View Full Version : MP Sol - CBM EA Game on Llamaserver: Running
Starshine_Monarch
January 6th, 2009, 05:26 PM
Nothing really new or fancy about this game. Seeing as many games are already filled up or running, I thought I'd create a new one, particularly for people coming back from Holiday happenings that want some action, though all are welcome to play.
=====Statistics=====
Settings/Mods - Early Age, Conceptual Balance Mod 1.3 will be used (Mod can be found here (http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showthread.php?t=39679)). Score graphs will be turned off. This makes it more difficult to bully weaker nations without doing your own intel work. Renaming will also be on. Other settings will remain standard.
Map - Map will be "Asia Twist" which can be found here (http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showpost.php?p=649938).
Hosting - Hosting will be every 27 hours with Quickhost on to start with. After 20 turns we'll have a vote to change the hosting time to whatever seems fitting.
Size - We now have our full compliment of 10 players.
Diplomacy - Diplomacy is really up to the players. Just note that treachery certainly won't win you any new friends, and if your victim has friends of his own to back him up, you might find yourself in over your head.

If you truly want 2 water nations I will take Atlantis, if you decide no water nations is ok I will go for Tir na n'Og.
Let me know!

If the last guy coming in doesn't want a water nation, you should probably pick Tir Na n'Og. If he does, Atlantis would be better so he can't just relax during the early game.

Starshine_Monarch
January 7th, 2009, 12:04 AM
Well Fomoria can get underwater as well, even without needing to research anything. In fact, anyone can once they find some Ichtyid, Shambler or Merman provinces. It should be alright to have a few water provinces at least. Granted this many is probably a little much.
Since nobody wants in the water, We'll switch to Primea (here (http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showthread.php?t=37593)).
And with that, we have our players. Give me a few minutes and I'll create the game. so you can send in your pretenders.

Just checked out the map...
Started with only 2 neighbors, and after that 2 provinces with pretty big special defenders.
Bad luck? Or is there something more to this map?
Starshine_Monarch
January 7th, 2009, 12:37 AM
It was maybe just luck. I'll be using a version of the map that has set starting locations.
Alrighty, since I see a few of you are newbies, I'll just review how this all works so we can get playing.
Once you've created and saved your Pretender God using the Game Tools option on the main menu, you go into your Dominions 3 directory. In the directory, there will be a folder called "savedgames" and in that, a folder called "newlords".
Go into the "newlords" folder and look for the file your pretender is in. The filenames follow a patterns. For instance, the first god you saved for Marverni would be named "early_marverni_0.2h" and the second pretender you saved for Early age Ermor would be called "early_ermor_1.2h". Find the god you wish to use and attach that to an email to the following address: pretenders@llamaserver.net
Make sure the subject of the e-mail includes the word "Solar" because that is the name of our game on Llamaserver.
Once we've started, you'll receive your first .trn file from turns@llamaserver.net. Create a folder in your savedgames folder named "Sol" or something like that (I suggest putting a hyphen in front of the name so it will always stay at the top of the list). Once that's done place the .trn file you just downloaded into that folder and open up Dominions. In the "Continue Game" menu there will be the game and you can play your turn.
Once your turn is over and you've clicked "End Turn", go back to the game folder in your savedgames directory. There should be a new file there. That's the .2h file. Reply to the e-mail that sent you the .trn file and attach the .2h file to it to send in your turn. If you wish to amend your turn, just send the file again after you've finished.

This is Llamaserver: http://www.llamaserver.net/
Here you will find a list of games that are being hosted there. Our game is called "Solar" (because it said the name Sol was too short). Games are listed in alphabetical order and you will find ours under the "Games waiting for pretenders". You can click on the name to see who has sent their pretender in so far.
Another note: Make sure that Conceptual Balance Mod 1.3 is active when you create your pretender.

There are some problems with this map I think in the neighbor assignments...
64 for example is a starting location with no neighbors...
Can some one else check into this so I don't think I'm crazy.
Actually it appears as though 63, 64, and 65 are all basically the same province, but if you start in 64 you cannot move anywhere...
Also a problem with 104 and 105
Starshine_Monarch
January 7th, 2009, 01:37 AM
1st: It is Solar. I messed up when making xSOLx, so I had it deleted. Or I thought I did anyway.
2nd: I won't pretend to know anything about how a map is coded. If you think you can fix it, it would be greatly appreciated. In the meantime I will look for a better map and failing that, create a random map for us.
licker
January 7th, 2009, 01:45 AM
Well I have no idea if those 'double' provinces can be fixed. It doesn't really cause any problems unless you start in one (or otherwise somehow wind up in one).
Of course it can be confusing if you are trying to move to one and keep on clicking in the wrong area.

I'm not sure what's wrong then, chris. I mean, we have 3 pretenders there already. All I can say is try it again and make sure you have the name Solar in the subject line and your pretender file is properly attached. Try putting your nation's name in the subject line as well. Failing that, copy and paste the error report you got here so we can see what the problem is.

Well it's not like my word is set in stone. We can take a vote on the two. Personally, I like the look of Asia Twist more.
And since there are no underwater nations, I don't think getting underwater should be a problem for anybody really. Just find the Ichtyids fast or use Mercenaries even. There are three teams of Mercs that can go underwater.

It's as "end-game" as you get, it's very unlikely to disrupt normal play any more than the above globals.
But what I really wanted to say with this post is:

Hey red,
First, what turn is corrupt,
Is it your outgoing turn 12, your incoming turn - when do you get the error (more specifically).
Did you delete your .2h's as advised in the email on the rollback. This is the biggest cause. Even if *everything* was exactly identical, it is possible for another nation to get the same unit id as you.. hence ... corruption.
If thats not it, the second most common cure, is to delete dominions and reinstall it completely.
If niether of those worked....then we either drop back a turn and punt or send it to illwinter.
pls advise.

Well, being a human race, I am likely to be hosed by armageddon.
However, that being said, I am opposed to changing conditions on people after the start of the game. Perhaps someone was planning on dealing with blood nations by casting armageddon. (And we havea couple of them in our game)..
I don't think we should even vote on it. Asking someone to vote against it is like saying.. yes I plan on casting armageddon. Sorta paints a bulls eye on ya.

Don't take this the wrong way but until you've been in a game where 10 armageddons have been cast you can't really claim that.
10 armageddons kill about 95% of the population, EVERYWHERE. While utherdark or something alike only affect the game for as long as they are present.
I'm fine with it, I've made a "in case of Armageddon strategy" but that will pretty much kill the game, trust me.
That comes from someone who is in a game where multiple Armageddons have been cast, along with AN, Illwinter and AC soon.
Now imagine is someone casts Armageddon and after that someone else casts AC. No more income=no troops, AC= gem usage down to a minimum.

Unless worded specifically otherwise a 3 turn NAP typically means that you have to give 3 turns notice before attacking an enemy, as opposed to being able to attack 3 turns after signing the treaty. It can be confusing at first, but it is the normal convention in MP games

I border Formoria and specifically did *not* attack him, due to the computer bugs.
I have been trying to get the game paused to fix the problem of him having corrupted files. I would be willing to roll it back. I personally hate it when a player is knocked out for computer reasons.
Red eyes did post that he could not open the game immediately after he had the problem.
I'll leave it up to starshine, but having been the recipient of the game being fixed my vote would be to extend the same courtesy.

so what does this mean exactly.. if we roll back are we honour bound to act as before? what happens to treaties made in the turns since then? I'm not trying to be obtuse, just have never come across a rollback of so many turns

I am moderately against a roll back of that magnitude, but will not balk if it happens.
It doesn't really have anything to do with my position or events (or lack thereof), just that 4 turns is alot of knowledge to use differently.

Dragar, I agree completely - and I don't think you're being obtuse at all. I do think on a rollback of this size we should talk about what we expect.
The rollback presents a storm of issues for example, our agreements.
I generally don't think that players could redo their exact actions even if they remembered them; I don't think its reasonable to expect them to *not* use prior knowledge. I'd expect everyone to make their best efforts.
So, for example in our instance - I don't mind you making a beeline for that specific province, and I think you should. Hopefully we will be smart enough to talk to each other so we don't collide =).
And yes, I'd like to say again, I am impressed with the sportsmanship of this group and community.
Again, we haven't heard from RedEyes. Personally, I hope he does choose to continue (so I can beat him in person). If he doesn't then, I'd say game on =).

I couldn't set myself to AI last turn because of my ISP being down last night.
I'm still alive, but nearly all my assets are frozen behind castle walls, it would only be a matter of pressing end-turn for me, and most of my effective forces are dead due to random patrol orders w/o support and otherwise scattered in random provinces.
I was in a good position when my game got corrupted, just taking an enemy fort.
A rollback is a big disruption of gameplay, I can't demand one.
The other option is for me to go AI.

Hey!
Ermor, being at peace with all its neighbors (we think) is pleased to announce that it is now accepting orders for Con-6 items.
Any and all customers will be served on a first come first serve basis.
Now as most probably know, Ermor has weak magic access, with strong access really only in Death and Fire. So special deals will be cut for people providing boosters - especially, air, astral, earth, and most especially *nature*. Essentially if you provide a booster, ermor will *credit* you the cost of the booster towards a crafting *AND* charge you no forging fee, toward the item of your choice.
Ermor is also offering super special pricing on Tree Lord staffs, and will pay great rates for nature gems!
Also - we are interested in buying boots of youth!

This trading interface here is terrible - a pixel off and you can send it to the wrong person - and never know.
Just as a question of sanity - can someone *please* let me know if you got something from me that you weren't expecting?
This isn't the first time - or the fifth time or the sixth time this is happening - so its really driving me crazy - you wonder are people that dishonest (that they lie about receiving it); am I that incompetent that I miss a simple mouse click that often; is there something wrong with the game...? Apart from the firestorm and heat fro mhell, it's interesting to see how poorly your armies fare without a huge swag of blood slaves. Not running out are we? all of those horrors and leeches are pretty expensive when so many of your blood hunters are being taken out, surely?

Don't worry about me, I have plenty of blood slaves to go around, but are you running out of your sacreds? 1 blood slave for 1 burning one is a bit expensive don't you think?
Maybe gold is becoming a problem also? Gold to gold ratio you lost much more than me,
Your army size took a good hit while I still have enough troops to cover 3 fronts,
your sacreds are capital only while mine are not.

May I request an extension? I have (or will have shortly) the current turns in. However, I have been called out of town Wed/Thursday, and so would like a 36 hour extension, delaying any processing on thursday to Fri/sat?
I don't think it actually matters in this game.. but, if by some miracle everyone gets turns in twice in a row in 24 hours.... I'd like to make sure I don't stale ...
Thanks all...

This is just my opinion, but given that this game is moving nowhere and that Starshine is quitting, I vote we end it and declare Executor winner.. I was really happy to fight it out, very interesting game, but Starshine was probably in the next best position to win, and we are playing about a turn a week.
If people don't have the heart there is no point continuing, especially when one player is clearly on top and deserving of a win based on the game to date
That said I will always keep playing until the end if people want to continue

I'd *really* like to not end it. I know I've been responsible for my fair share (and probably then some) of delays recently.
Why don't we all just say - 72 hour turns, and no further delays.
If we stale, we stale - and we all try not to stale.
But we have all put hours and hours and hours into this game...

This is assuming I can find a sub for me, and I've had no luck so far. What say we wait until Sunday and if I can't find a sub by then, we'll declare the game ended?

FakeymcFake will take the position if no one else will. Still, as he is inexperienced with marverni, he would rather a more experienced player take it.

I may need a delay later this week. I am going in for corrective eye surgery (lasik) on Thursday, and am not sure how long until I'm seeing well enough to play. My guess is two days.
I'll play every turn I have available Thursday morning my time (late wed night US), which means nothing will be due for at least a day, but may not be able to play turns then, and even if I can probably shouldn't be staring at a screen.
So, if we can either put a delay in then, or if the admin can keep an eye out and if I haven't got a turn in I'd really appreciate it. Obviously as soon as I'm ok I'll play turns and post.
If for whatever reason I'm not back longer than people are prepared to wait, I'll wear a stale or two - don't think I've vanished and waste time searching for an AI.
If I don't come back for ages please look up a good eye specialist for me because mine obviously hasn't done his job right!
Thanks,
Dragar

With Star's bowing out and in light of Licker's absence Executor and I have agreed to a split victory for Mictlan / Ermor. Dragar has agreed, and we believe that Licker did previously as well.
However, we'll wait 48 hrs for comment from Licker (or anyone), and I will post a message on the game server.

And a whole bunch of new longdead mictlan priests have appeared, not to mention the increase of wealth that is very true. Oh yeah and pale one commanders with fire 4 earth 1 paths, and jade maiden commanders and jaguar commanders.

If there is nothing that can be done about the problems then lets end the game. I can't play with my golems and boars randomly disappearing. I vote we end it and declare Mictlan the winner, he's the only who deserves it. He has been fighting everyone else for a big part of the game.

Up until the point that Star dropped out which was *one* turn ago, I had put together a functioning coalition that had 70% of the terrain in the game. Individually, I control around the same number of Territories, perhaps more. We'd have to count to see.
I have almost all of the artifacts in the game, I have the best astral mage in the game, I have the best communions in the game, the best information in the game and I have an immortal God that can beat almost anything thrown at it. All my important mages are twiceborned.
I outnumber Mictlan in forts more than 2:1, likewise in temples and my income exceeds his by far.
I have the only tartarian factory, (two of them) and I additionally have a tarrasque factory going, with a special summoning site that reduces the cost. And I have had gift of health the entire game to remove their afflictions.
Moreover, we had (and have) and agreement several turns ago that continues to this day declaring a joint victory. The only reason it didn't end previously was Psycho's opposition.
After the last turn, when Psycho opposed the joint victory, Mictlan and I entered into an agreement: We were going to destroy Psycho's nation and then declare a joint victory.
I have never known Executor to break an agreement.
If Executor as the strongest player agreed that its a joint victory, why would you oppose it? Ie, had the game continued, withing 3-4 turns, Marverni would have been destroyed and then the game declared with a joint victory.
Per your previous statement Psycho, the game cannot be declared won or lost without complete consensus by all the players. I agree that Mictlan is individually the strongest player, however, essentially the game was decided by factors outside the game (ie., real life). At the time that occurred, the alliance was gaining territories, gems and items *much* faster than Mictlan was. We were winning.
Regardless: per the previous statements from executor and psycho the game cannot be decided except by consensus and I will not vote for anything except a joint win. And Frankly, I think any objective examination of the game supports that.

Err, I had a lot more going on that you folks thought. Chris, you didn't have the only tart factory, here's a little insight on my Empire.
Almost all the ERoy were in my possession.
I had over 20 civatateos which were raising an army of undead, and on standby for sending as thugs against anyone. (my favorite unit in Dom)
I had about 25 onaquies and was summoning an additional 2 every turn and hence an army of beast bats, over 600 of them.
I had several golems, which were unfortunately waiting for some items before being sent off.
I had some SC spectral mages that are now in TNN's lands waiting to strike.
I had a very large army of mind hunters and horror senders to eliminate any underequiped army.
Was blood hunting in over 20 province and needed gold for nothing other than to buy a capital mage, but I did have a large stash of money to buy troops when needed.
I had some less important artifacts since someone kept forging them the same turn as I, eg. scepter, the chalice, unquenched which got me really mad! But I did menage to get the Aegis doe.
I also had a very large stash of gems and was about to overcast GoH with about 350 nature gems before attacking and cast AC with about 500 slaves.
I planned to cast AN somehow since I had a lot of pearls but didn't quite have the mage for it, so I started summoning Arch devils to get the astal one, and would have given him robe of the magi, astral cap, coin and a ring, and a single empowerment to cast it, and so on...
Oh and my personal favorite pretender so far, Super strong moloch with many artifacts, awe, fear, regen, all immunities, absurdly high att, def, prot, MR and HP.
All in all this is one of my best played games, next to Beer, which was a very similar situation.
I do want this game over, I said I'm good with a shared victory and I honer my word, there are several reasons I wanted this over, numerous bugs in the game, onaquis becoming beast bats, lack of time, losing interest due to fighting everybody in the game, and I did actually fight every single player in the game, but it was mostly lack of interest.
I'd like to congratulate Chris on forming the biggest alliance against me I ever saw.
I felt like Hitler for a while, a stellar start, but than a very slow downfall.

As always, you are an incredible opponent. Next time, I'd rather team with you. There were quite a few things I'd love to boast about my nation - that I can't reveal since I'm saving them for the next time we fight. As usual I learned quite a few things, both about tactics, Mictlan, and EA-Ermor.
I learned quite a bit about map size vis-a-vis each nation. For example: Large maps favor air/astral nations. Large maps diminish importance of dominion. Large maps increase the importance of favorable scales.
I actually love EA-Ermor as a nation. I do not pretend that it is a powerhouse nation - but it is definitly top quarter. And once again I believe that Mictlan, Sauromatia, Ashdod, and maybe niefle are in a category all by them selves.
I'd like to thank Dragar, Star, Cerlin and Licker (who I haven't heard from since) for being great and faithful teammates. Keeping an alliance together is hard work and always subject to constant fear, jockeying for position - but everybody brought a lot to the table. I'd like to thank Cerlin and Psycho for being good sports and picking up positions; even when I didn't see eye to eye with Psycho.
Best wishes to all, And thanks to star for arranging the game.
