Does Hinnom have any uses for death gems beyond shadow brands?

well, in general it has the same uses as anyone else, just less pressing (due to recruitable sc's), and with greater difficulty (due to only having d1).
but some of the blood uniques have death, and that can bump hinnom up into casting good spells... demiliches, say, and forging standards of the dammed. Spectres for a bit of diversity.

You can also empower a D1 in blood, wear some rings, and summon Vampire Lords, if all the Helios are gone.

yeah, well, I think I had 400 death gems saved up by the end of Hellscape ;)
which brings up another use, as I was planning on alchemizing them into astral in order to wish for more blood ...

Aside from Death being easy to bootstrap, Hinnom has access to D3 casters via vampires (who can easily summon demiliches if you want). You won't have a lot of cross-path Death spells like Banefire, but Darkness is an obvious choice for battlefield magic (given the Blood summons), and of course never say no to Manifestation or Ghost Riders.

-Maxwell, hinnom can't summon vampire lords w/out either empowering, or getting one of the two blood uniques w/ death (gorillon the heliophagus, or pazazu the demon lord).

There are 2 Helios with death: a B3D4, and the B3D3 reaper guy.
Empowering a B1 and summoning a Vamp Lord is cheaper (50+44 vs 111) and safer (since you might get the wrong Helio, or they might all be taken).

eh, I like helios... happy to summon some anyways :)
even easier is just summoning a demi lich or a mound fiend. Hinnom has strong astral, and should be getting rings of sorc and wizardry as it is...

Oh yeah. :) I was assuming that Hinnom would be wearing those rings on the B1 guy anyway. Doh.

lol ;p
of course, vampires might be earlier on hinnom's research path; though, if so, death mages are consequently of less import as well.

Hinnom doesn't need death gems. They are OP enough to win without them.
Dawn guards have no place in EA.

I'm AFC, but can't you just empower a Horite in Blood and give him a Ring of Sorcery and a Skull Staff? I thought the vampire spell was B4D3.

Well if you're doing that just for access to death, why not just summon a mound field? ;)

:) Good point. Mound fiend requires D3, right? I thought I was being clever by leveraging blood instead of death gems, but the whole question was "what do you do with a lot of death gems as Hinnom?"
