What's the best forger to wish for? Is it MA Ulm's Forge Master? I know there are heros with a bonus, but can I really wish for heros from another faction?

Maybe Forge lord?

A Forge Lord, though quite sturdy and in no danger of dying easily, wouldn't be as useful. When you wish for a pretender chassis you only get their starting magic paths. In this case it would be 1 Earth and 1 Fire. The Forge Master of Ulm is better since it has 2 Earth, 1 Fire, a rare random, and the same forge bonus.

It's probably the mason hero (if you can wish for those). From Edi's database here are the paths you would get for the ones with a 25% forge bonus:
Forge Lord FE
Ice Crafter W
Iron Crafter E
Mason of the Underworld FE2WD3H
Master Smith FE2 +10%(FAES)
Priest Smith FE2H
Warrior Smith E +100%(FAWE) +50%(FAWE)
This one also seems good, but it's only a 10% forge bonus. I've never heard of that unit, so I guess it's another hero?

Mason of the Underworld it is, at least so far. The debug mod has proven that you can indeed wish for a hero unit. Not only that but I've managed to wish for multiple masons and GoR them. I just wouldn't wish for one at the end of the year due to the age thing.
Edit: Thanks

A second pair of arms is also useful for a forger -- there are actually two 50%-bonus 2hd hammers.

Lugh the Long handed is a hero of Tir na nÓg, perhaps the best hero in this game. He has a great deal of magic (3F3A2N3H), Awe+4, 100% fire resist, glamour, fire shield, a siege bonus, a forge bonus, sailing, and sacred. And he has a special ability which gives him +1 in all magic paths, if you empowered him to D1, you'll find that he get D2 by himself.

Hammer of the Cyclops.

I just run a test. No matter what forge bonus you have, you must pay at least 1 gem per magic level required to forge the item(that is, 1 gem for every 5 gems the item originally cost). So even if you were a Nataraja with the Hammer of the Cyclops and the Hammer of the Forge Lord , you were still paying out 8 Astral Pearls to make a Ring of Sorcery.

I think I could live with paying 8 astral pearls for a ring of sorcery...

You can forge for free, but only items that cost 5 gems. You need a forge and a forger that has more that 50 forge bonus - so a forge lord or ulmish smith with the hammer of the forge lord for example.

The talmai elder of Ashdod has 15 forge bonus and is quite sturdy. Talmai, third son of Anak, likewise. He is probably more skilled than most other smiths.

Third Son of Anak, monster number 2049
He is indeed skilled in magic. 1 earth, 1 Fire, 4 Astral, and Holy 2. However, he seems to be lacking his forge bonus. The only thing he has 15 of is fortune telling. I suppose this will be fixed in the next patch?
As for the Talmai Elders, I don't like their randomness. The use of a wish spell should be a very controlled set of circumstances. Their hardiness is a nice bonus though.
Thanks.

Should probably be placed in the bug shortlist then. Unless edi reads this post you might remind us in the bug thread.

Can you summon that cyclops with his hammer?
llamabeast

I think he would turn up without it. Cyclopses are forgetful when rushed.

Hammer of the Cyclops.
I just booted up a later game where I have a forger empowered in all paths up to and beyond six. Hammer of the Forge Lord he is using. Hammer of the Cyclops is not to be seen on any forgable listing. Is the Hammer of the Cyclops something forgable or maybe just wishable?
Hmm... Maybe if I'd noticed that I'd not read page two of this thread before posting, I might have clued into the notion that maybe the Hammer of the Cyclops is something that comes with the 'Cyclops' when you summon it.

I'm pretty sure you need to wish for the item itself if you really want it.

Hammer of the Cyclops is a non-forgeable artifact. It appears in a special province with special defenders who you need to defeat and then find the thing after the battle. Or wish for.

Yep, wishing works. I never knew about this hammer. Two mega hammers for forging goodness. :-)

What has 4 hands to wield both of the good forging tools?
Psycho

Some pretenders like Deva, Nataraja, Destroyer of worlds and some Bandar summons like sidha and devata (rudra also has 4 hands but doesn't benefit from hammers).
