View Full Version : Sunslayer & MR

I've been noticing lately that Sunslayer seems to work just a little too well against high-MR units. I tried to check the debug log to see what the penetration bonus was, but as far as I could tell there was no resistance roll at all. It appears that Sunslayer has no MR resist at all!

I may be reading this log wrong, but for sure MR-18 units (30 Hangadrottir) are not anything close to immune to Sunslayer, unlike say a Shadow Brand.

that's because Drain Life isn't resistable
thus why SotD + BoQ = SC killing machine

Sunslayer has the Drain Life effect? I thought it was Cloud of Death, but now it looks like "Area Death" is a completely unique effect. (Cloud of Death damage is 9+D, whereas Area Death is 8.) I'm not sure what eff2 spc524416 as10140 al5 is--have you compared that to Drain Life?
For sure I don't see it restoring any HP to my SC.

Idle hands are the Devil's playthings
it has a Drain Life spell, not effect.
I dunno about that effect then.

The effect is just an area death, plain and simple. Only undead are exempt. Thats why you should not give it to living commanders. No MR that I'm aware of.

You arent that noob, Tifone. I was looking at these abbreviations and I was clueless too.

Standard of the Damned + Boots of Quickness. Normally Boots of Quickness don't double the number of spells you can cast per turn, but they do if you're casting from items. 10 water gems is cheaper than another 25 death gems for a second standard, and you get the same effect (two Drain Life spells per round, every round, indefinitely).

So, do I understand correctly that sunslayer's effect is irresistible instant death to all non-undead? That can't be true.

Oh, ok, thanks. I used these items ingame and read about them on the board so many times and still never thought about their abbreviations :D
@Max: well the Standard is 2 handed also ;)

From Max's debug output, looks like the Area Death effect is just 8AN. (Oh, Max already said that above).

@Psycho, I think it is 8 AN damage, based on the debug output, not instant death. You see that it did 15 damage to an earth elemental and 12 to an archer; this is common in my experience but occasionally a unit will take no damage at all. DRNs have a high variance I guess.
@Tifone, I meant a second standard on a second commander. :)

Oh, yeah sure. :) Well being cheaper mainly depends on the relative cost I think. Having i.e. Well of Misery up and gathering lots of D gems could make 25 D gems less expensive then 10 W if you have those scarce and need the blue ones for i.e. frost brands (or boots of quickness for the guys wielding frost brands, which would need those more than the Drainer in the backline :smirk: ). Which is not unlikely as if you have lots of D gems you prolly have many undeads with CR100% so tossing freeze death around is a very nice idea :cold:
