I just tryed to do a battle, but it seems SPMBT doesn't have Georgia. In a future update, getting Georgia added would be really nice.

I'm starting a Soviet, er......Russian vs U.S. Marines PBEM now.
The real action won't start until the USA decides to do something about stuffing the Bear back in it's cage. I set the date for September '08, although thee is little chance of it happening until after the new Administration takes over. Lots of snow in those Mountains and spring comes late so May-June would be the soonest it would happen, in the unlikely event it does.

I've attached a map of Tskhinvali for anyone interested in doing a scenario for the battle. The map scale is 1: 100 000 (one square = 2,000 metres).
I understand that the Georgians attacked the town from the South and from across the river in the Southwest and West. The Russians came down the main road from the North.
I've also attached a satellite photo.

That is a scan from paper map or did you ind some online source of these? I had an online source for Russian military 1:50k of the entire israel but the site suffered a HW crash and has not yet recovered.

The scan is from a Soviet map of the region – the 1989 revision of the 1942 original. It may be what the Russians are using now. The map is available online at the link that Double_Deuce posted earlier in this thread.

Just posting these because the idea is too cool not to.
(according to the person who posted them elsewhere they're Georgian)

Hmmm. Why does one guy have his face edited out and the other guy have his arm patch edited out? I suspect that they may not be Georgian at all. They may even come from somewhere much further East.

My bet... Some new variant of airborne Type 63 launcher. Only two rows of 4 tubes instead of normal 3x4, but the rocket fits exactly.

I’m a bit OT here, but I like the cover of the latest issue of Moscow Defense Brief (a Russian defence journal)

The cover of the last issue was good too.

P.S. I’m not trying to make any political point. I just liked the Hollywood puns. :D

Actually, the online version of the latest issue of Moscow Defense Brief has some interesting articles that may be of interest to people developing scenarios or OOBs for the conflict.
It can be found here:

At last … I’ve found a picture to confirm my suspicions about the ‘Georgian’ mystery MRL.
This is a picture of an experimental MRL platoon with the ‘Special (Experimental) Light Mechanized Infantry Regiment’ of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army.

The weapon is a unique eight tube 107mm MRL mounted on a 6x6 ATV.
