what will affect the spawning of crew's when a vehicle is destroyed ? is it completely random ?

1) What was the vehicle hit with. For example, if tank is destroyed by weapons with the same pen but different WH sizes, then the "larger" weapon has more potential re. killing the crew as well.
Massive overpenetration helps. You may have say 19 front armour and be destroyed by shell with 19 pen at that distance - more probability of crew survival if it is 19 armor and 100 shell.
Survivability of the vehicle (a little bit).
