Is there somewhere that lists Stats on misfortune that you can compare a fortune teller with?
What I am trying to get at is say you are playeing TC and have a Fortune teller mage with a 5 rating....How much will that offset misfortune 1 in the province it is in?
Do they stack so that if you have 2 it is a total of 10 or is it a one time per province bonus?
I know that AWE 0 is still powerful and that FEAR 15 is REAL powerful, but no where does it say that Misfortune 1 is equal to 10 bad luck and Misfortune 2 is 15 ect.
With that in mind is why I am asking what a fortune teller 5 offsets misfortune.
Geeeez, I hope this makes sense:confused:

Luck scale operates separately from Fortune Telling.
So what happens is, if you took Misfortune, you will still roll lots of bad events. If that bad event gets assigned to a province with Fortune Telling units in it, then you add the FT values together, to get the percentage change to negate the bad event that was going to happen. So if you had 1 unit with 5, then there is a 95% chance that the bad event happens anyways. It's additive, so 5 with 5 apiece would be 75% chance of the event still happening.

It is a bit disturbing. And it used to be animated? Sounds like something an illithid would dream up. You're not an illithid, are you JM?

I think his previous avatar was animated, and then he changed it into the disturbing one.

Well, yes, that's what everybody assumed is the mechanic of fortune tellers. I've had a look at that (http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showthread.php?p=671356#post671356) for finding out how Firebirds and other units like the Lady of Fortune worked and the code for random events during hosting looks like it works differently, to me. The only thing that fortune tellers do, it seems, is to redo rolling a random event if there wasn't found a valid one for the province they're in by 100 tries. What's worse, it seems that this check is wrong and that fortune tellers actually PREVENT the re-rolling of events instead of allowing it to happen. I might very well misunderstand this, though, too.

I think there have been empirical tests that prove that Fortune Telling value of 100 (sum) will prevent all bad events in that province. Fortune tellers don't cause bad events to happen, for sure, and bad events don't only happen with fortune tellers present, either. I think you're missing something there, lch.

Could you provide this empirical evidence? Because it doesn't really make sense to me either. What happens there does look quite strange, too, though.

Those units do not show an ability icon do they? For Fortune Telling, or any other (negative) ability? I'm certain that those units use another mechanic, god knows why.
It was considered common knowledge since I got here that every unit rerolled individually against the bad event, rendering them somewhat less useful than they look. However, someone did perform tests fairly recently that showed that a sum total of (100) Fortune Telling was 100% effective.
And I love this baby. You people just fear what you don't understand. He's my beautiful baby 8 eyed boy. He's special. <3

Fortune Teller and stacking (http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showthread.php?t=36514)

LA Ulm has fortune tellers (10), I took scales dom 10, turmoil 3, misfortune 3. Once I had 10 fortune tellers, I did not get any unlucky events, only lucky ones. I ran it for 3 years after I got to 10 fortune tellers.
I remember this because I didn't think it works that way, and did a quick test myself, with same results.

Yes, I've had a bit of schooling on Luck and Fortunetelling myself...
Also, JimMorrison, that new avatar makes me nauseous. Please change it to something else. I don't want to /ignore you simply due to a picture (and I'm serious in its physical effect on me).

Thanks. It's true that their power is added together, the combined power of units in the province with the fortune teller ability (for the nation in question) is being used by the game. I might look into this again later to understand how it works exactly.
