First off, thanks to PanzerBob and DRG (who is local to me) for their help in my pre-purchase thread.

Got the CD by mail and I'm loving it. Mostly tinkering so far but I've come across a simple thing I can' seem to figure out despite reading the manual. I seem to be able to get to the bombardment screen, select an artillery unit to fire and a target hex. It says 1.0 (turns) but the artillery never fires.

Is that number simply a "ready" number and do you have to click on each artillery unit and "F"ire? Or is is automatic?

Thanks.

1.0 turn's mean you have to wait one turn before it will fire

Sorry, I meant to add I waited more than one turn for the artillery. It was three turns later when I realized that without artillery to soften things up that I thought I'd planned, my flank attack got bogged down fast. No artillery after three turns. I'm sure I've not done something right. Will poke around a bit tonight as well.

make sure that the weapon's on the arty are turned on otherwise it will not fire, also make sure they are not supressed.

Could you provide more detail?

Which units you using to call fire?

Country, date, type of arty?

Exactly what routine are you using to plot fire?

Bob out

In situations like this it's simpler to just zip up the save game files for that battle ( make sure you include both the CMT and the DAT files ) and post them to the forum then others can take a peak at them.

OK, will do in the future. I did get them to fire. They're the three German mortar units in the tutorial.

I wound up simply firing them at the pre-setup target points since in two of the cases that's where the Russians were, or were heading. Seemed effective.

Still trying to work through the intricacies of interface, how things work, etc in the game, and also why I keep getting my rear end handed to me on a plate (although the later, I suspect, has something to do with my poor tactics). :) Not using smoke and cover effectively.

Thanks for the help. I'll try some more practice games to get the hang of it.

Good day, DaveyJJ

I've playing this game for years, and I still get my *** handed to me. LOL It's part of warfare and part of the learning curve I always learn more from battles lost than those won. Still it's all great fun.:D
