At the moment, you have only a short windows of time to edit a post. On most forums thats considered a good thing to avoid moderation problems.

On this forum we have tended to make use of editing so its being discussed (go to the Shrapnel General forum to discuss it) but for the time being there are no edits of old posts.

Apparently on this new system you can only edit posts for a short time after posting them.
I'd suspect the button goes away after that.

This is going to make a lot of the administration stuff much more cumbersome.

Not being able to update the top post of game threads to reflect who's joined/subbed or game status.

No updated comments on mods, etc.

Maybe we can get them to allow thread posters to edit the first post?

Edit: See, right after I posted there was an edit button. Soon I bet it disappears.

We shall see, but things are still in a turbulent phase. Editing opening posts has been discussed. We must wait and see.

Well if we are not able to modify things like Strategy Index, Victorious Nations/Hall of Honor, etc. we lose a lot of usefull things in this board here. I hope this will be changed soon!

edit: at least strategy index is moderated by edi so this shouldn't be a problem. But for the mp gamesfirst post, hall of fame the problem still exists.

Well that is a clear answer, thanks all of you.

This does indeed make it a bit harder to keep threads nicely updated.

Just means we need to have discussion threads for those and then mods doing the actual editing for the relevant threads. Thankfully we have four active mods on the forum now, so it should not be a problem as long as we regularly check things.

I recommend reading the long thread in the Shrapnel General forum. The Shrapnel staff are very much aware of this issue, and hopefully will be finding a good solution. It may take a few days though.

A long thread isn't that attractive to read, your summary of it was nice.

DO they also think about the 97K limit to zip files (read that in the mod forum) since most file used there are much bigger it might be a hit on the modding community.

As has been requested by the staff...
DISCUSSION needs to happen in the Shrapnel General forum if you want Staff to see it.
It doesnt do as much good to discuss it here.

The 97K issue hasn't been mentioned. If you can confirm it it might be useful to mention it there.

If I may make a comment that need not be read by the shrapnel games staff.

I have experience with forums that don't allow for user editing. In my experience, a temporary work around would be to make two posts per new game, a game sign-up post that lists the details of the game and encourages people to join and an actual game thread that lists the players and keeps track of details while the game is running.

Granted this only solves part of the issue, however it will do until a more substantial fix comes around.

Smaller email boxes.
Slower logins
Smaller upfiles.
No editing on posts.
Weird funky icons.

Er, what was the reason this was done. Sure, I like blue and all, and I'm generally curmudgeony about change... but .. where's the upside?
