View Full Version : Cursed!!

I keep getting my Prophet cursed every game.

I have only 1 magic unit and have tried to get him to remove it but he has no order for it.

Is there a certain Mage/Priest that removes curses kind of like the Arco Priestess that can remove afflictions?

I looked in the manual for a spell to remove curses but had no luck...If I am somehow missing that part could someone point me in the right direction...

I am of the opinion that the curse does not ever go away on its own so its important {especially in MP).

Thanks!!!!

I'm pretty sure that curses are uncurable. They really aren't that big a deal though, I wouldn't worry about it.

if you're being cursed, most likely you are attacking lizard provinces. avoid them, and you can somewhat prevent them. Curses can never be removed.

As mentioned, Cursed is a condition that cannot be removed.

That being said, it only increases the change to get afflictions. Regeneration lessens the chance of afflictions, and not being damaged by wearing armor, being Lucky, or being Ethereal or having some other resistance helps.

Also, just healing afflictions you get is a solution. The Gift of Health, the Chalice, and Healer units do this.

You should also know that getting cursed is virtually a guarantee for any long-lived character who goes into battle and quite likely even for those that don't.

Curses cannot be removed, but dont panic, they just increase affliction chance. Get gift of health and decent regeneration, and they will go.

If you get horror marked, which ain´t removable either, it´s panic time, through...

yeah horror mark is a killer, unless you're playing R'lyeh and it's on your void summoned vastness, happened to me on single player and i had a party, Mr vastness kept on enslaving attacking horrors.

What's so bad about being horror-marked, if you have a strong leader though? I had my Prophet repeatedly kill every horror sent his way, as well as a Hunter of Heroes. Doesn't it depend on the strength of the unit horror-marked?

Also does Nethgul give you a horror mark that's somehow undocumented? It may be a coincidence, but I've gotten horror-marked every time I've forged one. Luckily, Nethgul deals with horrors well :)

Oh no, now that you said that, I will start to have my old nightmares about the maker of ruins again :hurt:

Nethgul does horror-mark. Hey, if you're imitating the Mi-Go and carrying a brain in a jar...

Hmmm, would you say then it's not worth it? Nethgul is a powerful item though...

he's talking about the doom horrors which will kill almost anything that they fight with in about two turns

Doom Horrors aren't scarier than Hunter of Heroes, are they?

The unique ones are, in fact, ludicrously more powerful than the HoH.

Hmmm, really?

So would you recommend not forging any items that can horror-mark you (e.g. Nethgul), and suiciding horror-marked units (even if it is a powerful unit like a Seraph or a mega-empowered prophet)?

Well, you do have to be careful. It's not necessarily wise to have your pretenders or other commanders you really want to want to preserve get horror-marked, for instance, since horror marks stick around even after Call God (or immortality or Ritual of Rebirth, for others).

And yes, the top tier is pretty nasty...

you know, one of those ate my Moloch pretender while playing Abyssia. I committed the mistake of trying to cast Eternal Pyre while under the effects of (my own) astral corruption...

If I was to add one thing it would be this: Doom horrors live up to their name.

Ok, then what do I do with horror-marked SCs? They are too valuable to suicide. For instance I have a Niefel Jarl with "Unequaled Obesity," and awesome equipment--including the Gorgon shield. Shouldn't he be able to handle most things coming his way?

Edi

The gorgon shield can help him if it gets through the MR 20 of the doom horrors, but just load up the Dom3 DB and take a look at the following guys:

Hunter of Heroes
Maker of Ruins
Eater of Gods (no kidding, especially the two latter forms with true ethereal)
Eater of Dreams
Abomination of Desolation

The Maker of Ruins and the Abomination of Desolation are pretty damned nasty and the other guys aren't exactly what you want to invite for a picnic either. Normal horrors are cute little fluffy-bunnies compared to these fellows.

But how often will my horror-marked Niefel Jarl SC meet those guys? He's already whopped Rarku, the Hunter of Heroes.

So what ought I to do with horror-marked units as a general advice? Do I suicide all but the most powerful SCs?

I don't see the point in suiciding them, since death that way isn't guaranteed to be any nicer than death by horror if you're already highly horror-marked. You just need to make sure that they either can cope, or that your plans won't be hampered too much if they find out that they can't. Coping requires high magic resistance to avoid the instant-death attacks, at a very minimum.

Don't forget the Slave to Unreason, either. Interesting fellow, Kurgi.

I thought someone said horror marks spread to other units? How do you generally avoid getting horror marked anyways?

Horror marks don't spread. Some specific units can spread diseases to other units, but they have a special icon that tell you that. If you have sites in a province that horrormark units, then you can get random horrormarks.

There's also 'Horror Seed', a nasty ritual which causes the victim to be a contagious horror-marker, essentially. And the victims sprout lesser horrors if and when they die in battle, if memory serves. I don't recall if anybody's tested the frequency of horror-marking.

But generally speaking, unless you're sitting around in the Vale of Infinite Horror, carrying horror-marking equipment, facing astral mages who use Horror Mark or Astral Geyser, get hit by a horror sent by somebody else (horrors tend to have Astral Hooks which horror-mark you; also, non-blood forging or rituals during Astral Corruption), or cast spells which horror-mark the caster (Hell Power comes to mind)... they're not spontaneous.

Don't sit in the Vale wielding Magebane, a Robe of the Archmage, the Boots of the Planes, the Forbidden Light and the Gift of Kurgi unless you enjoy making very otherworldly and violent acquaintances.

What are all these items and places? Can I read the game content in some library, Dominionapedia?

There's a Dominions 3 Strategy Wiki but it's very barebones. Basic mechanics of the game and item descriptions etc are in the manual. There are also other reference documents available on the forums, such as the Dom3 DB. No descriptive text in that, just hard data. Otherwise scour the forums. Lots of discussions about many of these things.
