Again I am playing the Germans in a very big and long campiagn. I finnally get to battle the Russians. It is Barbarossa.
Now I'm remembering what I've read on this and thinking, cool I should go through about 20 battles of just smearing the heck out of the Russains building up my experience.
Very first battle I run into T-34's and KV's.....I know they could of possibly appeared on a the battlefield earlier then they did historically, but what the heck? LOL
So resorting to my usual tactic, after I loose 10 or so I just suicide the rest to see what happens. Very first battle I suffer and major defeat, oupps then my game suddenly and very mysteriously shuts off and I had to reload a saved game, hate when that happens.
Isnt there something built into the game that makes them pick the approperaite tanks for the era and location, or am I mistaken?

Soviets had T-34s and KVs available in the summer 1941, when operation Barbarossa started. However, they only formed a small part of the total tank numbers at that point.
And their appearance came as a pretty total surprise to the Germans, who had serious difficulties when facing them in combat. So in that aspect, sounds like you had an encounter that could be described as historically accurate.

Except maybe number and operational readiness ;) Though that is beyond the scope and capabilities of the game.

BTW: the encyclopedia shows when certain unit types become available. It might be good idea to browse through it to see what you can expect a particular enemy to have on a particular year.

The encyclopedia is handy, but a better way to determine what is available to the other side during a battle is to set up a test battle where you can be the other side and set the date. This narrows the list of what's available at the time of the battle. The test battle doesn't have to be fought. It's just used for intelligence purposes providing information that would might be known at the time if we had a G2 or S2 staff. With the encyclopedia, you have to pick through everything available throughout the entire period covered by the game.

Or just set for current date only filtering, if you have the CD version.

Wish I did. That would be a cool bonus, especially if it can be used during a battle.
