Little used but great weapons?

I recently started a long campaign with a German infantry focus starting date 8/44. There was a recent post describing how good the Stlgr 42 PAK 38 worked, especially for ambushes. I have been impressed with how well this works. If it wasn't for that post I never would have considered using this particular ATG. I'm thinking that there must be other weapons that are very good but get little notice. I would appreciate any ideas on other weapons to try!

Of course. The endless whining about France 40 and how you must have 88s in every Nazi force to have a chance there.

Nobody seems to have twigged to the little Jagdpanzer 1 in all the years the SP games have been out. Nice and cheap toy to have for that brief period of the war. Aggressive use at under 500m (<200 is better) and don't leave out in LOS (Run away, brave Sir Robin! :)) and its hot little Czech gun will deal Char b1 bis and Matildas a nice headache.

Jagdpanzer I's I would agree are the best choice, 88's are nice to have on a clear day in North Africa well dug in. A Mobile Gun beats towed any day. Especially close to front, this goes for Howitzers, Guns and other ATG's as well. The other thing is Jagdpanzers I's are cheaper to replace.

For close in battles, I've fallen in love with the Russian KV-8s, the ones with sabot ammo for the 47mm main gun, and the FT. I had a defend against late war Romanians, and put a 3 tank platoon of KV-8s into a small hilltop grove of trees, they ate everything, and belched fire. :D I admit, it was the Romanians, but the 47mm was a deathray against anything they fielded, and I think the sabot ammo would have rung a few German bells, too.

I used the KV-8 (or an eariler version of it) in a Stalingrad battle and it came in very, very handy. In addition to the good armour and flame thrower they have more ammo for the flamer (20 as opposed to 4)and the 45mm is goog enough for most of the medium tanks.

I've fallen in love with the Russian 57mm AT pop-gun. Cheap, mobile (movement of 1), accurate, and good enough for most German armour. Everybody probably knows this, it's just new to me.

Nope - nice bit of kit, but only equivalent to a Daimler really. The GE Puma/50L60 and the UK's AEC with the 6 pounder + APDS are probably the best armoured cars (for fighting stuff) IMHO.

Post war, the Saladin of course is my all-time favourite.

Amen! I love using the puma to shoot up US HT and Shermans from the back and side. Next time I run a Germ. camp. I'm upgrading that extra gun APC that comes in some of the mech platoons to a puma as soon as I can.

I have been having a nasty time since France 40 with these Italian SP guns that look like a 75/L27 on a Model T (I'm not at my game, so I can't tell you the technical name for the little nasties.) As its a softskin, the 2 pndr is almost worthless against it. Riflemen and indirect kill them very easily, but they all too often pick off an A-13 or even a Matilda before I find the things. I hate 'em

I am up to Dec 1940 in a LC as the British. I have been having a nasty time since France 40 with these Italian SP guns that look like a 75/L27 on a Model T (I'm not at my game, so I can't tell you the technical name for the little nasties.) As its a softskin, the 2 pndr is almost worthless against it. Riflemen and indirect kill them very easily, but they all too often pick off an A-13 or even a Matilda before I find the things. I hate 'em

Well - that is why I like the UK light tanks and armoured cars with the big 15mm BESA - excellent for inf support with the long range, and for biffing up truck-mounted infantry, ATG, and portee ATG. And they have a co-ax for use at shorter range or when out of big BESA rounds.

I plan to have a 2 tank section of the light tanks assigned to each rifle coy HQ as close support tools. Not for recce.

In my most recent battle last night I used Vickers sections at long range to chew the things up, and Mk-VI light tanks to rush them once they were down a couple of crewmen. That worked out well; all gun trucks killed with no losses.

Careful with that, you'd be tempted to use its speed to separate it from its platoon and thus you'd lower your chance for rally once it gets suppressed.Plus the gun APC isn't there to fight tanks but to fight infantry and APCs.

The Vickers is a very useful toy in the open desert, less so when you get into Europe and the closer terrain, I find.
