Hi everybody

I have some questions :

-Does an old undead commander can get a disease?

-If I try to break a siege and at the same time attack the sieged province from another province, will my two armies be together?

Thank you!

1) Undead commanders can get a disease, but they suffer no effects from it, IIRC.

2) I'm 90% certain that the answer is 'yes'.

For what it is worth: VedalkenBear is right on both points.

Yeah both are true.

One thing to note is that the reverse is not true for storming. So if you set one army to Storm a castle and move another army into that province, they will not assist in the storm attempt.

Also bear in mind, if the enemy sees you with a large army adjacent to the castle, he may send a small contingent (a single commander or scout set to Move instead of Sneak can work) towards your army that turn, as there is a chance the combat occurs in the other province, and your Break Siege force will do so without their intended support. It's very evil. 8 \

Yeah, but its also useful to do so, or leave one commander not storming.

That way, you will still be sieging the castle if you fail to take it.

Here's another one for you :

If I cast rain of toads on a province where there is a dome of flaming death, if my caster has a ring of fire protection, will he gets hurt?

Thank you

He won't get hurt, so using a ring of fire protection is a good plan.

I'm now envisioning a rain of flaming toads.

I know that's not how it works, but it should be.

Flaming Toad Rain! Brilliant. I'll make a mod for it now.

Hi

Few more questions for you,

Let's imagine that I'm playing EA Mictlan. Fighting abyssia, I try to build SCs. I've tried Arch devils (AD) and Ice devils (ID), but I have problems to equip them properly. Let's imagine I have researched construction 6, and have as many gems as I want, and that I have mages with all magic paths.

I usually give my devils this kind of stuff : chain mail of displacement or robe of shadow, boots of quickness (AD)/boots of fly (ID), lucky coin, fire helmet (ID)/spirit helmet (AD) or Horror Helmet (AD), ring of regeneration / amulet of resilience / amulette of antimagic (since blindness hurts a lot...). I usually use fire/frost brands, sometimes faithful.

But with this stuff, they are not as effective as I want them to be. Is there a problem with the items I use? Or is there a perfect combinaison of items which makes these demons deadly?

I've searched the forum but I have not found answers to these specific questions.

Thank you, and sorry for my bad english.

You want to read Baalz's guide for a good intro:

Thugs should be able to wipe out PD and small, mageless armies on their own or otherwise used several at a time against major opposition. SCs should be able to take on big armies alone. The archdevil might be borderline thug-SC territory, but an Ice Devil is certainly just a thug. Don't expect either to be massively effective.

Why aren't they as useful as you expect? Are they dying? Not killing enough troops?

EA Mictlan has turkeys to fly in with your devils and cast Body Eth and Luck on them, so Eth/Luck items can be skipped.

Ice Devils have Cold Power which sucks in hot provinces, so cast Wolven Winter first if you need to use them.

Arch Devils (buff with Phoenix Pyre):
Frost Brand
Vine Shield
Starshine Cap (for MR)
Jade Armor (might be hard for you to forge this)
Messenger Boots
Regen Ring
Antimagic Ammy

Ice Devils (buff with Personal Quickness, Breath of Winter)
Frost Brand
Vine Shield
Dragon Helm
Fire Plate
Winged Shoes
Regen Ring
Reinvig Ammy

Of course, make adjustments for the individual characteristics of the devils (FR etc.)

Thank you!

@Agema : Yes they take too much damage. But it's better now as I'm using them as thugs instead of SCs.

@vfb : thank you, I'll try this. And these devils would be more thugs or SCs?

You seem to be on a roll, so I have another question:rolleyes::

Does the siege bonus (for example of a siege golem or from items) is useful for defending castles?

No. There is a separate defense bonus. LA Ulm has troops with it.

EDIT: So, I already got complaints about my suggestion of Fire Shield since the enemy listed is Aby. Yes, I did realize that. However the OP mentions the use of Fire Brands. My assumption is that he is not fighting solely Aby nationals...

Thank you!

The unique devils should not be used as thugs, they are too good/expensive. Maybe Ice Devils, but not Arch Devils certainly. Thugging is for things like Bane Lords who are cheap and have no magic.

If you are having problems with survivability, the things you want to focus on are Luck and Protection. I'm amazed that Fire Shield was not mentioned already but you should cast that and it will boost your damage output way up and remove the need for quickness. What specifically are you having problems with?

Well against Abysia, #1 priority will be 100% Fire Resist, so you want -some- combination of those items or you're dead meat, that's for sure.

There is a huge tradeoff here though. Arch Devils will be far safer in combat against Abysians, but they don't have many avenues to actually do damage, other than their direct attacks.

Switching to Ice Devils, you will have a hard time getting enough FR, and still having the gear you want otherwise. However, if you can build them out with a Rime Hauberk, and casting Breath of Winter, you can really wreak a lot of havoc on the enemy lines. But it's very true, in such a case you will want Nahualli escorting them, laying down Astral buffs on them to enhance your gearing options. Also, you'll probably want them at least operating in pairs - it will dramatically increase survivability - unless you are just raiding PD or mopping up smaller forces with them, and can risk them solo.

Another nice thing about building Fire Resistant Ice Devils, is that you can attach 10 or more Frost Fiends to them, and your Devil is immune to their ranged attack, but it can be devastating to enemies, especially Abysians.
