Server: LlamaServer (automated play-by-email, FAQ below)
http://www.shrapnelcommunity.com/threads/showthreaded.php?Number=531116
Hosting interval: Initially 24 hours, 48 at Turn 20, 72 at 50
Age: Early
Graphs: On
Settings: Default except for renaming on, Magic Site at 55% (+10%, which tends to mean that people generally get the gem types they need)
Mods: None (non-negotiable)
Map: 10 land provinces per person. Basically, it is a little larger than Medium Random(learned my lesson from DarkParadise). I'll generate a few and choose home provinces that don't suck.
Players: 8+ (I'll close once 8+ is reached)
Rules: Anything goes. Unless you are hacking files or spamming email/mail, any tactic allowed by the game is considered fair game.

Exception: If you make a Pact with someone, record it in the game thread with the Turn (and record when you end it). If you don't want to record it for any reason (eg. secret pact), then there shouldn't be any complaining about pact-breakers in the game thread.

Nation--Player:
Lanka - K
Hinnon - archaeolept
Neifleheim - Executor
Pangaea - Deadnature
Ry'leh - PsiSoldier
Mictlan - mighty_scoop
Abysia - Aapeli
Fomoria - DonCorazon

i'll try the new guys... hinnom... though i am extremely rusty and barely know what a spell is

K
August 2nd, 2008, 08:38 PM
That's fine. Baalz's strategy guide on them is pretty comprehensive (and he did just school me with Hinnon in the last game).

Hinnom chosen so soon...
Niefelheim for me.

archaeolept
August 2nd, 2008, 09:04 PM
heh, they have some ok troops ;p

i like the look of those chariots http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/redface.gif

sign me up for Pangea if you don't mind

Executor

I like them more because of all the magic paths they have, and the horrors they easily send, and dawn guards and many many other thing, but like the Neifels also!

Wow, Lanka, Hinnom, Nief. Nothing but heavy hitters. I guess you guys don't like a challenge, eh? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

hey, still some hvy hitters left... mictlan, helheim... sauromatia is no slouch

hopefully there are 8 of them :p

mind you, I haven't actually played an MP game in EA (other than a blitz today), but it looks like it has no lack of power nations

PsiSoldier
August 3rd, 2008, 10:47 AM
Never done MP before but I'll join with Mictlan, though Ive never played them before my current Single player game right now.. but my favs have already been picked =/

Unless we can have underwater nations in which case I suppose I'd choose R'lyeh since it may be good to have some extra breathing room for my first MP game.

mighty_scoop
August 3rd, 2008, 12:52 PM
I would play R'lyeh or if the poster before wants to play them i would take Mictlan instead of him.

I'm a mp newbie, so hope it will be fine for you that a join.

Edit : I would prefer R'lyeh

K
August 3rd, 2008, 01:50 PM
PsiSoldier seems to have called Ryleh first.

Mightly_scoop, is Mictlan OK?

I like it! Newbies unite!!!
Just hope I don't get swarmed again like in Paladin.

Any tactic allowed by the game is considered fair game.

K , Does this include bugs like move and patrol, and to copy/paste Bogus orders and say use ethereal crossbow cause that would be so good!!!

Yes. I'd rather just play the game rather than try to enforce rules that are unenforceable.

That being said, the Move and Patrol bug was fixed a while back, and none of the remaining bugs actually affect the game much.

For example, Bogus's orders are actually not that good against real armies. I've experimented with them extensively and never even had an opponent notice them being used. They were that bad. If you consider that anyone can get them, I don't think it's unfair in any way.

I shall choose Abysia.

Well it could be a disaster against SC like Seraph,
you send in a couple of scouts with ethereal crossbow or something like that, and sooner or later you're gonna kill someone very important.
Just hope I make it that far!

In the case of such an SC, more often than not they are alone. So, not sure who else your guys are going to be shooting at. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

I'll give Helheim a run if there is still a spot.

K
August 3rd, 2008, 06:56 PM
Ok, it looks like we have our eight. Here are the map files.

I've contacted llamabest and when he sets up the game to accept pretenders I'll change the first message and send everyone an IM from this site.

Looks like a fun mix!

DonCorazon
August 3rd, 2008, 08:43 PM
May be an issue with the map - I am unable to move to any provinces in a couple test runs with it.

archaeolept
August 3rd, 2008, 08:52 PM
I can move just fine in my test. :wtf:

edit: no, you're right - only provinces directly connected to my capital have connectivity, and only to my capital. very weird http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/confused.gif

further investigation: new game; restarted dom and created a new name... it is still only that one province (that was my starting province in my first try) that has any connectivity. Province 82

Ok, looking in the .map file... only those neighbours are listed lol... file was truncated perhaps?

Executor
August 3rd, 2008, 09:51 PM
So, I'm guessing we'll be waiting a little more with the pretenders...

K
August 3rd, 2008, 10:24 PM
Uh, the map is FUBARed. I'll make a new one and resend to llamabeast.

DonCorazon
August 3rd, 2008, 10:33 PM
Anyone mind if I switch to Fomoria? Been trying to mess around with Helheim and am not a big fan. If it is a prob, I'll stick with Helheim. Thanks.

K
August 3rd, 2008, 10:54 PM
Ok, new map. Hopefully, it's not FUBARed.

archaeolept
August 3rd, 2008, 11:26 PM
Don - i can't imagine there's a problem. Helheim is pretty good though http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

oh course their troops are expensive and somewhat fragile, and they don't have such great magic diversity

edit: looks like you've been updated to formoria,

K?

also, map seems to be fine

DonCorazon
August 4th, 2008, 12:36 AM
archaeolept:
Yeah, I have never played Helheim but knew it was strong and given all the other heavy hitters - Lanka, Big N, Hin just picked it out of the blue. But in messing around I saw it's not really the type of nation I like. Not magically diverse as you noted and its good mages are cap-only and non-sacred.

So looks like K updated me to Fomoria so I'm good to go.
Looking forward to this game!

K
August 4th, 2008, 05:42 AM
Ok, it looks we are set up to accept pretenders. I'm using a beta feature of llamabeast's, so we may have a funny error and will need to resubmit.

It looks OK for now, so let's do it!

- E-mail the file to: pretenders[ at ]llamaserver[ dot ]net
- Crucially, you must have the game name in the subject line of your e-mail

llamabeast
August 4th, 2008, 01:08 PM
You won't need to resubmit, in any case, since there's no reason pretender files should get lost.

I should think everything will run pretty much smoothly actually. *crosses fingers*

Executor
August 4th, 2008, 02:49 PM

It'll either be brilliant or a disaster...

August 4th, 2008, 02:52 PM

DonCorazon
August 4th, 2008, 02:54 PM

just covering the "disaster" option :p

Executor
August 4th, 2008, 03:20 PM
Thats one way to do it... but somehow super strong bless seems a little better, it took me about 4 bloody hours to decide what to make,
And why would you use the crone, I don't find very good, she has old age, only if your planning to cast twiceborn and make her a wight mage and if lucky get another death level when she dies.

archaeolept

Bur really, I'm playing a game where someone took a awake site searching pretender and he's doing good, well he was until he met me...

K
August 5th, 2008, 01:41 AM
Wow. I just got boned by my own mapmaking skills. I have a province I forgot to mark "no start", so it only has three land neighbors.

Ouch.

archaeolept
August 5th, 2008, 05:44 AM
three's not too awful... i once joined an mp game, using the Karan map, and started w/ one land neighbour - a wasteland surrounded by mountains that only had one egress, which was in turn two away from two enemy capitals...

Aapeli
August 5th, 2008, 08:22 AM
Finally I shall practise my new strategy which I invented pretty much in the ten minutes I used in creating my pretender. Ok I should admit that the strategy hasnt been yet invented but shall develop during the course of the game (this sounds like I have yet again failed in making a long term plan http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif).

PsiSoldier
August 5th, 2008, 12:36 PM
Eh, I think I know where you are.. sucks.. I'm playing a Single player game on the map and I see Pangea started there on my sp.

On the bright side if your where I think you are you have an area to expand into that no one can get to too easily without going past your capitol or flying or something..

Damned Bad luck on my first turn, cursed units and Unrest.. Gee wiz. Off to a great start.

archaeolept
August 5th, 2008, 03:27 PM
cursed units is generally pretty irrelevant, unless they got an awake pretender, and usually it's a witch so you get a few gems. Unrest sucks.

If you took misfortune, you can't ***** about it though. If you took luck, you sure can http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

PsiSoldier
August 6th, 2008, 10:38 PM
Eh.. hope that doesn't happen with me given my already poor income situation. Though I sent my scout before I sent my army, hopefully my scout didn't lie or my army is dead. Guess I'll know when Fomoria completes its turn.

Ok so Im trying to find another MP game to join as this is my first and only MP game so far and I'm not having any luck finding one on the forums but yet I keep seeing new games starting on LlamaServer Do people just randomly join some of those games without there being a thread in the forum or what?

Where else do you find games to join?

archaeolept
August 8th, 2008, 10:52 PM
some of those may be tests. just look on this forum is best - a whole bunch were just started so theirs a bit of surfeit.

don't join a game blind - who knows the rules. You would be kicked or set AI.

I know the one called Artifacts Forgery (where you start w/ artifacts) is probably still open - just post.

Aapeli

One possibility is to create a game of your own (its quite easy now thanks to llamabeast) but you shouldnt if there are already lots games going on as it might be hard to fill them. But you can always ask if theres intrest. I think there is an IRC channel for dominions but I wouldnt know much about that.

I dont think I got as bad start as you others did even when my scales include death, drain and, of course, heat 3 http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif.

The foul smelling giants of Hinnom have launched an assault on the dainty, sweet smelling giants of Fomoria. If you are concerned about the astronomical lead Hinnom has in all charts, you might consider joining in on our defense. Alternatively, we could all just agree that Hinnom is the one true pretender now.

Fomoria chooses to fight, at least until they start eating us. That is pretty scary.

Cheers, DC of Fomoria

Aapeli
August 14th, 2008, 09:57 AM
I no case what so ever is the nation of Citis going to just surrender whoever the foe is. We shall fight to the last lizard! But of course fortunately to us the nation of Hinnom is no where near us (I actually dont know where it is due to the complete absence of scouts in our recruits, I guess a lizard stands out too well in a crowd:D).

DonCorazon

archaeolept
August 14th, 2008, 11:40 AM
that was a really close fight... luckily i had some troop reinforcements passing through. It is certainly true that I think Hinnom PD needs to be nerfed (use their unarmored troops that no one ever buys as the pd) - that's the biggest issue w/ them IMO. also, some stat reductions on their troops, and lowering their preferred temp to heat-1 - those would go a long way to balancing them out

DonCorazon
August 14th, 2008, 11:54 AM
i should have waited to be sure the coast was clear. but your vanilla troops are way tougher than I imagined! i think hinnom may earn the status of a nation that needs to be ganged up on immediately like LA Ermor...

so, even though otherwise i've been enjoying the good pace, if we could go to 48 hrs as per the game post, I would much appreciate it. I can't realistically do 24 hr hosting as d/ling and u/ling turns is going to be somewhat iffy

and the faithless micts are about to attack me ;)

The grace of Niefelheim goes far, but will be abused by none!
This is the last warning to all in the Niefel land, leave now and you will be spared othervice we will order a full scale attack.
Niefelheim claims dominion over land Ralothia 55, Mitclan will either leave or will be killed, and Rlyeh will retreat underwater or suffer the same fate.

Fomoria has been liberated in the first blow dealt to the cannibals of Hinnom. We call upon all Hinnom's neighbors to strike now while the evil brutes are forced to deal with the Fomorian insurgency!

And beware, Hinnom has taken control of the site that allows one to recruit Daoine Sidhe, so in addition to everything else, they now have stealthy, sacred, glamoured troops.

It is an honor to hear this from you ... but it is my first multiplayer war and first game with/vs Hinnon ever ... either i overestimated my units or i totally underestimated the Hinnon forces ... regardless of which you kicked my *** in our first battle.

It would appear that both Lanka and Pangaea are trying to put out the Abysian flames, and Hinnom is being attacked from all directions, whilst Rlyeh is surely planning a military campaign of its own with all that army building up.

And while the entire world is at war, the blue flames of Niefelheim grow stronger and await the right moment to fulfill their destiny and became the rulers of this world!!!

Wait...

EDIT: Muahahahahahahaha!!!!
That's better.

I pity those two nations that try to defy our insanely powerful realm. The wrath of Furriculus shall burn you like maggots in the inferno!

Ok but seriously were done for but we wont go down easily, and I even think the abysian dominion is leading in the graphs (leading or second). I just almost got a dom kill for Lanka but I totally underestimated the power of palanakshas (or something similar) and a water 9 bless. My only confrontations with Lanka is in this game and in one that im currently playing and oh dear I didnt know they were that good. Id better try them myself and see what they can do...

Fomoria took the worst scales ever so will never be a real threat to anyone. It was my last experiment with Production, which I am convinced is useless. Anyway, we seem to have beaten back the cannibals with our "shock" and awe campaign, but we have become a backwards nation probably soon to follow Abysia into the history books.

This is a message from Mictlan to all the leaders in Hellscape ...

the evil cold blooded giants of Niefelheim declared war to our friendly nation ... you will for sure say : i don't care ... but you all should care ... every (even minor) skilled spy should have told there leaders, that Niefelheim holds the most provinces, has the biggest income and has an enormous army of double blessed niefel giants ... to sum up they are the biggest powerhouse in Hellscape an by far the greatest menace for every nation.
But again ... why should you care if the declare war to me and not to you ... let me explain ... i was getting kicked pretty hard from Hinnon in our bloody long lasting war ... I'm realistic and know that i don't have a chance to stop Niefel ( nevertheless i will cause Niefelheim a warm welcoming in the hot Mictlan lands). If they manage to conquer my lands without trouble, they will be most likely unstoppable ... and that's the point where you will care ( but is likely too late then ) ...
The best i could do is to slow and bind ( a part of ) their army. This would be your chance to stop ... so nations of Hellscape ... don't let our beautiful lands become unfriendly ice desert.

Greetings

Mictlan

Do we need a rollback? If three agree I'll do it (a rollback helps me, so I should stay neutral).

I'm against a rollback ... this was one of the few ( to be honest very few) turns that something went good for me ... i killed the Hinnon pretender and two of his really annoying thugs ... i rollback would be unfair for me

archaeolept
September 28th, 2008, 11:41 AM
i think you only killed one - as to the pretender, the rock, I very much doubt I could prevent that in any way if I tried. He's not important, so no big deal. Nice attack though :)

PsiSoldier

Im against a roll back.. I had a very nice Random event that gave me 1500 Gold.. so Im definitely against rollback unless the rollback wouldnt change random events.. but I would think that it would change them. Or unless Neifle wanted to make up the gold loss to me from not getting that event with a roll back. ;)

DonCorazon
September 28th, 2008, 03:52 PM
Killing a pretender and a 1500 gp event sound like enough reason not to roll back IMHO.

Ok, since no one is actually asking for a rollback and several major events have happened, we'll do turns as usual.

hi K - Executor did say he's having problems w/ his internet connection - can we turn the timer off for a bit until we hear from him? If he stales again we should roll back, or somesuch.

PsiSoldier
September 29th, 2008, 08:50 PM
Yeah, its getting down to the wire and he has still not submitted his turn. If he doesnt get his turn in this time I'd say roll back regardless of what happens. Assumming we hear from him at all..

Maybe he should arrange for a Sub until he gets his problems worked out. All I know is this game would be a lot less interesting if Neifle had to drop out for some reason.

Alright, we need two votes:

Vote 1: Get sub for Neiflheim until his internet connection is fixed. We'll postpone until then.

Vote 2: Roll back so Neifle sub/original player can do his last turn properly(2nd stale).

I don't think it is too much of an issue that Abysia staled. His god is dead, his good mages killed, and I'm knocking down his last castle.

Yay or nay on Vote 1 and Vote 2?

mighty_scoop
September 30th, 2008, 07:52 AM

Aapeli
September 30th, 2008, 11:21 AM
Ya really dont need to mind about my stales (me being Abysia). And im sorry for holding the game back. I shall try to finish my last turns properly (or remember to put me AI). Im gonna need to figure out how to tackle those tough blessed gorillas (their kicking my butt in my second game as well).

DonCorazon
September 30th, 2008, 11:42 AM
Putting myself in the shoes of Neifel, who seems to have been pretty involved in the game up until his internet went down, I would want a rollback and a delay until I was up and running. That said, its been 3 days I think since he logged in - seems like a long time to not be able to at least find an internet connection and post a quick update.

So I'd say we rollback the last turn and look for a sub with the caveat that it could be just for a turn or the entire game, depending on Niefel's internet connection.

Normally I'd say its not worth that much trouble but since Niefel is leading the game, it probably makes sense. I, Fomoria, am dead anyway, so my personal preference is to speed things up but I sympathize if Niefel just lost internet and is taking a few days to sort things out.

PsiSoldier
September 30th, 2008, 02:19 PM
Yeah I'd say roll back for this last turn, NOT 2 turns and give a time extension for the next turn. If he doesnt log on within the next 2 days maybe start looking for a temp sub with possibility of being permanent.

Considering he is the leader in the game Im pretty sure he hasnt given up on trying to get back online.

K
September 30th, 2008, 11:22 PM
Ok, we seem to have a reasonable consensus.

We will:
Roll back one turn. We'll give him +48 hours, and if we haven't heard anything then we'll get a temp sub.

Well, for the same reason as scoop (limited time/too many games going) I'm setting myself to AI this turn. I just threw my main army at Lanka's capital and evidently forgot to set 12 of my dryads to NOT sneak, they all got individually massacred. I was sure to lose anyway but I was hoping to do at least SOME damage.

Anyway, this is my first mp game as evidenced by several poor choices: 3 (that's right 3) dominion-strength, losing my pretender on the second turn and more. But it has been a fun learning experience. I would prefer to fight to the last but right now I just don't have the time. Have fun guys.

PsiSoldier
October 28th, 2008, 05:04 PM
Eh I could have Tartarians in 2 turns if I wanted, but I have better things to do. How about an Un-killable (unless he is one hit killed) and nearly magic immune Seraph with +16 Awe? I believe we have one of those on one of our lovely beaches playing volleyball with the Wraith Lords :D

Hey you forged my "certain item"!!!

I think it's about time we all attacked R'lyeh before he gets insanly powerful. ( and by all I mean me, and maybe Hinnom )
I decalre war to the unholy nation of R'lyeh!!!

I guess the steel ovens is in province 59.

P.S. I'll never play in another game with only one water nation unless that water nation is me, it's just unfair.

PsiSoldier
October 29th, 2008, 07:00 PM
Lol, what is the certain item? Ive forged too many to know what your talking about. Mage Bane, Woundflame, Amon Hotep, Armor of Virtue, Caractor the pocket lich, the Tome of High Power or the soulstone of Wolves or something I missed? And yeah its in 59. Come and try to take it haha.

I cant say that its a problem with there being only one water nation either, considering the fact that if it were not for magic I would completely suck on land while your army is far better than my standard army on land. Besides you have gone undistrubed for most of the game with over 20 land provinces where as there are less water provinces than that in the entire map.

Blah it wasnt much of a battle. his Sorceress just got lucky with a magic duel. 6 Astral Seraph vs. 3 2 astral Sorceresses and one 3 Astral Sorc. just luck. If I had had more time I'd have teleported a few more astral mage's in to the province to give my seraph time to get out but I guess you guys didnt delay hosting because when I got to my computer this morning I only had 30 minutes left which was just enough time for me to do a few small things and send in the turn. =(

ah, that sucks. It is K that can delay hosting or not... not any of us. You should send him a pm at least. both executor and I expressed our support for a delay.

also, that was pretty lucky on executor's part, but not too far out of the realm of possibility. scripting returning would have saved you, if he had some pearls. or just retreating, if you had a safe retreat province.

Executor
November 16th, 2008, 04:25 PM
Scripting phenix pyre would have saved him, and each of my sorceresses had a 29% to make it, so it was a fair chance. By the laws of probability I SHOULD have won anyway, but it was pure luck that the first one made it.
The chances are S2+1-6 against S4+1-6.

And don't worry, I've got something else planned for any other Seraphs.

By the way I just forged the dimension rod to keep you away from it.

Oh and only the initial asrtal skill counts, so neither forbidden light helped you nor my booster helped me.

PsiSoldier

archaeolept
November 16th, 2008, 04:49 PM
right but that would cost you a wish... pretty pricey for the dimensional rod... i don't understand why it is worth it.

mind duel only uses your base astral level. no boosters or spells alter the level it is conducted under.

PsiSoldier
November 16th, 2008, 05:49 PM
It might not be worth it. But I get 100 Pearls a turn so its no big deal. I'd only wish for it if I thought it was really a threat though. If wishing for it would save a few fully equipped SC's though... It would be worth it.

I'm about to the point that I would just say **** it and take the staled turns and lets get this game over with so I can focus on my team games. I dunno..

Still thats 3 wishes Ive missed and 4 or 5 less Tartarins summoned. that I'd otherwise have on top of whatever other misc. crap I'd have done. As well as having not been able to move my unit with the Forbidden light to where I need him which he would now be had I been able to move him...

I gotta think that the greater part of your power is intact, and you should have some muscle to throw around. The staling is unfortunate, but things could have been made more clear and posted in the thread.

I'm just enjoying tooling around on my bike, so whatever ;)

Doh!

Yeh, I'm kinda on cruise control in this game. I'm open to suggestions about a resolution to this problem.

Very interesting.
I am still to watch the whole battle but don't you think that is just a little excessive?
I mean 5 abomination, Chayot, pack of Tartarians, dozens of wrath lords, liches, djinn, even a very equipped rudra?, golems, mind lords, Pyriphlogos, Faery Queen, a lot of little mages, a bunch of summons including wights, ghosts, sprites, chaff and of course a INSANELY POWERFUL Master Lich with a total of 63 MAGIC PATHS!!!!

archaeolept
December 14th, 2008, 01:02 PM
heh - i didn't even notice the lich.

it was definitely a sight, though.

edit: hey, 41 paths only - must have been 3 wishes for magic power.

That's fine with me, the game will probably be over soon anyway.

Huh, it seems I've lost my pretender also. Shame.

Oh I've almost forgot to ask, did that surprise Astral Corruption put a stop on the clam factory???

PsiSoldier
December 14th, 2008, 07:43 PM
Eh Yeah Astral corruption is indeed putting a bit of a halt to the clam factory, but not the wishing. I'm trying to forge one clam this turn to see how it goes.

I'm thinking about casting a spell that will screw all of you up like Utterdark to get even for the Astral corruption though. At least my Pretender has blood magic so I can wish for blood slaves and start summoning some bad *** Blood Summons. I wish I could have been doing vampires but thats part of the weakness of a water nation.. an imortal vampire dies and where does he go... Cant go underwater...

PsiSoldier
December 15th, 2008, 12:58 PM
By the way.. Ive figured out a relatively easy way to get rid of your Astral corruption. I'm assuming you poured more blood slaves into it than I could put Astral pearls to dispel it so that leaves me the option of overwriting your Astral corruption with my own and purposely getting the caster killed.

100 Pearls = 250 Blood slaves.. Shouldnt take too many wishes to make sure I can overwrite your Astral corruption.

So ammusingly enough in a few turns I may have an SC that you actualy do not want to kill haha. Guess who will be first to try and break the next siege of my fort. or go on some dangerous province raiding trips.

Executor, no NAP should hold in a situation such as this - there is always an implicit exception for force majeure. At present trends it looks like all opposing dominion will be destroyed in 4 turns, maybe 5.

I'm open also to other alternatives, if you guys want to continue fighting w/out having the game end. Or, otherwise, when the dom wave crushes everything in its path, we could declare a joint victory - there's not much honour gained by winning w/ Hinnom ;)

though I am looking forward to fighting some of R'lyeh's SCs. I've never even seen a chayot before :)

DonCorazon
December 26th, 2008, 02:09 PM
pardon the voice from the past, i was just checking in to see who was winning this game and saw archaeo's post
- how did Hinnom get such an overwhelming dominion especially relative to niefel who seems to have about the same number of provinces? just curious as I have never seen a player domkill someone who still had so much land...

archaeolept
December 26th, 2008, 02:22 PM
the kids weren't paying attention to dominion - and Hinnom can dom push w/ the best of them.

since serious dominion flood attacks are so rare, it is easy for people to underestimate their potential ferocity. It is not that abnormal to think that dominion is mostly just some minor bonus or malus.

DonCorazon
December 26th, 2008, 02:32 PM
yeah, i fit into the bucket you described although i have been focusing on dominion more in other games but mostly b/c i have been playing more often with awake pretenders where those extra white candles are key. but it still surprises me you could domkill a huge nation - god knows i had trouble trying to domkill QM down to just a few provinces in artifacts and I had blood sacrificing vans. interesting to see it work on a grander scale - would be nice to see more games end with large domkills to avoid the late game fatigue and since it is somewhat thematic.

Executor
December 26th, 2008, 04:13 PM
Wow, I staled the last turn (don't have much time due to New Year and school, yes a kid I am compared to most dom players) but I never saw anyones dominion grow this fast. Didn't hink it was possible really, I never used dom kill properly even with Mictlan.
Interesting, never been dom killed before, although I did take only 4 dominion, I really dislike Niefelheim, really, really.
I'm fine either way, just wanna see this game over. And yeah you're right Arch, if I had seen my dom cut in half sooner I'd probably ignore the NAP, as would have done with AN,AC,Burden of time and similar situations.

archaeolept
December 26th, 2008, 04:38 PM
well, I don't think putting up AC would count as reason to vitiate the NAP, given that you payed for most of it ;p

December 26th, 2008, 04:45 PM

PsiSoldier
December 27th, 2008, 12:59 PM

Ahh so he turned your idea against you then. Good move Arch. Ya bastard... :D

archaeolept
December 27th, 2008, 02:32 PM
i'm not sure what you could do w/ it down... the brute fact is that you need a ton of _something_ in order to counter all the candles. I think I'd have been dumping all of your vast pearl income into juggernauts, and that's not too affected by AC as the casters can all be casting returning.

but even with juggernauts, the wave was just too far advanced - and I'm generally adding 5-7 more temple checks a turn.

Raiding can lower my bloodhunting, but not sufficiently. I'm about to start using all my Gem store (1300 or so) to convert to astrals in order to wish for more Blood... so that'll be a steady 200 blood every 2 turns income.

I'd never take a 4 starting dominion either; I'm guessing neither will Executor from now on. :p Some builds I can live w/ a 6, but that's the absolute minimum for me (except some Mictlan strats).

Executor
December 27th, 2008, 03:21 PM
I usually take a high dominion, 8 or 9 since I tend to go with the oracle a lot, other that that I take a dom3 SC pretender which will need awe of course so that's 9 dominion again. Only with Mictlan I take 7 and that's usually the lowest I go.

I really don't know why people think Niefelheim is an overpowered nation?

archaeolept
December 27th, 2008, 03:38 PM
ah, because it can rush almost anyone, and most nations won't be able to do squat. So they come out of the early game in a very strong postion.

Executor
December 27th, 2008, 03:56 PM
Well I don't know, so far I faced Niefelheim 3 times and I beat him all 3 times with little problems.
