Recently switched PCs to one with Vista. Most of my games worked fine after a little tinkering, and Dominions 3 runs fine in and of itself. The issue? Mods. I can't seem to activate them. Up to date patches..so what could be the issue?

We will need a little more information. Are the mods showing up in the game menu? If not, then it is most likely a location issue. Vista loves to be helpful and scatter files to the four winds. In a clean dominions3 install, everything needed to run the game should be in the dominions3 folder. Vista has a habit of spreading the subdirectories around in the "VirtualStore" regardless of where you told the dominions3 installation program to install to.
If the mods are showing up and appear to be activating but you are not seeing the changes in your game, keep in mind that mods must be activated prior to creating a game. You can not activate them in the middle of an existing game.

The former. They refuse to show up in the menu. I've used mods before, plenty of them. So if I moved the file to say, Mydocs or something, it may work? I'll attempt that, and report back. Thanks, however, for the reply.
And it still doesn't work. Suggestions?

Vista is looking for them under a different folder. Either turn off "User Account Control", or put the mod under \users\[your user name]<YOUR user>\App Data\Local\Dominions3\mods\

Alright. I can see and activate the mods now. There is another issue, however. I keep getting crash-errors with them. It can't find some kind of file(seems to be the same one regardless of mod). The only mods I've been trying to play are Banners and Streamers, Mytheology3, Novus-somehting..

Hi, if I may, I'm using the evil and accursed Vista. I use a thumb drive to escape 98% of the evils of Vista. It can't hide the files that way. I just create files on the thumb drive and I know where they are. Heh, just beat their system... And shared it. Heh heh. :D
The point of this is in the email portion of this game. Its much easier to ship the files if you have a easily accessible file,(not hidden) from the email system. :D

Tried Bwaha's solution, but mods continue to simply not-work because of some file that can't be found(it changes depending on the mod).

Yeah. But switching off the User Account Control sh*t is enough. It reverts Vista to the XP file management policy, more or less...
Of course, if you switch that control, you also loose expose yourself to some classical security issues this control was intended to fight. But as long as you're a safe user of your computer (efficient AV, not downloading hacked stuff, X stuff, Real Casino 250.000$ congrats you're the winner stuff, mails from dubious origin & so on), you're not really exposed.

I'd like to thank everyone for their help, but I've fixed the issue and appears to have been due to nothing other than my own ignorance and impatience. Thank you all, truly, though.

If you have a working solution, you should post it here to aid the poor lads and ladies who will have the same problems. :D

Well, atthe risk of eveyrone hating me, I simply forgot to take the Mod files out of their main files. The game doesn't know to open files within files.
