I've changed your email and resent the turn, just to make sure it's working, Kristoffer. Since the wiki's been set up could people start restricting their writeups to there, please? I'm assuming that your post below the request is for Turn 1, Kristoffer, or is it just a little commentary?
Kristoffer O

It was just a response to me being second in doing my turn. Baalz (IIRC he is Ulm) managed to get his turn in befor I did :)

I blame differing timezones...
Wrana

IIRC, there was an idea that "Secret Pacts" were also written in-character, to be posted later, when their secretness isn't important anymore. While public diplomacy remains public - it's quite advantageous, after all, to have your neighbor know that you already have 2 allies... ;)
I personally am for this.
Lokean
December 20th, 2008, 04:43 PM
I would point out that nations do not commonly hold their negotiations in public, so if you do diplominate in character it would not make sense to post it.
However, most nations do make it very public what the fruits of diplomacy bring, so I would suggest that proclamations of Marignon's alliance with R'lyeh, which will bring the fires of truth to all corners of the world both above and below the waves and last for all time, would be not only appropriate but hilarious when R'lyeh simultaneously sabotages seven of Marignon's military and research centers with remote attack rituals a year later...
Anyway, since the game's now up and running I'm going to use the other thread and sort out the EA game...
Wrana
December 20th, 2008, 06:05 PM
Agree to that. But we can post official communiques on any negotiations - you know, the sort that leaves everyone wondering... ;)

I can't find the official Chroncles_MP thread with all players, link to wiki, etc. in the first post.
This one is edited and says something about the splitting, but no links.
Any hint?

December 25th, 2008, 10:13 AM
OK, pity, I'm visiting my folks and have nothing to do but play dominions and writing stuff :)
I think I'm getting hang of the wiki. I edited my turn page at first, but realized it was not linked to the nation page. So when I made the nation page I got a double post on the turn page. But now everything seems nice and good.
Kristoffer O
December 25th, 2008, 10:43 AM
I have added a decree headline on my wiki in accordance with my previous post on Ulm.
Added: gifts presented to a particular minister will not be taken by the bureaucracy. The stated receiver will get items unless they are deemed harmful, or if the Emperor (or someobne else) finds out and confiscates the item. Such actions will enter the wiki.
Also, feel free to negotiate with individual commanders and mages. The emperor is not allseeing, and not all generals are necessarily true to his cause.
Kristoffer O
December 25th, 2008, 11:19 AM

My decree was not properly organized after all it seemed. When I tried to fix stuff I lost my connection. When I restarted everything was fine and the coding was slightly changed :)

The latest Jotun writeup appear on every turn. A missing noinclude or something?
There is still no ministry of supernatural affairs. It seems likely that supernatural contacts will be accepted once a year, since supernatural beings are less concerned with the passing of time and are in no hurry.
Since winter is the time when the supernatural is the strongest this will likely be the time when the ministry contacts supernatural entities.

Vanslime

I took care of it. For everyone's information, here's the "code" for a turn entry:
<noinclude>
Turn 7
</noinclude>{{#ifeq: {7} |7|
}}
Here's what you'd put up, solmyr:
<noinclude>
Turn 7
}}

The ministry of supernatural affairs is not yet formed. The position as minister is not yet dealt to anyone, so gold and gems might still influence the election.
Unfortunately the Emperor just showed himself for the first time since he was poisoned by Lin Poo. The empire is celebrating, but the appointment of the minister will probably be delayed, as well as all foreign affairs.
In other words, I have a rather busy week and my pretender returned and I have little time to write stuff :)

By decree of the ascending goddess, I am authorized to secure deals trading treasures straight from the great forges of Ulm. Any greater magic item contracted from a master smith at base price in gems, gem type flexible. Dwarven hammers for 15 gems of whatever you've got handy. Other path items available for forgings upon negotiation. Bulk discounts and favored long term trading arrangements available. Payment in fire gems currently qualify for additional discount. Awakening from a long, drunken stupor (perhaps they imbibed a bit much of the sacred beer), the Hoburg have awakened to an epiphany. To accomplish their grand quest to get the rest of the world to settle down, they're going to need to unite the other nations under Hoburg rule. The lands of men in the west beckon to the short ones. The great crusade is about to begin!
Okay that wasn't that great, but Man, there's your warning :)

rdonj
January 28th, 2009, 06:54 PM
This is a bad game to have subs in, it would really be best to avoid them if at all possible. KO at least is still intending to play, and has been sending in his turns. I would rather wait for him. QM has staled two turns in a row, which seems to me a good sign of dropping from the game.
DonCorazon
January 28th, 2009, 07:10 PM
I don't mind waiting - maybe JK can see if he can get an estimate from KO just so we know what to expect (days? weeks?- a "while" means different things to different folks). Plus we would just look for a temporary, not permanent sub. Anyway, I don't mind either way - just need more info / player input.
Wrana
January 28th, 2009, 07:15 PM
Personally, I think that it would be best to wait for KO - particularly as I'm trying to negotiate with his empire right now. :) On the other hand, his storyline allows for temporary sub at least - some discontinuity can be explained by different court clique taking power temporary...

Hi!
My connection is still down. A field technician is reputedly working on the case and he might contact me. However, I suspect he wont work during the weekend, so send my turns to JK. He can sub me for a few days. johan at illwinter.
He likes old people, so I'll put him in charge of the newly formed ministry of supernatural affairs and the tuang-ti da-di guy. Can't remember his name :)
Supernatural affairs seems more prevalent than human relations. He might decide that the winter is the time of supernatural contacts. This will lead to a time calm on his part.

Wrana
February 2nd, 2009, 01:24 PM
With the next one, of course! On the other hand, I surely do not insist that the answer be made in public, even though bribing officials was a time-honored tradition in China (they didn't get state payment for their work as such) and so Emperor would probably be lenient in this respect - especially if it works out good enough for his Empire.. :)

Wrana
February 8th, 2009, 07:20 PM
It also looks like many nation threads don't have editable blanks beyond turn five. Maybe it should be added? (I managed to do this once, but am not sure this is how I should do it). Also, there was a post here some time back, with Hoburgs declaring war on Man - it probably should be copied to wiki...
DonCorazon
February 8th, 2009, 07:49 PM
I added them for my own nation and I am pretty technically challenged. I just looked at the script for turns 1-5 and copied and pasted then changed the turn numbers. Since I already added the turn numbers for R'lyeh up to 19, the easiest way to do it would be to go to the R'lyeh nation page and open the edit screen and copy all the script that looks like

I'm not really working well with the story the original hoburg leader decided on. It's not really the sort of direction I would normally go. And they chose such a strange build. I'm not really too sure what to do with myself. And last turn I learned a very important lessen about the difference in size between man and hoburg :hurt:.

I am hoping so too - they are my neighbors and while I surely do not want to invade them I'd rather they don't suddenly turn AI on me! And that is without taking in consideration KO's excellent stories - which I hope would continue! ;)
And on another topic - could you say how long ago it was that we'd lost Baalz? Ulm seems to be on AI now, but I hadn't checked this for a long time...
DonCorazon
February 13th, 2009, 03:52 PM
I think around ~ turn 19 he lost his pretender and went AI thereafter.
See "The Last Days of Ulm" under R'lyeh for a full accounting of the tragic fall of Mama Gaga... :)
Meanwhile, I have to say it would be nice to get accounts from other nations. With graphs off, its not quite fair to be divulging valuable intel via the chronicles when other nations are not reporting anything. :(

Another question, DonCorazon - what would you say about Ulm tactics? I was interested by Baalz' proposal some time ago but don't know how effective they are actually.
And on another topic - while it is certainly amusing to see Skaven cry treachery, our Foreign Ministry hereby officially declares that though we HAD offered them peace upon our first contact, we had no actual reply to this from them... ;) We have found that further pressing the matter was not in our interest due to geopolitical reasons. Of course, anybody observant can also see that they boasted on their attack on Caelum and then cried about Caelum attack... ;)
DonCorazon
February 15th, 2009, 12:34 PM
I have not heard back from TC - what do players want to do? Look for a sub, postpone for however long it takes to get an update on his situation ( I just added another 48 hours), or....? I hate to postpone to long as then other players start to lose interest / or in my case forget what the heck I was doing. :)
@Wrana: When you say his proposal, I am not sure what you mean? I think Ulm's strategy this game was reliant on a peaceful early game.

The great crusade seems plagued with misfortune. Several quick victories and the raising of a new fort saw the crusade nearly upon the gates of the capitol of men. Then disaster struck. Overconfident from their earlier victories, a large hoburg army was almost completely destroyed by one of Man's armies. That's when all hell broke loose. At almost the same time, a group of marauding knights attacked and took over one of the provinces the crusade had wrested from Man. The Abysians, apparently allied with the humans, suddenly attacked from the east, ruining all attempts to regroup and slaying most of the crusade's human host. Only a few months later, as the crusade sallies to fight back the scourge of abysian aggression yet another band of maurading knights has attacked, and now Hoburgdorf itself is under siege. It is a dark time for the Hoburgs, and the sacred beer is now consumed in such great quantity that the glorious sacred fountain has nearly dried up. If the great crusade cannot turn back the tide of abysian soldiers streaming across the lands quickly, the war will be lost.
But the greatest host the crusade has ever seen has been assembled, and the crusade has won its first battle against abysia's legions. Perhaps in the end the warriors of Hoburgdorf will yet still triumph over adversity, and bring peace to all the peoples of the land.

I'm seeing some problems with wiki - namely, Nekhekara's page is seen only till turn 5, though you can see a story from them at turn 19 (or close to) page. It's possible that other nations' stories can also be unseen.
lch
February 18th, 2009, 03:37 PM
That's not a problem with the Wiki, that's a problem with the editors who still don't know that they're supposed to put their stuff on their nation pages and edit the turn pages directly instead.
lch
February 18th, 2009, 04:21 PM
Nehekhara was the only one that started editing the turn articles. And stopped after turn 19, because then nobody added turn articles anymore... :P I have now created a template for the turn pages so that there's not more than one line and a warning messages NOT to edit this page in them. Somebody from this game please continue to extend the turn pages in the same fashion from turn 19 on, and every time when a new turn has been played and a new turn page would be needed.
As for the nation pages, all one needs to know and understand is that the page is being broken up into section for inclusion on the turn pages. The code to mark the seperators for these sections looks like this:
}}<noinclude>
Turn XYZ
</noinclude>{{#ifeq: {XYZ} |XYZ|
Replace the XYZ in there with the number of the turn that you're describing, it all has to be the same number there, but you don't need to place those seperators for turns that you don't have any text for. You can leave them out for better readability of the nation page and add the required separators when you get to add story for the turn later, maybe.

I have to admit I am getting admin fatigue in this game given the abysmal level of participation. Anyone want to take over?
On a related note, I managed to get an EM from TC after the last couple stales, and didn't seem like he wanted a sub, but now I see a couple more stales and nobody requesting extensions. R'lyeh attacked TC this past turn (my turn was submitted last night). Got back from the doctor's this afternoon and I see turn has hosted and TC staled again. I don't want to attack a staling player but I also don't want to have to change my plans because someone is not playing their turns. I don't care what we do with TC or if we even bother to continue this game.

I think initially the idea was for 48hr per turns, with postings about 1/4 days (more often if author feelas up to it). It would allow to skip some of the turns when nothing really happened to concentrate on more interesting occurrences. Of course, Kristoffer have shown that there is plenty of possibility to fill even less interesting turns with internal matters. But I don't think that could be expected of everyone everytime...
I would also like to see how Machaka story would develop - and I'd add to it a Man story, which also had a promising start. As it is, I like Tien Chi and R'lyeh stories best for now...

Ok, hunt11 asked for a one week break so I am going to add 84 hours. I'll leave it up to players to ask for extensions or tell me when people are staling since it has been a bit of a drag tracking down players and trying to figure out if they are still in the game or want a sub, etc. Also, I repeat my offer to turn over admin duties... :)
It would be nice if players with only one or two entries can use this week's break to give us some updates on the wiki. If someone is not interested in writing anything more, then in the spirit of the game, it would probably be best for that player to look for a sub. There was once a lot of demand and interest in this game so I am guessing we could find some writers...

Tifone, I shall remember this day and one day, when I am not sandwiched between you and QM, I shall take revenge upon you! :D Not that QM actually did much of the damage to me, he just defeated one minor army at a very unfortunate time, as you attacked me immediately afterward....

I never saw the pretender myself, but I'm 90% sure it was a w9/s9 oracle. Personally, I would have been much happier with b9 than s9, then at least I'd have had units who could damage armor.... Would have come in rather handy against abysia, at least. And those rampant knight attacks.

I've just released a new version of the Tomb Kings mod, and copied it to the LlamaServer. Would you all mind downloading the new version from the link in my signature? Otherwise you'll get inconsistencies in the battle reports when fighting the Tomb Kings, as your copy will think they have different stats to what they actually have.
Executor: A few of the changes will have some effect on you. Your Tomb Kings now cost a hefty 500(!) gold, but gained some earth magic. The priests and sacreds are somewhat more expensive too. On the plus side your national holy spells are much more effective (they stick much better). Another major plus is that the Servants of Horus are now greatly improved, and represent a worthwhile thing to spend your fire gems on, particularly if there's any chance of fighting demons. There were quite a few other minor changes - check out the thread for details.
Sorry for the inconvenience everyone.

At one point or another, I have had to find subs for or send messages to urge turn taking from Atlantis (before excellent Jarkko), TC, Hoburg, Marignon (now), and Man. That's 1/3 of the players and I don't think any have ever bothered to post a message - just vanish or start staling. While I think most games have 1-2 players vanish or stale, its pretty unusual IMHO to have 1/3 including nations that seem to be doing well. Then throw in the fact the point of this game, which I didn't organize, was to tell a story, not necessarily win. Its pretty sad. When I said I'd admin, I figured I'd change the hosting interval every now and then, not have to be sending PMs to prod players to play or trying to finding subs every other week.
Anyway, my rant is over. I am stuck in this game and now that I have vented I will see if I can find someone to turn TC AI, and sub for Mari.

High on your daily bump of self-pity, you intentionally fail to acknowledge the entry of your Espionage Chief as he hurriedly scurries across chamber with a thin, weasily looking bafoon in tow.
"Beg'ur pard'on, Lo-rd?" Imbicle. "Ahem, beg'ur pard'on, Lo-rd?"
Rolling your eyes, you sigh long and painfully, finally settling your gaze on him. Sweet mercy, he's ugly! Does he even have any teeth? "Beg'ur pard'on?" Nope, just the one.
Without saying a word, you make a slight gesture indicating that you'll hear what he has to say.
"Si-ar! Tis 'oung scout ha' jus' retur'd from b'hind en'my lines!" You watch the fine mist of spittle he just ejected dance playfully in the sunlight. "E ha' NEWS! 'rom the n'tion a MARIGNON!"
Marignon! Your brow perks up. Oh! If I could only lead Marignon... The familar fantasy scrolls in front of your eyes... Thier men, all so brave! So handsome! Such great conversationalists! And their women...the vision is abruptly dissolved by an unconscious garlic-toenail belch.
Sure enough, the scout does indeed have news from within the Great Nation of Marignon, which had fallen silent in recent months, and was feared (by you, mainly) to be lost forever. But as it turns out, the entire nation collectively decided to take an extended, 3-month holiday, out of fairness to all the other nations. Those sportsmen! But the holiday is now over, and the Marignon government is back up and running, albeit with a super tan.
As the blubbering mess wraps up his story, you find yourself already dreaming up ways to welcome Marignon back. Gold? Gems? A Ring of Sorcery or really any other booster though we're pretty good on Astral and Fire at the moment but would certainly appreciate a Moonvine Bracelet? So many options!
Your gathered minions wince as you rise swiftly from your throne - the Concubine and Guards being exceptions - and stride quickly to your private quarters where you nervously scribble on a parchment:
My Dearest Marignon,
Who says this game is boring? That it can't be revived?...
You agonize over it for hours, though you know you'll never send it...

I stopped writing since most others were not writing and it was like giving away free intel to players who seemed to treat it like a regular game. It's surprising how people were excited to sign up but flaked almost immediately on the Chronicles part.
This is why I didn't sign up to join one of the games in the first place. It's a great idea on paper, but it's so easy to not do the actual work and produce something. And once you start losing it can be very easy to get discouraged and stop writing altogether. I would have really liked to see it work out, but I think you'd need a particularly dedicated group of writers to make it.

The criteria for winning should have been the best writing as judged by an independent panel. That might have motivated some people or made the self-selection process more appropriate.

I'm on holidays and I promise writing on my chronicles. I might, however, need a temporary sub, as maybe you've heard of the earthquake here in Italy and I am trying to go and give help to the struck area as volunteer. I don't think I'll manage to do it as actually only medics, firefighters, civilian protection squads and the army can get there, but if I'll be able to go there I'll let you know. Thanks for your patience :)

Tifone, of course whatever you need. Living in San Francisco, we are especially aware and concerned about earthquakes, as it is only a matter of time before we get hit again. In the words of an old punk band - "we'll sink with California, when it falls into the sea". Hopefully not for a while though. :)
Good luck with your efforts and let us know if you need a sub or extension.

FINALLY that damn Ice devil is dead, ALMOST managed to escape death for the, what? 3,4,5 time???
Oh and one more thing, isn't fire resistant 50 supposed to be NOT fire resistant 100??? It strikes me kinda odd how NOT A SINGLE AOE fire attack, nor fire spell did even 1 damage.
Now I see Jotunheim has finally turned AI, well I just want to congratulate Solmyr for making my turns as unpleasant as possible to see, it's been a while since someone tortured me like this.

It took me ages to find the original list on page 20 and yet half those nations or players aren't even in this game, so I'm not sure who's actually playing in this game.

So just to make sure I have the story straight, I press-ganged Cleveland to sub for Mari, he declared war on Ermor, then staled 3x while Ermor mopped the floor with Mari's brains? Yikes. Meanwhile Man is back to staling I see, 2 more in a row for a total of 7 (~20% of the turns this game)....
I'd like to make an offer to end the game – the snails' pace at 72 hours, the parade of stales/going AI has removed any semblance of a real game, the fact the original intent of the game has been abandoned, etc. I'd propose someone either looks at the turn files and declares a winner or we just walk away.
That said, if you all want to keep this thing going, then we may need a sub for Man or let his neighbors devour him.
@ Executor: i can't modify the first post. We could make a new one if people want to keep this thing going.

DC,
Alas... I'll sadly have to second that emotion... So far between turns I forget what I am doing... I have enjoyed the game nonetheless. If we do end it I will make a final Caelum summary in the wiki. I'd be interested to read other's motives and strategies as the game unfolded and would be happy to share turn files with anyone interested. Awaiting other votes...

Just want to say, my last two stales were not because I had forgotten about the game. First one, for some reason I didn't get my usual llamserver warning about the turn being due, the second one I somehow sent the wrong .2h
Given that frustration, I'm particularly keen on calling the game off. ;)

Here's the prob I have:
Even winning this game would not be satisfactory and will take months at our pace. The landscape has been totally messed up by stales. For example, my strategic thinking was that Marignon would be a good counter to Ermor, but they just evaporated with stales/player transition totally changing the landscape. The same might be said about Atlantis (under its old player) vs. me (although we were allies), or TC, or Man, or Hoburg.... Even if R'lyeh won this, I wouldn't even want to count it. So why play on in a game where most players would rather quit and a quarter of the original ones have just vanished? Not to mention, the story telling purpose of the game has disintegrated and that was why I joined.
Remember this -
I would like to join this game.
I prefer a "normal" game with VPs and a lot of writing/AARs...
If people don't want to write they don't need to join the game. There are enough others... :)
So far its 4-2 against continuing.
Caelum
Marignon (PMed me)
Rlyeh
Man
Any others have an opinion? If the remaining players strongly want to continue, maybe we can find some more subs...

Atlantis here. To be honest, the game is not that interesting for me :( I'll keep on playing and doing my best, but there is actually very little I feel I could do with just WEA magic available (and since a few turns back Death too), very hard pressed by hostile dominions spreading under the waves, and there is only so little I can RP to the wiki (Turn 33: This turn we did raise some taxes and built a temple. Turn 34: This turn we did raise some taxes and built a temple. Turn 35: This turn we did raise some taxes and built a temple...). Ok, I have (I think) recruited and summoned a nice army (compared to what I had when I joined the game) for such a small nation that Atlantis is atm, but I am so far behind in research (I think) that the end-game doesn't look promising.
So, I'll continue if the majority decides to continue, but I wouldn't actually cry a river if the game ended...

Everyone sees that most of us lost interests in writing. Your discussion several turns ago where you stated that you stop writing may worsen the problem (at least it did for me). And you're right by sure my words at the start was by far more ambitious than i end with. I know it!
However whats the sence of starting a discussion for ending the game? There are still players which have some fun and for me its my only running game in dominions. If you don't want to continue the easiest way is to find a sub.
I can take over the game admin if you want.

I with Calmon, I think I have a solid position, would be better if I had some neighbors turn AI or my enemies wouldn't fight till the last man standing but hey, I'm used to s**t happening only to me.
Being a mod nation, and a damn interesting one I'm still up for this game.

I have to second Jarkko's opinion right now. I have a relatively solid position so it wouldn't do justice to the nation if I quit. At the same time , much of the interest was lost for me when KO'd dropped out. I had plenty of plans for intrigues at TC court... :( Plus other stales. I just don't know whether it's still worth it.

This is probably one of the best positions I am in and R'lyeh is definitely a contender. I just can't see a win even feeling rewarding given the all the drop-outs.

Yes the drop-outs do give a considerable advantage to some players, and while I do have a good position I won't be the one trying to force anyone to continue the game. If EVERYONE wants to quit this then I say we do, if you wanna keep playing, even better, what ever you guys decide.

And now, the syllogistic method of reasoning.
A) This game's purpose was to inspire creation of original entertaining/engrossing stories.
B) Victory - in any game - is fulfillment of the game's purpose.
Given (A) and (B), clearly:
C) Calmon & Executor must write for our amusement.

I propose a Final Judgement wherein the Lesser Races decide who the True Pantokrator will really Be based primarily on who paid the most attention to his Creative Writing Teacher.

I worsened the problem?! - come on, get real calmon - thats 3rd grade psychology. you clearly weren't writing anything before i said anything...
even though this wasn't my game concept, I stepped in and tried to keep it alive. i looked for every sub: hoburg, atlantis, marignon...not a single player posted a message to try and get one themselves. ko just stopped playing, and the players here didn't want to get him a sub the time i mentioned it until he got to the point he staled so many times it was hopeless. (although he clearly has diplomatic immunity from any wrath given his overall contributions to the world :) )
what i find annoying is chronicles devolved into a game where some people like yourself were playing it as a hardcore competitive game, while others were happily writing of their exploits, disclosing intel, and other were just abandoning it, etc. not a great mix for a fun game.
anyway, i've pm'ed you the password. you can be admin and figure out what to do. if you can keep the game going (and fun), i'll keep playing. good luck.

KO had diplomatic immunity from me because I'd linked my initial story to his one (my Pretender had historical claim to the Tien Chi throne when he was alive). A pity it wasn't to be. And sorry if I actually stopped Tien Chi from actively participating when KO dropped out... :( Still, when it occured first, he found a sub - so I hoped that he will find someone again.
And I think that cleveland drove straight to the heart of matter. I even may try to write something myself... ;)
