My personal favorite is Europia, with a limited number of Pretenders. It´s medium sized, not so small as to limit the lenght of your games severely, but not so big as to make every turn last ten or more minutes (as long as you keep a rational number of pretenders on board). As an adittional bonus, the geography roughly mimics Europe's, and the historically-inspired nations (Ctis, Pythium, Ermor, Marignon...) are in their places. So you can rp fantahistory if you like.
Personally I like to add extra starting points. For instance, I give Ryleh a position in the atlantic, and Atlantis in "Kingdom of the Deep". Adittionaly, I gave Machaka another province south of Morocco.

Closely followed by "Realm of the Gods" (sp? the big one. 300, or 500 provinces.) if I am willing to put up with the turn times.

Actually my overall favorite so far is still the Faerun map. It's a bit largish (~400 provinces) but it's just a very very nice map for the most part, and I've had some very enjoyable SP games with Hard/Vhard research on it.

Personally I don't think I'd ever try Europia. I am sure it's a fine map, but after 8523 games of Total War, I'm growing a bit sick of (campaigning on) that particular continent. :(

Medieval I, II, or Rome?

I´ve played Medieval I, and I mean to try either II or Rome, whichever is dirt cheap at the moment, as soon as I buy a computer able to run them

My favorite map was the Faerun map, but now that I've been playing through the Antilarium Map and Mod combo I have a new favorite.

I made a random map and named it after my wife. Other than that one, I like Glory of the Gods, SP edition.

And Shogun.

To be honest, after a lot of thought, the most fun I had with any of them, was Shogun MP. Every time they add features to the combat, they create horrible bugs that never go away.

I am excited but scared for Empires. ;)

But yeah, I've determined that even wargames with a "historical" setting need some kind of map generator. I could play that game for days.....

It's gotta be dawn of dominions. I like the art, I like the scenario, and it's one of the few maps with cave provinces of worth. I finally got around to winning it with every starting position, though I have to admit oceania was dull.

I just wish there was one for MA...

You and me both Carcaroth! Dawn of Dominions is by far my favourite map.

Thanks for reminding me that I need to reupload the Faerun map after I tweak it a little.

Shogun was an amazing game-They really ought to do an Indian/Asian expansion onto Midieval 2.
