For non-sacred units, it's: (recruit cost) / 15.

For sacred units it's: (recruit cost) / 30

It's zero for most summoned units, however there are some exceptions. Mostly it only applies to ones that are recruitable for another version of that nation in a different age or from a magic site. Check Edi's unit database to be sure for summons.

Right, there are exceptions. Trolls are not very expensive (80/2 or a couple of Earth/Water gems), but their upkeep is extremely high. Summoned too! So be careful with using large troll armies - with all their bonuses, such army can crush your budget

I heard, that some summoned demons reuires upkeep too. Or it looks like there`s upkeep...Somebody knows?

And if you use the Transformation Ritual (Alt-7) do the transformed unit still have the upkeep of the original one or it becomes a free upkeep unit?

The transformed units use the upkeep value of the new creature. I think it's 0 for all or almost all of them.

Prophets' upkeep is either halved or negated. This can be useful for nations with very expensive commanders in early game, especially for something like Luck-scale Pangaea which might not have that much money readily available.
