'm quite certain that in America at least, there are not seperate versions of boot camp for boys and girls. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

And in a few of these, for example the Chinese and Korean ladies, they sure look like they mean business (not to discount the Iranian lasses, they just scare me). Granted, in the snowy Ukrainian photo, they look like they're giggling, but women giggle to get you off your guard, trust me. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

South Korea even has an elite special forces unit with a small number of female operatives, and they are apparently pretty bad-***, seeing as how they train with Delta Force and SAS, among other elite units.

Yes, I served long ago, 10 years ago actually. I was supposed to serve six years as part of an academic program, but there was a time when after three years one could choose not to continue (apparently hi-tech industry was at a low and tech units in the army were more attractive or some such). I made my choice and haven't regretted it since. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Ahh, that was some time ago. It's before they started giving academic officers free funding/scholarship for their degree (today in case you don't know, atudaim get the bachelor for free, and some even get the masters for free!).
Of course today those academic officers have very hard time getting out of the army before the 6 year period ends. I certainly know some who've been trying for years http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

Anyway, I'm not saying that all girls in the army are always harmless (just mostly harmless http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif). But that most girls are. Most of the females in world armies serve non-combat roles. There are few women in modern western nations that are capable of being the equal of males in soldiery (they lack physical and psychological characteristics needed for excelling in it).

Hey, not fair, this old dog had to pay all the way to masters, cost me a /threads/images/Graemlins/icon41.gif, then again four months worth of hi-tech compensation more or less make up for said expenses http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Yep, though I've been given the feeling that today's Hi-tech industry doesn't really require academic degrees much. Experience in units such as mamram seem to be enough. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

Do you still work in hi-tech? if so which company?

My Tironut should be 3 months, but I also know it should end at November 2 at the latest, lets see if anyone can figure out where I'm going to http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

As for females, by default they got to none-combat roles and only have 2-3 weeks of Tironut. I'm a bit exaggerating when I say this, but most end up as some sort of secretary http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif
Of course, there are quite a few that want combat duties, and they do the same things their male counterparts do.

And yes, I'm home for saturday, but that probably won't be happening too often.

I think that's the difference between "female soldier", and "female military support personnel". I know I'd be annoyed at anyone calling themselves a soldier for going through a 2 week camp on how to properly make your bed, and what an MRE is. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

Tpek

Yes, they usually let you go back home the first saturday. In my basic training, only after the first weekend did we get weapons&proper-training so we could start doing guard duty ourselves.
