View Full Version : An excellent on-line unit database!

I found this fantastic online unit database that seems to list (with photos) every unit in Dominions III. It's a Chinese website but that shouldn't hinder your ability to use it.

I apologize if the site has been linked before:

Hmmm, perhaps I ought to have curbed my enthusiasm somewhat: I realize that a lot of the individual unit links are broken, and hence you cannot always see the unit stats.

Nonetheless, I think some folks (esp. modders) might find the link useful.

It's the chinese Wiki site that I have mentioned a few times in the past already, yes. They started this some time after the Dom3 release in 2006. It's primarily meant as a resource for chinese players that can't speak English, I guess.

Yep. Chinese Wiki was originally constructed by several players in order to help those who like this game but have difficulty understanding English, thus it's basically Chinese. However, there are some contents that both English and Chinese descriptions are available:
magic (a few missing): http://www.letscorp.net/wiki/farm/dominions/Magic/School.html
pretenders (more than half done) : http://www.letscorp.net/wiki/farm/dominions/Dominions/God.html
heroes (almost done, not quite sure): http://www.letscorp.net/wiki/farm/dominions/Category/Hero.html
and the all-units page Epaminondas posted, which is the most under developed area. :D

This is extremely helpful to me-thank you for posting it! And thanks to you too, Ich, I just wish I had noticed it earlier.

Quick bump, because of the usefulness of this database.

Thanks for the follow-up links. It's faster than looking through Edi's database for certain things :)

We have a dominions wiki. But it doesnt get the attention it should. We could all help create a database like this in english.

Or if someone wanted to do something with webpages and links I would gladly host it.

That would be an enormous tool for modders, especially if the original sprites were present in a form that was easily copyable and modifiable. I've been using some of the sprites on there as models, but they're of limited use, as some of them I can't copy onto this computer, and they're extremely distorted, as well.

You are aware of the unit sprites in the modding resources (http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showthread.php?p=634785#post634785) list from the mod list thread, HB, yes? Because that sounds like you're a year and a few patches away from it.

I can't download it, is the thing, Ich. So, sadly, it's useless to me.

It sounds like you really should ask Gandalf for an account on his server to escape all those strange limitations that you have.

It doesn't have anything to do with the server, Ich, it's the computer I'm working from. And actually, I now, as of late last night, have a laptop (extremely slow, old, and clunky) that can actually *play* Dom3 again, yay me! We were able to get one of them working again. Sadly, it's by far the worst of the three I actually own, but it's a heck of a lot better than nothing. So as long as I confine myself to playing against only 1-3 Nations on Silent Seas, with all of the higher graphic functions turned off, and no patches, I can once again actually play the game :) I still can't practically download anything, because the thing's more or less an abacus, only slower, and half-ways broken, and can't really get online, but it works!

On the subject of an updated database...
we do have another project that came a long ways along that line.

I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed, but this database is still being improved upon and added to-if it's someone on these boards, or someone from the original database effort-but whoever's doing that, if you're reading this, thank you!

It makes modding a whole lot easier for me, and it's very useful for looking up stats, so I hope it gets completed. Even though it's in Chinese, having it completed will make an English version so much easier and faster to set up.

Shouldn't this thread be deleted?

Nothing works on it ... nothing. May want to just delete the whole thing.

Dom3Wiki provides unit information and so much more. You're better off using it: http://dom3.servegame.com/wiki/Main_Page

I have to wonder why'd you even bother bringing this old thread up though.
