Hello.

I'm looking to start a game for players who don't feel up to playing a no holds barred veteran game. Maybe you've never played before, or you've played a few games but are still uncertain as to exactly what was going on.

In the interest of full disclosure, this will be the second game I've administrated and the third I've played in, I had to drop my previous games when home improvment projects got over enthusiastic, but both games are still running, so dont worry about games disappearing (Also I see nothing in the next year which could possibley shoe horn me out of my basement and away from Dom3)

Sounds fun - good to see you again RadioGibbon - and thanks for running this!

Love to try my hand at EA C'tis! I think this'll be my 4th or 5th game for the record so I still don't have much of a clue.

PS: I was in one of RadioGibbon's earlier games and it ran great (unlike my strategy unfortunately... :( )

OK, as coreyh2 has kindly pointed out thats 12, which is enough for this map.

Sorry Boronx and Tifone, of your eager to get involved in a game the best reccomendation I can give you is to start your own games up. Its pretty straightforward, and as you've seen, they fill up quickly.

I think he was rather glad that it fled when it did since at that moment it had 12 hp left and was just about to receive a new volley of composite bow fire (the last one did about 20 damage). My starting army fared better against it than I thought it would.

A little announcement from the priestesses, old dudes and weirdo mystics of Arcoscephale.

Due to the unsolicited, unjustified and unannounced aggression from our Abysian neighbours, a state of war between our two peoples is now in effect.

Also, because of the aforementioned facts, the only way this war will come to an end is when the entire nation of Abysia is wiped off the face of the known world.

That is all. Thank you for your attention.
Peace out.

Sorry to make the priestesses cry, but it was your poor luck to be the last neighbor that I met after I have signed an NAP3 with everyone else. We don't have any form a treaty and we never will.

unsolicited, unjustified and unannounced? I'm really sorry that I didn't ask you if you wanted me to attack, and I'm also sorry that I didn't announce the obvious, and I should have cooked up some reason to attack you other than doubling my gem income and gobbling up an easy target. :)

Speaking of easy targets: the Burning Empire would like to announce that the formal partition of Arcoscephale has begun. Any of Arcoscephale's neighbors who like gems should consider attacking now while the time is ripe.

Wow.

Gotta admit, I'm not used to my opponents making my points for me.

Then again, I'm new to this whole MP thing, so..

Aaanyway, I've barely bothered to search for magic sites, and I have a tendency to over-PD my provinces.

On the other hand, Abysia has some nice 5-10 -PD lands all over the place.

How do I know?

/points to his priestesses

Oh, and easy targets? This war will cost you more than it costs me.

Peace out.

Deadnature
October 10th, 2008, 10:54 PM
Actually, most of my lands have like one point PD, but don't worry I have NAP3s with all of my neighbors...except you of course.

I think you missed my point though, we had no diplomatic contact at all, so you should have assumed I would attack you, instead of letting it happen and crying fowl.

In terms of price? This war has already payed off nicely, that one province I took from you netted me 7 gems per turn from several different paths. I think you have indeed been site-searching.

I'm new to mp too, having only finished one game so far but I know a juicy target when I see one.

No hard feelings though, I'm playing another game where the same thing happened to me: I had a huge gem income but not that many provinces. So what happened? I got rushed by my neighbors. :)

The council of Basalt Kings & Queens decided that the ancient Atlantian Civilization shall war with treacherous Nation of Ulm, who invaded atlantian territory and slaughtered the local defences ruthlessly. That was an act they'll come to regret, and soon. The war will end when forges of ulm are razed and their "pretending" god is banished from the realms.

The battles of Wickwood: As our army approached the capitol of Calem we noticed that the poor inhabitants were under siege of Troglodytes. We watched two Eagle Kings get tenderized before these foul beasts. When we dispersed these beasts did the people rejoice? No the rude buggers shut their castle gates. Imagine that, how rude. For this affront we declare the need for a change of administration. We will not rest till this is accomplished.:D

Uh, oh, please look in the main Dom forum. I Lost? Is the post. Iron Duke the poster. Does your problem match? I had a weird battle as well. But I ascribed it to just bad luck. Now I'm worried. If it does match then its time to post the darn thing as a bug. We also might consider a roll back. And see if it repeats. You should save the turn file for further analysis. In fact I'm going to back up all turns from now on.:D

Iron Duke
October 18th, 2008, 06:05 AM
Well twice now I had to suck it up that my win didn't show on battle reports and I already lost the backbone of my army, coral guards due to the bug. I'll go AI if this keeps up. Needless to say I'm quite pissed.

Tifone
October 18th, 2008, 06:23 AM
AFAIK the bug doesn't "change" the battle results Iron Duke... just shows the battle happening in an incorrect way. Annoying but it shouldn't be ground breaking. Nevertheless, I suggest you to tell llama about those turns - twice in a row seems very weird.

Iron Duke
October 18th, 2008, 06:34 AM
Most likely not true. I watch my 8 mages with evo-5 powerup beat the snot out of enemy's antlered shamans and pd, coral guards standing against enemy iron warriors and not flinching, yet in the end I got 1 surviving coral guard who retreated back. I got everything on my favor yet still I lose. There's something definately wrong with this.

Should we roll the turn back? Its been done before. I want a vote please. I would like everyone to backup their trn file if we do so. I'm gonna save my turns from now on anyway. Hmm maybe we should organize a Vista friendly server to solve this problem in future games. :D

RadioGibbon

Hi Guys.

After reading the thread describing the bug I don't think a roll back is the correct course of action.

It's worth noting that the defeat isn't exactly unfair. It's just that the battle could have worked out differently, depending on chance. In the version you saw, you won. In the version the server ran, you lost. But your troops did get to fight fairly nonetheless, it's just that unfortunately you don't get to see the battle they fought and so you can't see what went wrong.

Whilst I sympathise with Iron Duke not being able to see what went wrong this paragraph makes it quite clear that Ulm won two perfectly fair victories and so to undo Ulm's victories would be unfair on him.

So, I've found a competitor. After letting you keep those provinces. Thats what I get for being nice. Well here's you eviction notice. I'm gonna remove you from the land provinces on my little island. That should repay the loss from the Abysians. Also I demand back rent for those provinces. Say 20 gold per provence, per turn. Lets see three provences for lets say 20 turns. Thats 600 gold I want from you.

I'm in the market for items that allow underwater travel. I will pay a good price for them. Also I will consider it a favor. I always reward those who are nice to me. But those who betray me will suffer the fate of Calem. Plucked.

Interesting, I can imagine that changes balance often considering how long games last. Its hard to predict mid game nerfs. I guess I wouldn't do it that way if it was me but I can't imagine people would want to keep multiple copies of the game on their hard drive for different games either.

The Marverni council of Druids has denied any links between a sudden spate of bushfires ravaging the entire eastern half of the Marvernis' lands and their neighbour Abysia. A senior Druid is reported as saying,

"Whilst their may have been some skirmishes between our forces and the burning men of the fire lands necessitating a few minor tactical withdrawals their is absolutely no need for concern. Reports that our entire army marched into a blazing inferno and didn't come out are completly false and we can catagorically deny any claims by Abysia to have slain The Thunderbird who is alive and well in the capital planning our decisive counterattack."

Reporters were unable to ask questions as the press conference came to an unscheduled end as fireballs descended from on high and incinerated the meeting circle and all within it.

Breaking News: The Council of Druids had denied any link between the burning of the meeting circle and Abysia, a senior Druid holding an umbrella and staring upwards is quoted as saying,

"Fireballs from the sky are a perfectly natural occurence and just something our citizens should learn to live with."

In other news: protests broke out today in front of Smouldercone as angry burning ones demanded satisfaction for the continued government use of fire-gems in a war against Maverni that is now being described as a "peacekeeping operation." "Fire-gems for fire-people" was the slogan chanted as angry protesters demanded more domestic use of the precious resource.

We may have a bug issue. The battle with the Cyclops should have had him blinded. My Baal had an Eye shield. I'm sending my turn in for testing. I request a hold till this is explained.

I just figured it was luck, to be honest.

I mean, said Cyclops does regenerate 20 hp per turn. Plus he's lucky.

Edit: Also, the eye shield description does say "anyone who hits the eye shield," so maybe my lad just spent all that time beating on the big dude holding the shield instead of the shield itself. :)

Looking in the Manual has Eye Shield special properties as "May Lose an Eye."

As the Manual is generally clearer and doesn't include Fluff like in game descriptions, and given Caerun has hinted that he has some sort of luck enhancer on his Cyclops, its more than likely just the roll of the dice.

I also have a sneaking feeling that it might be possible that Regeneration cures afflictions? Although I'm not sure that this happens during battles.

Okay, Although I don't know why the Baal charged into combat. Battles are supposed to end at the 50th turn and the bolo says it has 50 rounds of ammo. He was not hasted, quickened, in any manner. I'm so confused. Anyway game on. I'm having a terrible day today, you know one of those where everything breaks, malfunctions, spontaneously combusts, ect... I'm gonna :hide: for the rest of the day. Hopefully tomorrow will be better. :D

Regeneration does not cure afflictions, it reduces the chance to get them though. And I think high MR units can resist the shield effect most of the time. Combine that with lucky (½ chance for anything bad to hit, not sure if it applies to this though) and regeneration - well, not much use for an eye shield against that.

Hinnom set to AI. Hope everything works out OK Bwaha.

On a related note thats two in the last two turns have gone AI, and their both above me in the score tables. Maybe I should take the hint :(.

The hint would be "start killing people other than your own," in case you're thinking of a different one.

Just look at me for an example. :) From my tiny corner of the world I'm now well on my way to eating up a nice chunk of Hinnom, thanks to Bwaha's real life misfortunes.

This game is going more and more to Sauromatias favor... Has anyone seen tartarians yet?

Thanks to the heartless deans of my university, I'm gonna have 7 finals in 8 days, so I'm retiring from all my games, setting myself to AI. I'm really sorry people :(

Wow, Maverni, I must tip my hat to you for bringing what you did to the table at that epic battle. I know I'm a noob, but I have yet to see such a large battle involving so many conventional units in a game of DOM3. I think it wasn't your tactics that let you down...just your choice of enemy :)

Thanks Deadnature, it's been a positive pleasure to be burnt to the ground by you, but I think you being overly polite about my tactics.

In hindsight I'd divide them into 3 phases:

My Invasion: Completly Retarded - My druids were lavishly kitted out to be invulnerable to missile fire whilst my army had no protection against fire. Against Abysia, who has no archers and a lot of fire.

The Suicide Earthquakes: Retarded but necessary - An attempt to
wipe out your mages at the cost of all of mine, I think I got about half of them? Whilst your army did stop for the time it took me to build that enormous horde you just wiped out I dont know if this was to bring up fresh mages or just general consolidation.

Last Stand: Fine in Conception, Retarded in execution - The absolute key to this fight was slapping a soul matrix(?) on the Thunderbird so he could join the communion and cast Warriors of Musphelheim in the second turn. I thought the communion was large enough to make this possible but considering the damn pretentious Heron cast Fire Fend instead I guess its back to the Communions guide. My friend Hindsight watched the battle and was like,

"Why not just have all those Druids off teleport raiding here, have a massive communion because you knew it was dodgy, and once the Communion has started have a garanteed Warriors of Musphelheim before laying down an absolutely massive Gifts of Heaven barrage? You could have had a dozen druids spamming that stuff?" Needless to say I slapped him and booted him out the door.

As for your Abysians, who I'm informed played a small part in my downfall, the amount of firepower (pun intended) you brought to bear was pretty amazing, and would have been great fun to watch if it hadn't been aimed at me. Now if you'll excuse me I have to go barricade some doors.

tl : dr version - Waahhhh! Waahhhh! I lost and its not fair!

Attention readers: I've got 2 or 3 turns left maximum, obviously I'll admin as long as it's needed, even after I've been wiped out, but if anyone wants to volunteer to take over it would be appreciated.

Volunteer in this thread or PM me and I'll send you the pass word.

Tempting as it was to continue with my single watery province and enact a B movie style 'Revenge of the Fishmen' I decided to switch to AI.

Good game everyone, and all the best in your future efforts to burn things down Deadnature (They've certainly been vey effective so far!).

I'll keep checking this thread until the game gets a new admin (Hint Hint).

Ok, the final war with Sauromatia is on! Anyone who wants to help Abysia in this struggle is welcome!

Allright, llamaserver shows as Abysia gone to AI, should we just declare sauromatia winner and be done with it? I've been missing some of my turns and to be honest, my dominion was my doom ages ago. I do think I could stand a chance but actually without much going on, many players going AI and Sauromatia having most elemental royalty and tartarians, it'd be a rollover unless I could somehow come up with a counter to everything he's throwing at me (I know, petrify is a good bet). But I haven't enjoyed this game in ages. What do you two say?

Isokron

I suppose i could accept myself as victor and I guess arco might agree after last turn. He lost about 400 units including his SC pretender and 3 fully equipped golems.

I guess the main problem with the game was that you (Agartha) didn't attack me earlier while I was distracted elsewhere. As late as when Abysia attacked me might have worked well.

I know, I've been standing passively by while people just've been going AI. I did try to get people to work against you at one point, but people were more or less "Well let me finish this war first, shouldn't take more than 20 turns or so". With better scales I could've probably made a big difference more early... But you've had mothe oak and well of misery up for a many many many turns. And to be honest, I don't have much use for maelstrom. And the other globals, except for earth well those others are there just to eat up slots.

Caerun
January 26th, 2009, 06:42 PM
Hey, those losses were all part of the great plan.

Seriously.

Oh, and Cae is used to the dying, he's done it before. 's no biggie.

Plus I've still got stuff to throw at the war here. Like, y'know, the kitchen sink. Not that it'll help of course. From what I've seen, I'd guess Sauromatia has some anti-anti-anti-kitchen sink tools in a back pocket somewhere..

But yeah, I don't mind conceding it, it's a simple case of numbers at this point for me. I mean, I've never even had more than 3 castles this whole game, and the third of those I only set up after Hinnom fell. I could keep fighting for a few more turns I suppose, doing all kinds of nasty little things but it apparently wouldn't make much of a difference in the big picture. Gotta admit I've been rather passive over the past month and a half or so, as well.

Would that mean that the tiny un-noticed corner of the world known as Arcoscephale finishes third, though?

Quitti
January 26th, 2009, 11:23 PM
Probably yes, by just persisting. We should set this game finished then.

1. Sauromatia
2. Agartha
3. Arcoscephale

I guess. But in the end only the first place matters, congratulations :)

Now, whoever has the admin controls...?

RadioGibbon

Congratulations Isokron.
