I noticed that if you take Drain -1 it is research -1 IF you take Drain 2 it seems that nothing additional happens. SOOOO if I take drain 1 then I should go ahead and take drain 2 right?
ALSO if I have to make a choice between misforturne3 and Drain 2 is it better to have Misforturne 2 and drain 2 or Misfortune 3 and drain 1?
I need the points for a dual bless but I also need money so taking Cold ect is counter productive LOL I think)
Thanks:doh:

99% of the time if you take Drain 1 you should take Drain 2. The choice between drain and misfortune depends on your nation. Generally Misfortune 3 is a bit rough, Drain 2 Misfortune 2 can work for some nations.

Heat 1 is generally free paoints if your nation does not have a temp preference. If you take a neutral setting, your provinces fluctuate with the seasons. So, 6 month a year you will have either heat or cold in your dominion. (give or take). If you take heat 1, the winter months will be neutral, somewhat offsetting the summers.

So its half free then, yeah?
With default settings half the year is at 1 penalty, the other half no penalty. Average 0.5 temperature penalty
Say I take Cold 1. Half the year it remains cold 1. One quarter its Cold 2, the Other its neutral. 0.5*1 + 0.25*2 + 0.25*0 = average 1 penalty

It's a good idea to consider your troops, also. If you have cold-blooded troops, for instance, heat is preferrable, no matter what the nation likes, overall. If they get bonuses for fighting in cold weather though (ice armour) then cold scales are good, no matter the other considerations. Usually these will pair up-cold blooded races usually prefer heat, for instance, but you should still be aware of it.
I'll sometimes take Heat 3 with a cold blooded nation that might prefer Heat 1, because not only does it offset the cold bloodedness, it also works as an offensive Dominion against nations like Niefelheim or Caelum.
