This thread is to create a one-stop location for finding servers which host Dominions 3 games. If you want to run a game then you can run it on your own machine, or these servers might be able to run it for you. There is a thread which has suggestions on how to best start and run a game even if it is being hosted on someone elses server which you can read here...
How to Run a Game (http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showthread.php?t=39629)
======================================

LlamaBeasts Server: LlamaServer.net
This is a PbEM server (Play by EMail) which has a "Create Game" link making it very easy for people to create their own online game for multiplayers.

LlamaServer.net (http://LlamaServer.net)
The Frequently Asked Questions file for the site can be found here.. LlamaServer FAQ (http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showthread.php?t=35160)
======================================

Gandalf's Server: Dom3Minions.com
This is a TCP/IP server (direct connect) which mass-creates many games and leaves them available for signup. Special games can be hosted on request.
Check for open games here..
Dom3 Demo Games (http://game.dom3minions.com/bin/demo_chk.cgi)
Blitz Games (http://game.dom3minions.com/bin/blitz_chk.cgi)
CBM mod Games (http://game.dom3minions.com/bin/cbm_chk.cgi)
Players vs AI Games (http://game.dom3minions.com/bin/vsAI_chk.cgi)
Chaos Games (http://game.dom3minions.com/bin/Chaos_chk.cgi)
<a href="http://game.dom3minions.com/bin/srand_chk.cgi">SemiRandom Games</a>
Mid-Sized Games (http://game.dom3minions.com/bin/mids_chk.cgi)

IRC (Internet Relay Chat)
There is also a Dominions chat room on GameSurge.net
Server: irc.gamesurge.net
channel: #dominions
port: 6667

You can go there and request a game. Setting one up is very fast, and the game play can go very fast. Its a great alternative to games which process only once a day. Diplomacy is also instant using the chat rooms. Or you can always just go to the Dominions room and ask questions in order to get a few very fast answers.

Here is a discussion including some tips in its use...
IRC Channel (http://forum.shrapnelgames.com//showthread.php?p=457113)

Here is an excellent effort at coming up with Rules of Conduct for multiplayer games.

People starting a game might want to refer to this and say "these shall apply".

This looks extremely helpful Gandalf. Are you going to sticky it?

Sure. Feel free edit any portion of it.

Great. I replicated some details of your server into my new "How to organise a game" thread. So the two have some overlap, but I think that's fine.

Matryx' site is only open to the SomethingAwful forums crowd, not to the public. To save him the trouble of explaining that to everybody who tries to register, I'd remove his site from the list unless being an SA member or VIP ;) is no longer mandatory to sign up.

Sorry if this is a very noob question but i was wanting to play with a friend against the computer AIs. Is there a way we can directly connect to each other to set up a game like this? We want to play real time and not have to wait any certain amount of time between turns.

Anyones copy of Dominions 3 is capable of running in "host mode". You can run one copy in host mode, one copy playing the game, then have your friend connect to your machine and join in the play.

Or you can join with just the two of you into an open game that has AIs. You could start such a game for just the two of you on Llamas server if you wish to play using email to send in your turns.

If you would rather have a quicker, more like solo play, game then you could join one on the Dom3Minions server. There are 3 game types there with AIs. The vsAI, Srand, and Chaos.

I would recommend starting with the vsAI games. You can both join, then hit the "start game" button to kick it off without waiting for other people to join.

Read the "How to Join" link. It has tips such as.. you must use the game tools to create your god before joining. Its not like solo play where you start the game and then create your god. But once you figure out how to join a networked game like this it plays pretty much like a solo game.

I started one game with 3 AI alied enemy and one other human. But we dont know what is winning condition. Possible to end game as team when we kill last AI ? Its the best option to me.

Here is a post on another forum which talks about using DropBox and file syncing to play a "lan" game with people who are not on your house network.
