Read the whole discussion thread, it's really amazing game setting. It's new concept for me, but I'll try my best.
I prefer EA Caelum/MA Jotun/LA Bogarus. So Age is not a issue for me, all three eras are fine. However I strongly suggest not using the single age MOD as it will ruin the RP environment and it's unbalanced. (Well if player's picks are well diversified so that there are no nations from same kingdom line, it would be fine to use single Age mod)

Hinnom/Ashdod/Niefel for me, got story for all of them :)
I have nothing against single age mod, but I'd like to restrict choices to just 1 instance of multi-age nation.

My first pick would be LA Atlantis. I've got some ideas, both gamewise and narrative, I'd like to try. After that, I'm not sure. Let's say MA Machaka and EA Agartha.
I have a slight preference for LA, but I'm also fine with using the all-eras mod. I'm even okay with allowing duplicate nations, provided that each player can come up with a background story explaining the differences between themselves and the other nations of the same name.

Like solmyr, I'm not in favour of Single Age, I'd like EA but any Era works, so I'll put up my preference when you've decided about the mod or the era ;)

Fine with any age, I'd like to try a mod nation> Tomb Kings, Sylvania and maybe Insectiods for EA still not sure, they seem a bit too strong, something like LA Ermor.

I Could live with the single age mod.
Also my whole preferences are Skaven/EA Kailasa/MA Pangaea but skaven is strongly preferred.

I think I can get away with the Single Age mod, but definitely restricted to one incarnation of a nation (possible exceptions for Helheim/Vanaheim and Marignon/Pythium/Ermor). If it presents a problem this time around I won't use it again, but better to try things out for the experimental pilot, right?
A request has been made for PBEM, if there're no objections I'll be setting this up to host on the Llamaserver.

Zeldor - good to see you are not powergaming with Ashdo/Hinnom/and Niefel
I'd rather not do a Single Age Mod. I'd vote for MA.
Nation preference depend on Age I suppose but for MA I'd like to try Ryleh and for LA - Pythium. For EA, I will take whatever.

EA Fomoria, MA Pythium, LA Ermor

Well, that makes 19 players, which takes the provinces per player down to ~14. I think I'll call that 'full'.
Assuming those who have not voiced an opinion are not in favor of the use of the Single Age Mod the poll suggests it not be used. However, with 18 players, there's going to be a fair amount of difficulty assigning nations to people. Currently, if nobody minds the following mod nations (I've played two of them, they're strong, but they're comparable to a strong vanilla nation) Middle Age would seem the best option, since everyone can have something off their list without overlap.
Mod nations:
Skaven
Hoburg alliance
Tomb Kings
To reiterate, for those of you waiting to find out which era they're in, it's Middle Age.
Now, if those of you with thoughts on the matter would go look in the original discussion thread, I'm curious about the opposal of the Single Age Mod.

I'm afraid I don't think it'll get used at all. Since the point is to get people writing I'd rather they be as comfortable with the setup as possible. Since some of the players are strongly opposed I'm going to have to go along with that.

I hope we are not going to have 72h turns from the beginning. I know we have to write smth, but it's not longer than 15 mins usually in the beginning. Let's go with normal turn timer, so 24h till about turn 20-25.
Tifone
December 2nd, 2008, 03:47 AM
24hrs is too short for me and I should drop. Not less than 48 quickhost for me, sorry. Another player here IIRC said he was up only for a slow game...
solmyr
December 2nd, 2008, 10:52 AM
Oh, I can't do 24 hours turn, either. I'd suggest 72 hours a turn with quickhost on, so the pace will be at everybody's comfort.
Hadrian_II
December 2nd, 2008, 11:31 AM
It would be only 24h for the first few turns, that take 5 min to do, so i strongly vote for it. I think the only thing that would make long turns in the start necessary are people that have only access to the internet every 48h (and this would be a rather strange occurance).
Tifone
December 2nd, 2008, 11:36 AM
I'm sorry to apply to the strange occurance Hadrian. :o
If I am the only one and all the other guys really want the 24hrs I can disapply to the game (self sacrifice for the sake of the many) but I think there are others which need a bit more hours. Being quickhost, it will not be full 48 too, probably around 30 or so.
Lokean's decision anyway :)

December 2nd, 2008, 12:15 PM
Speaking as an interested spectator (and potential sub, should the need arise), and an advocate for slow games...
Mistletoe is on turn 16 running at 6-day quickhost from turn 1.
Yarnspinners2 ran 3 turns/week from turn 1, no quickhost.
The turn interval was announced in post #1; presumably everyone understood that when they signed up.
Zeldor
December 2nd, 2008, 12:27 PM
IT was added later. And there are slow games and there are also dead games. There is absolutely no reason to have 72h timer when turns take 5 mins max.
Ylvali
December 2nd, 2008, 01:56 PM
The turns might take 5 min. But I think this game should be more about role playing and that takes time. Use the extra initial time to create a really good background story for your race and commanders, the rise of your prophet and so on.
Though I agree that 72h is a bit long to begin with. I vote for 24 the first 5 turns and 48 from then on.
I can´t help but notice that I have been assigned two nations in the first post. I only want the hoburgs.
Tifone
December 2nd, 2008, 03:34 PM
Just starting with 48? I hate to ask this but I'd be in great trouble playing 5 consequent days - I don't have continuous access to the game.
Lokean
December 2nd, 2008, 04:41 PM
I'm not dropping it below 48h quickhost, but I suppose 48h is fine until somebody appeals for longer.
Also, anybody asking to join the game now will be considered for reserves if the original interested parties have dropped, but will not be added as a potential player unless somebody else pulls out, decides they don't want to play after all or vanishes.
K_O, if you're reading this still, would you prefer T'ien Ch'i to Shinuyama?

With that attitude with timer you may have plenty of people staling or going AI. Just a warning based on some MP games.
Gandalf Parker
December 2nd, 2008, 05:16 PM
Considering that people have often complained about 24 hour forced turns we might want it longer. A 24 hour turnaround does work well but after all, those were games where all you had to do was plan your moves and turn them in. If we allow one day to make your move, and then another day or two or more to get antsy thinking about the game then maybe it will help draw out the AAR writing we are hoping for.
Tifone
December 2nd, 2008, 05:23 PM
I think you're a little armageddonish my friend :)
Just playing one day every two (eventually as there is quickhost) instead of every day, in order to help game-companions partecipate the fun... would be sad if just this pulls someone out of the game.
Maybe if this one goes away just for this he wasn't really so interested in playing this game... ? It seems that for its very nature Lokean's Chronicles will be somewhat slow anyway soon. ;)
For me, can't wait for it to start. Must also say it's an honour for me to play with some famous ppl of the forum and I thank Lokean even for this

December 3rd, 2008, 06:45 AM
Put it this way, I could go to a bigger map, but unless the magical mod pixies sprinkle me with fairydust I'm still going to reach the point where there's more interested parties than there are nations they'd like to play. Twenty players on the Orania maps is a nice, shoulder-to-shoulder 14 provinces apiece (unless you're underwater, in which case it's time to evolve lungs), which should equate to most nations meeting one another on turns four to six.
It does, however, mean there's now very little chance nations not being crushed beneath the weight of expansionistic xenophobia.

Axes swing, trees drop, and the billowing clouds of smoke announce The Great Forges of Ulm are fed once again. Every manner of scampering vile creature peer from the shadows, half men corrupt the souls of the innocent, and righteous men fear to sleep for the demons that flit to their dreams. The Cleansing has been proclaimed and all true men are called by Mama Gaga the Rising Star of the Morning to condemn sorcery in all its dark forms. Suffer no witches to live, and send demonfriends to meet their masters. The perversion of the walking dead will be laid to rest, and the foul abominations which resulted from man lying with beast shall be purified. Heresy in all forms must be destroyed, we fight for the very soul of mankind.
Mama Gaga promises purity for all men. The Black Order has been reformed and the most formidable military force of mankind assembles. Faith in purity. Faith in man. Faith in steel.
Billowing smoke announces the Great Forges of Ulm are fed and all the strength of pure men gathers behind impregnable pure black steel. Prepare for the end half men and all things oblique, the age of man has come and there is no place in this new world for you.

Don't know, Gandalf. I always try gods that look sensible from RP point of view for me - and you know, they are often good enough for winning... ;) For example, races which are described as undisciplined, etc. often benefit from Turmoil+Luck scale, while those that are described as orderly often benefit from Order. I am not sure whether that was intended, but it sure looks like that to me (and I plan accordingly).
And sorry for not making an introduction for the nation, but right now several powerful spirits are vying for domination among Shinuyama goblins... ;)

The council of Atlantis was in turmoil. The old god was gone and thus the age old struggle would begin. They had no idea how to react to this, and so it looked like the unity of Atlantis was shattered.
Then came Diran
He was a great dagon whose mere presence brought a frigid calm to the room. They realized that they were now involved with the coming crisis, and that they would have to stick to it till the bitter end.

Not transparent? Sure he is. I didn't see him yesterday.

- Hugo! Hugo! there´s beer in the fountain down at Hefners!
Hugo took another puff of his pipe while waiting for his nephew to catch his breath.
- Are you gone mad boy? there´s always beer in the fountain. Never cleans up proper I say. Thats what I said last town meeting, true as I sit here! Now sit here and I´ll tell ya...
- No no, you don´t get it! You gotta come and see!
Whats wrong with the young uns these days? Hugo thought as he stood up. (It took some effort, ten meals a day) And rumbled after his nephew...
The Hoburgs were always a peaceful people, concerned with little exept well cooked meals and good tobacco, but the day the sacred beer began pourin from the old fountain everything changed. Those who drank it were aroused to holy awareness of the sorry state of the world. First of them were Hugo Bremt, who raised his head thoughtully after having his first pint and spoke his prophecy:
- All those sorry big uns out there, striving and quarreling and going on about magic and adventures and such... It ain´t decent it ain´t. Can´t get a pint worth its name outside of Hoburgdorf these days, not to speak of tobacco. Ain´t civilized and decent like us. Someone ought to do something...
They called it Bierqell Brunnen, and bottled it up for their crusade, to remind the lads of home, to encourage and bless them in battle. It became their god and religion, to spread the good life to every corner of the world.
Looking forward to this...

Since the time of the old Pantokrator's reign, a line of kings has ruled over Machaka. In name, at least. In truth, it is the priests of the old faith who hold power, and most day-to-day affairs are handled by the tribal chiefs. With one exception.
Deep in the heart of the sacred forest lies the lonely peak of God Mountain, where dwell the sorcerors who claim descent from Machaka's ancient god. They do not interfere with the affairs of the kingdom. However, whenever a new king is crowned, or whenever a new chief takes power in a tribe, he must make a journey to God Mountain. There, the sorcerors lead him through the caverns to the heart of the mountain where lies the Chamber of Silence. The tomb of the Dead God. Here each new chief spends a day in recognition of Machaka's ancient deity, cast down long ago by the Pantokrator. This contemplation in the still and the darkness gives him the strength to lead his people wisely.
A year ago, a young man named Matojo became chief of the Mhakala tribe upon the death of his elder brother. Many thought him too young, and would have placed his uncle in power instead. To still their protests, he made the long trek to God Mountain. The sorcerors led him down into the darkness, and left him to contemplate the death of a god. He sat for a long time, in that chamber where light and sound are forbidden. And then he heard a Voice...

Prologue - Jotunheim
War, war never changes.
Memory of war never goes away easily. From Giant's Throne to Bitter Wood, from Horseheight Hill to Dwarven's Sorrow, we won victory over victory against the Vanir race of Vanheim, but until the day we started to siege the great city of Vanheim. We had our chance, and courage is always on our side. If the filthy Helheim did not backstab on us and raid on our home provinces, if the grand admirals of Vanheim did not miraculously break the storm on the Sea of Eternal Ice and reinforced their capital on time, the whole history of North Land will be different. In the end, Niefilheim was no more. Jarls divided to seek their own fate.
Every Jotunheim child can tell this story, so does Garm, the first son of Fjun Glacier, Jarl of Glacier Clan. Fjun was one of the eight greatest Jarls in Niefilheim. Unlike his father, Garm was praised more for his wisdom than for his strength. When the final day of Niefilheim approached, Fjun Glacier ordered his clan kins pack and head south, along with their families and slaves. Rumor said that Glacier Clan feared the upcoming onslaught and fled, but Garm knows the truth: The eight Jarls were long separately both physically and mentally since the great rout in Vanheim battle. There was no hope fighting with them in the final battle. So when Angarboda, the chief advisor of Glacier family told Fjun Glacier, by showing him the twisted sign in blood bowl, that there was a great forest of Iron and Ice, a promising land to the far south, Fjun made up his mind and raised the assembling call.
The journey to the south was never easy. In the first year, harsh ambush and raiding from Valkryrie killed almost all the slaves. The next few years, a mysterious plague spreaded in the ranks, many old Gygjas did not make it in the winter. Later on, even the strongest Niefil giant caught the disease. Unfortunately, Fjun was affected in the fifth year of the journey. Angarboda tried every dark art she knew, but eventually, all she could do was to ease the Jarl's pain. Fjun died in the summer of the fifth year. Even in his final days, there was not a single clue of the whereabouts of the promising land.
So, after buring his father, Garm Glacier became the Jarl of Glacier Clan. His father left him with only a handful of bodyguards and a clan of dying giants. Even Angarboda began to show some symptom of disease. "The whole clan was doomed the first day the mysterious plague started", obviously the clan kins did not fully trust their new leader. "We march, Iron Woods must be near." Garm gave his first official Jarl's order.

Since this game is special, I'll try something new. Instead of picking allies or enemy purely based on a geopolitics prospective, I'll add ideology and racial/historical elements into consideration this time. For instance, if you read my prologue, Vanheim clearly got lots to do with the divide of Niefilheim. So unless efforts were put in from both sides, I would have a very negative option on Vanheim. I'll probably stop trading with them, send spies or even declare war.

An excerpt of The History and Teachings of the Church of Saint Joachim, by Martin Callard, Inquisitor and Master Theologian of Marignon
According to our most trusted records, Saint Joachim first came to our land two centuries ago, a time where many living on the outskirts of the Ermorian Empire were growing wary of the burgeoning Death Cult of the heartlands. At the time, Our Lord was seen as a simple mage and philosopher. He would travel from village to village, awing the populace through magical cantrips and intriguing the educated through his wisdom. In these dark times, his promises of salvation and redemption enraptured many, but the complacent Ermorian authorities would usually turn a blind eye to his actions, concerned with other matters. And whenever a governor attempted to put a stop to his preaching, he would disappear without a trace.
As decades passed, Joachim's followers would spread his teachings, raise a new generation of believers, and pass away, but Our Lord himself never aged, not a single sign of the passage of time would tarnish his visage. As news spread of his apparent immortality, more and more would become convinced that he was the bearer of a divine mission or heritage. Even today, no one knows for certain whether Saint Joachim is a simple human granted eternal life until his Holy Mission is complete, an angel of the Celestial Choir descended to guide us, or something else entirely. Our Lord never enlightened us on this subject, and though we cannot fathom his reasons, we shall not question his wisdom, for to do so is to blaspheme.
And so it came to pass that, throughout the land that would come to be known as Marignon, belief in Saint Joachim spread, and that, when the time came, his followers were numerous and prepared.

Some time ago in the great undercity of Skavenblight:
It was a normal day, where myriads of rats where running in the streets, some doing their own business, some doing the business of others, some death on the floor who had just been doing business.
But today was also a little meeting in an obscure part of the town where only the most powerful and wise grey seers were allowed to participate.
Lord Kritislik Seerlord of the Skaven
Lord Keelik the Mad
Lord Queek the Knowledgeful
Lord Thanskat he who knows the Future
Lord Erlisk the Warpseer
After a long and heated discussion Kritislik takes the word "So we are in an agreement! The time of Ascension has arrived. The Skaven will finally rule the world. All praise the Horned Rat and his Emissary who will lead us in this time of joy.". Queek and Erlisk dont seem to happy about this, but as they see that the members of the council guard are ready to draw their weapons they fall silent.
Keelik: "We need still some time, the warrior clans should fall in line fast, but the great clans might not be willing to follow us as determined as we need."
Tanskat: "We will visit them starting with clan Eshin and we will have to pursuade them to join us"
Queek: "And when they agreed, they will persuade the other clans for us"
The meeting ends with an evil laughter of everyone present.

Dear Mom,

Even the Wingless don't take cripples... so they hand me a pitchfork and prod. Now I'm freezing and knee deep in Mammoth s*h*i*t. I asked what happened to the last handler. Sorry for taking so long to reply, I've been out of town. Regarding my nation, EA Agartha is my top pick followed by EA (or any) C'tis and EA/MA Shinuyama.
Edit: While I'd prefer EA just because that's my favourite Agartha I'm pretty ambivilent whether or not we use single age mod and can just as easily do MA/LA.

Prologue - Shinuyama (sorry for delay, these Pretenders got argumentative... ;) )
***
Those who had seen mount Shinuyama at that night would think that the ancient volcano awakened again as it was almost all highlighted by fires which danced in rythm of sound like thunder. But what actually occurred here was probably even more threatening, at least for those who did not live very close - and such fools were long dead. For at that night goblin tribes of Shinuyama gathered to call forth the God who will lead them in troubled times to come.
The summit of the mountain was circled by shamans and sorcerers deep in communion who summoned great spirits offering guidance to the tribes in return for their worship. Here also were tribe leaders who judged which one would better lead them all. They eyed each other closely and their hands never stayed far from handles of their swords for here lied an opportunity to rise above one's peers and they all wanted to take it. Some were absent, but if they won't take part in ceremony, their clans will lose status and spoils of conquest will be divided without them, too.
Soon the first one manifested in the ring of fires - a spirit of the Holy Mountain itself, it was mighty and bakemono venerated it for a long time. It offered to lead its worshippers to battle, and many hailed him while one of the gathered chieftains stepped forward to become its champion. Then a dragon from the cloud-covered peak nearby appeared to offer the same and another chieftain supported him. Still, most waited, knowing that there were no longer scattered tribes around them, but mighty empires rising to claim all the world for their gods, and it could be much more difficult to beat them.
Then the flames danced wildly and a stench of blood filled the air. A voice sounded from nothere:
- Worship me, and I will bring you prosperity and strength. Many will fear you, for I will give you secrets of the ancient magic... Make sacrifice... Make it now - for I must be free!
One of the gathered chieftains raised his arm and cut it with knife - and the stench of blood became thicker as something began to appear in the ring... Many of the chieftains began to gather about the first one who have chosen the newcomer
Then another voice thundered:
- Banish this foul apparition! He will bring suffering to yourselves - not only to those you fight with! Demons whom he'll summon cannot be trusted. I know - I fought them fro the Pantocrator and have beaten it once. And I will teach you how to fight as regular army, not a gathering of tribes! Many will be those who will follow me and they will become your allies!
Many were those who nodded hearing this and seeing a regal figure of the celestial warlord. However, those who have heard the apparition did not draw back - for they knew that backing a losing Pretender will result in both death and humiliation. Swords hissed leaving their scabbards.
As the chieftains began the fight which should decide who will lead bakemono to conquest, one of the sorcerers surrounding ring, slowly raised.
- Enough of this foolishness!
His voice easily raised above din of combat.
- I will rule!
As one of the other sorcerers seemed to want to say something, the new pretender had drawn his sword and in one fluid motion struck the objecting one down.
- I am no less immortal now than these spirits! And I know what you all want - I will bring you loot and killing enough to sate everybody! You, General - we do not need your "allies" - they will want to make us to bow down to mere humans - and that cannot be!
A roar of agreement seemsed to shook the mountain.
- I need no champion, - continued ancient sorcerer, - I will show you all how your master fights!
He waded into combat, easily ignoring strikes of mighty chieftains and striking them down one after another...
Many were slain, including some sorcerers forming the communion. Others, raising from their trance, skulked into darkness, clutching their heads, their magic powers wiped for a long time by concentration needed for this one ritual. One, however, suddenly stopped looking around...
- There is more! - cried he and dropped down.
Fighters warily backed away from each other. Several who tried to hold back the Kunshu sorcerer were tired and wounded, except the mountain spirit's champion, who looked fresh. Sorcerer himself, however, showed no effects of blows which striked him. He slowly drawn somebody's sword from his chest, dropped it on stones and stepped on it, breaking the blade.
- So it will be with you.
- You are mistaken, sorry, - another voice said, with intonations out of place here in the wildereness.
- And who are you?! - sorcerer whirled, sword in hand.
- I am THE one who really deserves to ascend to godhood, - answered the newcomer, whose transparend body was covered with ancient mantles of Tien Chi courtier. He seemed to have no weapons, but beared himself as a warrior. - I see, there is at least one here who can introduce me, aren't you, General?
- You are a traitor! - roared the Celestial general. I'll kill you!
- Impossible, sorry. And, saying nothing about the fact that it was I who crushed your army before, your lord, while unmistakably of royal blood, had no Mandate of Heaven, and so had no more right to rule than our over-enthusiastik friend her, - he pointed at Kunshu, - while my lord did.
- You betrayed him, too!
- No, I just beat his worthless descendant to assure that the Empire will be ruled by worthy lord. And yes, I remember that it was my son who founded the next dynasty...
- Now it is brought down, at last! Justice triumphed!
- Yes, Heavens seem to scorn my genius, while accepting your mulishness as something worthy to worship. But even if eunuchs of the nowadays court won't acknowledge me as rightful ruler, this won't stop me!
The ancient warlord and Emperor-maker turned to accembled chieftains.
- Listen to me, warriors! Spirit of the mountain was worthy to worship when you huddled here and fought each other - but I offer you the world! Dragon is strong enough, but he isn't the sorcerer you need to fight off enemy demons! Spirit of blood was beaten by general and I have crushed this one. And you sorcerer here can only offer you things of past, which are not enough now when new empires rise! I will teach you to grow rice so you would not hunger and will multiply. I will teach you to make weapons of fine steel. And I will teach you to fight as civilized empire - like THIS!
He brought his fan sharply down and a rain of arrows from darkness struck at most of the chieftains still warily watching each other.
- You can't kill ME like that! I am immortal!
Kunshu looked like hedgehog, but arrows seemed to do him no lasting harm. He rasied his sword in preparation for charge. His opponent, though looked unfazed:
- You are fool. You shouldn't think that killing everybody who built a sanctuary for your heart will suffice to hide its location from those who know how to speak with a dead. Bring it.
Two bakemono appeared from darkness, carrying a large ceramic urn. Both moved shamblingly and as they drew closer, all have seen that they throats have been cut. Still, they moved.
Kunshu screamed and charged at them, but as he was almost there, the strategist gestured with his fan. Both soulless collapsed and urn shattered, dropped on stones. A heart, still beating, lay between its shards.
- You thought to kill them another time? No need. And as for this...
As if summoned by another fan sign, a single arrow appeared from the darkness and pierced the heart. With a scream, the sorcerer collapsed.
- And this, - said the new Pretender as a figure of another Dai Bakemono chieftain appeared in firelight, - is my champion. Be sure to do what he says, as he has instructions for you until the time when I will rejoin you. I WILL have the
Throne of Heavens! And you - will rule the world!

Nice stories, from the shorter to the longer ones guys, I really enjoyed them all. I suppose it's my turn to start posting some introduction too now about my nation and chosen pretender. :)
Aeons after that the "society" of men forgot the great empires, battles and gods of the past, a discovery beyond belief threw the shadow of the doubt on the history of humanity.
The archaeological excavations in the great desert brought from the sands to light the ruins of an ancient kingdom, which existance was to date to an Era the humanity didn't even think their world existed.
The unbelievable prehistoric city was amazingly advanced for the time, with great buildings including high walls, tall towers and overshadowing mosquees. On everything, a deep layer of cinders... like if great flames had enlightened the whole reign for millennia.
The greatest discovery the "scientists" of men made, was found into the greatest temple, now collapsed (the unforgiving time? or razed by invaders?). Into it, on a golden lectern, a book of an unknown fireproof material stood like if the weight of the time and destructions wasn't able to touch its pages.
The translation of the book took years, and as expected, but still in the general amazement, it revealed itself being a holy text with stories of prophets, heroes, monsters and so-called "Pretender Gods". It narrated of the Abysians, or "Nar Sa'ab", the people of the Fire, and of their once great reign and religion. The mosaics and paintings on the ruins of the walls of the temple helped the "historians" of men to understand the incredible events of this distant past.
Here is the first chapter. In black, the annotations of the "glottologists" of men.
-
Shalallam a-El'Fyara! ("Glory to the Flame" - a starting and concluding sentence for hymns and prayers and a common greeting in this religion-heavy society)
It is said and sworn that in the third day of the month of the Scorpion in the first year of the Second Era after the disappearance of the Pantokrator, everything changed!
It is said and sworn that Ras Sulawar, Shalallam a-Y'Fyares! ("Glory to his Flames") , the great Anathemant Dragon (seems not to be an actual dragon, but rather some kind of religious patriarch) , was belting from the top of the Minaret the call to the Evening Prayer for the people of Abysia.
His devotion was strong in his heart, his mind, his spirit, his tongue. The Three Gods revered by the Abysians, *The Ascended One* who from the people of Hinnom became the God and replaced the Pantokrator in the First Era, *Jidr Al Kalima* who was worshiped in the sky, and *La'i'm Dam* who was worshiped in the land, all of them were very pleased of him.
Under his blurry old eyes, tens of thousands of glowing people started to pray and sing the glory of The Three Gods. But the resplendence of the Nar Sa'ab was no longer the one of the ancient times. The Warlocks, in their cross-breeding experiments (seems incredible, but it is the only viable translation! These ancient people talk about "cross-breeding experiments"!) had corrupted the pure blood of the Children of Rhuax. Ras Sulawar could remember the words and stories of his long-dead father, Abu Alrayyah, Muneziz a-Y'Vhaif! ("Peace to his Cinders"), the last Anointed of Rhuax, about the time of the Burning Ones. But all their blood had been diluted in the blood of the pink-skinned animal, the two-footed pig (the humans?), and the city was no more glowing as much as in their time.
Suddenly an high shout pulled him out of his reflections.
"Great Ras! Great Ras Sulawar!" A winged Demonbred was flying up the minaret, reaching him.
Never, in the memory of Abysia, such a thing was done during the prayer. The shocked Lava Warriors, guardians of the mosquee, were about to slay the offender.
But Ras Sulawar, Shalallam a-Y'Fyares!, in his unlimited wisdom, understood that something serious had happened, and in his neverending benevolence stopped the flails of the righteous warriors with a word.
"Great Ras, look! *Jidr Al Kalima*! The Divine Glyph!" shouted the Demonbred reaching him.
Ras Sulawar glanced up. Such did the Abysian people, and the prayers and choirs stopped, and silence and screams of terror took their place. The Divine Glyph of Fire, Second God of Abysia, which had always stood over the Great Mosquee, which essence was once so strong to almost blind whoever looked at It from a distance, had lost His light and was now feeble. A quaver, and It disappeared.
A second shout came from another Demonbred. "Great Ras, look at the Unholy Fountain!"
The Third God, *La'i'm Dam*, was in the great square. It had poured blood for centuries, Its sight gladdening and frightening at once all the Abysians. The blood had stopped flowing, the Fountain was dry.
Ras Sulawar understood that something incredible had happened, and nothing would have been the same no more. He rushed to the square, sorrounded by the people of Abysia in search of answers. The Warlocks were questioning the silent stars without result.
Ras Sulawar looked at the Fountain of Blood. Only one minuscule tear of gore was dripping. He touched it, and his mind was possessed for a moment by the spirit of the Third God itself, who spoke His will in the mind of the Anathemant.
"I am *La'i'm Dam*, the Third of the Three of Abysia. But now I'm One. The *Ascended One* of the Rephaim, the one you worship as the First of the Three, who had taken the place of the vanished Pantokrator, has now disappeared like his predecessor.
This revolution has destroyed many of the minor gods, like *Jidr Al Kalima* the Second of the Three; many others have been made dormant for one long year; others, like me, are imprisoned by astral laces for a longer time.
Now all the remaining minor Gods have taken their old role of Pretenders, and only one shall rule at last.
You, my proud people, must bring me to the full godhood. Must make me, my dearly beloved Nar Sa'ab, the Second Ascended One. Shalallam a-El'Fyara!"
Ras Sulawar opened his glowing eyes. The now Only God of Abysia had chosen him to spread His Word in the lands; should he have proudly died in the battles which were to come, his brother would have taken the role. Suddenly, he felt the power of a new, superior holiness flow in the magmatic blood of his family once again.
The month after, Ja Ahrid was made Emir of the First Scorching Armada, and left the capitol to start enlarging the kingdom and spreading the Word.
The Grand Vizier Ras Sulawar observed the leaving legion from the Smouldercone.
Then, he started the long-forgot research of magical powers together with the Warlocks.
Here ends the first chapter.

Though the coming of chainmail is undeniably a great advantage to the armies of the Tribes, it is opposed to the ancient tradition of half-naked warfare.
Thus, upon their last meeting, the druids of the Carnutes decreed that any man who wishes to wear armor will have to abstain from wearing trousers.

Orania has about 260 land provinces but only 20 Water ones, so squeezing in two water nations would really cramp their style compared to the 10 (provisional) land players I think (Until they go all darwinian on us and crawl out of the oceans).

Hmm. It seems like our noble benefactor has dropped out of the other Chronicles game and another MP game he was involved in :( Looks like we might have to take it upon ourselves to get this thing organised.
Weeell, I guess the first thing to do (assuming you are in fact gone, Lokean, if not please step in and pimp slap me down for getting up in your grill) might be to finalize the map we're playing. Orania, our original suggestion, could easily accomodate the.. 15? players who're interested except for the fact that R'leyh and Atlantis would have 20 water provinces between them which might be a pain for a hopefully slower paced roleplay game (or maybe they will like the tension it could bring *shrugs*). If your serious about playing Oceania Tifone then maybe we should find a decent underwater map :D Awakening seems aboot right in province count, despite being a bit plain. Other than that Glory of the Gods or Edi's Faerun map are the only ones I know of that might fit. Anyone else know any decent maps of the right size?
Also, an updated player list since I guess Lok won't be able to update the one at the start of the thread. Anyone not in the list who wants to be or anyone who no longer wants to play?

I would be more than glad to be Oceania if we find a map were we can have some good underwater skirmishes :D But if necessary I can also switch to Kailasa without problems, really, a good map for everyone is more important than my nation :)
Before we start, I'd recommend everyone to check himself if he really wants to play the game :smirk: , really, being a game so fond on stories it's hard to replace a player, we lost Ylvali in the MA one and that's not good :o

Faerun does sound like the optimal choice; epic in scope and easy on the eyes to boot. The question is do we run the adventure version or just the regular? For those who've never tried the map the adventure version means that certain provinces on the map (major cities, sites of power, etc) have special defenders, like the dwarves of Mithril Hall or the undead and demons of Hellgate Keep, some of whom can be quite tough to beat).
While this would really unbalance a normal MP game (some defenders have quite significant magical items you can aquire, some people might start out with a province connected to their initial castle that they won't be able to take for a year or two and I can't quite recall but I seem to remember something about Edi placing special sites in some of the defended provinces? *shrugs*) I can only see it adding flavour and fun to our game. My vote would be for the adventure version but I can certainly understand if people would rather play vanilla.
Darkwind

I hearby accept this glamorous and highly paid position and all the associated perks that come with it. That said, if someone who has actually created a game before wants to do it I won't stand in your way ;) Otherwise eh, theres a reasonable chance that I won't accidentally esplode the Llama server and dominions as a whole.
So it seems that the Faerun Adventure map is kinda popular. Any objections to using that? Mod-wise I take it we're just using the new CBM 1.4?
If there are no objections to the map I guess I'll create the game in the next day or two and we can get this thang on the road. I'm pretty confused what the deal is with the wiki though. Does someone still need to create a Chronicles EA hub page for us to post on or have I just missed it?

Game Name on Llama Server: Chronicles_EA
Settings:
Age: EA
Map: Edi's Faerun Adventure Version
Mods: CBM 1.41
Host: Llamaserver. Initial hosting 48h quickhost, rapidly getting longer, probably to around 120h quickhost (per original instructions)
Players: 15
Score Graphs: Off
Hall of Fame: 15
Renaming: On
Everything else is default.
No special victory conditions. I guess we could make half/two thirds of the worlds capitals mandatory for victory if people really want.

---
The Basalt Kings gathered around the Dark Crystal as they had in ages past, searching for some truth in the near-black clouds in the crystal. Unlike in ages past, on this day, the Basalt Queens had joined the Kings in the great, dark room that held the Dark Crystal, which was not dark or cloudy, but clear and bright, and the Basalt Kings were staring intently not at unclear illusions with murky prophecies, but at one who thought himself a God to the Deep Ones.
"Young one--for young you must be--why do you seek to proclaim yourself the God of the Deep Ones? We are the Kings of the Deep, and no man has had his way in the black gorges where we live and will live."
"No man has had his way in your depths, and no man will have his way if you follow me. I am no mere man; I am a god."
"The Deep Ones have been, and the Deep Ones will be. You have said that you are our only hope, but we have seen into the heart of the Dark Crystal, and the Deep Ones are not destined to die."
"Your shore-dwellers will live, my dear King of the Deep, but the Basalt City will fall. You have seen that, I know. But, know also this--the future is not immutable. Join me, and I promise you, the Basalt City will stand, tall enough to pierce the top of the ocean, and the Deep Ones will survive. Join me, and I promise the Basalt Kings riches beyond belief and time to use the Dark Crystal for peace, not for war; join me and I promise the Basalt Queens dominion over all the world and vast congregations to hear your sermons. Send me away, and your enemies will give you death, and the Basalt City will fall. Refuse me, and the Atlantians will become simply another race to be conquered. Make your choice: live, or die."
Within the day, Atlantians were sent out in every direction to carry the news: All hail Critias, Prince of the Deeps! All hail the new God of the Deep Ones!

I don't think we need incentives. This is a game for people which like and enjoy writing stories. The writing is part of the fun of the game, if someone doesn't like to write stories can play another game and freely read what ppl in this game wrote. Simple as that. :)
Also it would be hard to 1) give ingame incentives (what do we do, we autotax ourselves and send money to the good writer? what's the thematic reason of that?), and 2) decide which writes the best - we all have different tastes regard of writing styles, form, etc. I.e. in the MA game all the stories are good and enjoyable and the ones I personally prefer are of Caelum's and T'ien Ch'i, but other people may prefer different styles and I think it wouldn't be fair to decide on majority :o

It looks like it, hEad, and we'd be glad to have ya. It looks like Pangaea is free now, as well as Kailasa and Ry'leh, although it seems Incabulos has Fomoria. And of course whatever nations noone picked in the list a few pages back.
Just to check, the person using Yomi -is- someone from this thread and just decided to change their nation, right? Just making sure it's not someone sending the wrong file by accident or applying to the wrong game.
Regarding a nation that rewards good/regular writing - ehhh... Unless we all get a set payout at set intervals for submitting a piece of writing, or say everyone votes every X turns to reward the player who's writing they've enjoyed the most over that period, then it would be almost impossible to distribute fairly due to the different opinions we'd all have the matter. Also it would require a fair bit of work editing the map to stop a 'free' capital being snapped up by someone. If enough people want to have it we can work something out, otherwise I'll take the lazy way out :angel
As for the CBM fix I'm easy either way. I don't think it has any glaring errors for our era. If it comes out in the next few days I'll definately use it. Your not the last to apply Incabulos, we're waiting on four more pretenders ;)

Dont just take over for me unless you REALLY want it. Send in your own Pangaean god. Mine is far from optimum for the CBM mod. I was going to have a rough time with him. Particularly in role playing as the human hater. No human indepts, no human mercs, no human allies.
But I will miss having fun with peoples titles. I was going to hold them to the epithets they got when they created their pretenders. Why would I have anything to do with a pretender whose titles included Duke of Corruption, or God of Fraud and Theft, or Patron of Liars?

Why would I have anything to do with a pretender whose titles included Duke of Corruption, or God of Fraud and Theft, or Patron of Liars? That's why I made sure that my god's titles weren't crazy. I got "Prince of the Deeps" I think, and "Prince of Metals". Fairly thematic for Atlantis, I say, with their Basalt Kings.

My inner pedant forces me to point out that basalt is a form of volcanic rock, not a metal. :o
And did we figure out what the deal with Yomi is?

I would very much like to play Pangea.
Under the carefree direction of Annaga-Gradana the peoples of Pangea begin to undertake what would be called an isolationist policy in other cultures, but in Annaga-Gradana's domain is merely an extension of her Pangea centric will. Not yet gaining the hatred of humanity that would characterize the future peoples of Pangea, Annaga-Gradana's time is one of boundless passion, insatiable lust, and languid slumber, a calm before the storm.

I'm afraid I have to demand you lower the quality of your writing. You're making me look bad, and we can't have that.:envy:

Well, I hope I don't spoil anything but it's a modified quote from the beginning of one of the classical Conan stories - which, of course, was an inspiration for EA Ulm! :) I don't remember the title offhand, but this episode was also taken as the starting episode of Conan the Barbarian movie. Both Howard's stories and movie are definitely worth to check - even though I generally love some other Howard's cycles more (namely Solomon Kane, Bran MakMorn, plus horror stories and humor ones, Bearcreek Gentleman being a favorite among the latter).
And step, for all things! It isn't easy to produce good-quality text constantly, so you may well surpass us somewhere at the middle. But I hope we will have something which would be enjoyable to read. ;)

If you had a decent browser like Mozilla Firefox, you could have just restored the tab with all the session data and text input with a right mouse click. Time for a change? ;)

Opera, too. But it seems unable to interact with this forum's engine. :(
Mozilla is fine, though.
Don't remember how difficult it would be to look through cache in Explorer, but it's possible to do manually iirc...

I have Opera but wasn't able to find a way to do that
Wrana
January 29th, 2009, 07:20 PM
Hmmm... If it was in Opera, it saves sessions automatically. You could either use its Recycle-bin-like button to restore tab immediately or (if you had session saved) kill it in Task Manager, reload and choose to load last active session. Now it's probably too late for either. But. You can still either try Opera's History (don't remember whether it wouldn't just load page anew... wait - there is an option in Opera's Preferences to change just that, so if you change it to load from cache before loading page from History, it should work).
Or you can just open in Explorer or your favorite shell (Far, NC, Windows Commander) one of the following folders:
Program Files\Opera\Profile\Cache4
Documents'n'Settings\your-account\Application Data\Opera\...
I recall it sometimes making profile in another subdirectory, but Cache4 should be a sure thing.
Then you just look for a html with a date/time matching that of your mistake and either open it in Opera or look with any viewer. I'd recommend the latter and if you find inside a text needed, copy it into any floder you use for such things - just in case.
Hope that's clear enough - I'm not in a particularly goof shape right now... But Opera certainly saves cache in any amount you tell it to - I made it about 100 MB and 1 month iirc.

Are we waiting for anything to get this game started?
Maybe Ruminant could set a deadline (Like 12:00 GMT Sunday?), send out PM's to those who haven't submitted pretenders telling them the deadline, and if they don't join up start without them?
Ruminant
January 30th, 2009, 05:30 AM
Alright, I can see everyones desperate to get started so how does a deadline of 3pm Sunday (GMT) sound? I've sent PMs to the four players that haven't submitted as far as I know, although I suspect that one of them has changed to Yomi without telling anyone ;)
Of course if anyone wants it to be extended for any reason at all, it's no problem. Just PM me or post here.

One small problem: the beginning of the first paragraph was present-tense, but then it switches to past-tense later on.
Another problem: There's nothing to tell us when the viewpoint switches.
Other than that, great story Ruminant. :D

Ooh, good call Darkwind. I changed tenses so many times to see what would sound better, guess I forgot to make something match up. And yes.. I may have to see about editing that unholy wall of text so it is readable by the human eye.
So. Noones owned up to being Yomi yet.. If noone has by the deadline I'll delete 'em.

February 1st, 2009, 01:25 PM
Weeeell... Really should start now. But I'm gonna sleep on it, give whoever hasn't signed up a couple more hours. I got a response from two of four people. And Yomi remains as mysterious as ever. Should I delete the pretender of Yomi or what? I don't want to inadvertantly kick out someone whos been following the game since the start but had a busy week and wasn't able to check the forums.. At the same time even one nation who had to go AI could kinda ruin the diplomatic scene.

February 3rd, 2009, 03:41 PM
Well, I'm going to wait one more night to see if our last person joins. Starting the game at roughly 15.00 GMT Wednesday afternoon. I'm going to leave Yomi in unless I hear otherwise or unless people want me to drop them. If nothing else happens then we'll have 14 out of 15 which isn't so bad.
Tifone
February 4th, 2009, 05:02 AM
I'd suggest against letting Yomi in if we don't come to know who he is - probably someone who sent the pretender to the wrong game, imho. Having to put a nation AI so early could really favour its neighbours.
Wrana
February 4th, 2009, 10:36 AM
While I'd like to see how someone would try to make it work, a possibility of having it as AI is depressing. And if somebody will take part, but not provide stories, it could be a bad example in this kind of game.
Ruminant, did you try to reach him via llamaserver -> e-mail he sent his Pretender from?
And - Tifone, were you able to find your prologue?
Tifone

Well, I'd say more power to them - and they may catch this incurable condition, too... ;) Back in 1990s we used to have long RPG-oriented talks with some friends on phones which were almost (meaning we had no independent proof, but) certainly bugged. I feel very sorry for guys who had to listen through all of it. :D

I am happy to announce that we are closer to starting than at any point up until now... Just.. One slight snag.. According to Llama server:
Players so far: 13 =/= Pretenders so far: 12
Whaaaaa?!
Its showing all 13 of the following nations, but only has valid pretenders for 12. My brains trust informs me the problem could be caused by an invalid pretender (wrong version of CBM maybe). Does anyone have an error message from the server sitting unread in a mailbox somewhere? If noone finds one in a day or two we may as well get everyone to resubmit to be safe. Hang in there! Our goal is so very, very close..

Ah! You could have asked me, you know, being as it looks like some kind of bug. Anyway, I don't know why it said 12 but it definitely has 13. I've corrected it now.
Incidentally if there _was_ a problem like someone sending in a pretender without using CBM, the LlamaServer has no way to catch it. So you would only know when you started the game and it said someone had cheated (in which case you'd just un-start the game and get them to resubmit their pretender).

Welcome to HTML, where usually all kinds of whitespace is contracted to a single space. The forum software actually does help users a lot by keeping linebreaks because it adds the relevant HTML tags when rendering a post.
If you want to keep text indentation, then wrap the relevant section in code tags. That's the button that looks like a sharp (#) in the editor window.

You heard the goat-sheep-camel-thing - we're good to go!
Major kudos to Llama for taking the time to look at the issue, thank you muchly ;)
Without further ado, I declare this game open for business with 13 players. *snips ribbon*
Turns at what, 72 hours to start and ballooning out quite soon? Remember you just have to let me know and they can be extended to whatever length you need.
llamabeast
February 11th, 2009, 10:00 AM
72 hours to start is long. Normal games have 24 hours for the first 10-30 turns. Even given that you have chronicles to write, you may want to be careful of making the turns too long, lest it gets a bit slow.
Just a comment, obviously go with the players' consensus.
