Ulmish Civil War
llamachris banners.
Victory: 3 capitals held 3 turns, or 50 vp.
Rules: Each faction will be named after an Ulmish count (aka Player).
A. *no diplomacy game*. Purely mano-a-mano, no holds bared vampiric fury. Ie., please no coordinating with other players, no trading. This is a game to test the might of your ideas, not the suaveness of your social skills =)
B. No fort on VP province.
Ok. Things I didn't do: I didn't restrict pretenders. And I gave ulm a 25% production bonus - can some one tell me what the LA-Ulm bonus is?
Also, you are going to have to rename the mods to whatever llama requires.

Oooh a slightly strange game.. sign me up. That is if you don't mind having someone who's likely to get beaten fairly quick...
Ooh and I would have thought a bit of diplomatic manuevering would be thematic, but hey its your game and I'm happy either way.

Grudgebringer - I think you should expect a lot of magic, most especially lots of vampires. LA Ulm is quite different to MA!
Having said that this sounds like a lot of fun. Sadly, llama is busy. :(

The pike change is certainly not one I'm particularly attached to- you have certainly presented a convincing argument that something needs to be done, either scaling back the change or adjusting other weapons. I was under the impression most the recent cb changes were pretty uncontroversial, so if you have other issues please bring them up in the cb thread. Even if I don't respond immediately, I always go over the thread carefully before releasing a new version.

One thing though, all the CB versions are confusing people quite a lot, so I'd appreciate it if you called any tangential mods by some unrelated name (though whatever part of CB you wish to use you are welcome too).

I'm having some problems with the mod. While cCBM is clearly in the mod folder along with all the other mods I use the game claims I haven't got it installed.

Check the actual name; when there is an error message it will tell you "xxx" not installed.
Rename the ccbm.dm to xxx.dm - and it should solve your problem. The module was renamed on Llama's server to avoid confusion.
On separate matters - I was called out of town suddenly, I brought the cd to install, so I may be able to get my turns in on time; otherwise there will be a slight delay.
Let me know if you need more time to resolve this matter.

Error!
Turns out we should have tested more. When Laveare asked about Sanguine Heritage - I added it. I should have looked to see if there were more. There are. 4 More to be precise which I should have caught.
Attached is the corrected ulm.dm.
Game is paused until llama can unload and load new version. In the meantime.. please all check and make sure you have ALL ulmish spells. 5 in total
The current file only replaces the .dm - thanks.

Houston, we have a problem.
If you start a new game, the new mod seems to work ok. I can research and cast the ulm national spells.
However, in the current game, while I can research them - none of my casters are able to cast them.
You guys have been champs -what would you like to do?

Hey pyg,
I looked at your code and I really appreciate the way you knocked it out.
I'm think it won't work for our game however, and I know there is a small problem generically.
Each spell needs to have a unique name - you can't have two spells call "Test" for example.
And you cannot add more than 3 restricteds, in order to add additional nations to have a spell. So while using restricted nations 72, 73, 74 etc will work for us in a 3 player game, it wouldn't work in a 6 player game.
This is why I suggested adopting the customization
%1 = Player Name (or nation)
then after the #newspell, #copyspell #name "%%1 {Original Spell Name}"
That way works for any number of nations.....

I want to report a violation of the rules of the game.
It was ... me!
50 Lashes with a wet noodle.
Tolkien was adjacent to one of my vacant territories - he did not attack it. I remembered the first turn, but forgot the second and asked him if we were at peace.
And he very properly reminded me this is a no diplomacy game.
So, the infraction was slight - the answer was deducible by his actions.
So applauds to tolkien, wet lashes to me. I think I"ll have to rename my game folder - no diplomacy.

I am sad to report that I'm going to have to go and delay the game abit. I'll be gone Thursday Afternoon-Sunday Afternoon, being preoccupied at JHUMUNC. If you can change the turn time to 48hrs and no quickhost for those few days, I won't need a sub.
EDIT: But the non-aggression still holds. :p

Well you're going to have to postpone the game come the Friday-Sunday round. Without the quickhost currently, it would mean I'd have to send in the turn at 3AM (EST) on Sunday, and I know I can't make that. The soonest I'll be able to get access to a computer would be 22GMT Sunday. If we finished the turn on Thursday (morning or afternoon), I'll be able to send in a turn file before I leave and it should be fine otherwise.

There's also the F4W4 version of the staff, which is probably easier to reach considering there are more boosters to get up there (Robe of the Sea+Ring of the Sea+Ring of Wizardry+Skull of Fire gets you to F4W4). Then all you need is A2 to get into Air Boosters.

Dude! laughing you were supposed to replace the .dm file ages ago. Thats why we had a pause.
Scroll back the instructions are there - and it does work. Make the modification and you will have them in the next turn.
Buy the way: Has anyone gotten a national hero. I have luck+3 and usually by now I'd have several - but I've not seen one.

I redownloaded the whole mod again, though I still haven't gotten my uniques back ( :( ), besides for Sanguine Heritage (which when I cast it, says it's for Dedas).
Perhaps I'm missing the link to the .dm file?

Ok.. try this in order:
Unload the mod.
quit dominions
delete the mod
Download it
Unzip it
Replace mod.
start dominions.
Next turn, you should have your spells back.

Anyway, tolkien - the mod at the head of this thread *is* wrong. I have no idea how, since we all used it to get started again.

I haven't actually attacked anyone in this game, except they attacked me first.
I probably should have gotten tolkien to rescind or clarify what he said earlier - but as I haven't attacked anyone before now it hasn't mattered before now.
Still, I'd like to know what to expect.

THIS turn I invaded. Being an ND game, I didn't think the NAP was going to be binding. If it wasn't, I would've notified you a few turns ago, 3 or 4.
Besides, I'm tired of sitting on my hands and building up blood slaves. I want to use them. :(

Scouting isn't an act of war, however you attacked last round as well.
I feel a little disadvantaged; I wish you had clarified earlier. So I have now been attacked by all 3 players with no notice = ).
Fair enough, I shall do my best - although the advantage of surprise and two big militaries against me.. I will have to be a nelson to win this.
Ah well.. let loose the dogs of war!

Because the advantages provided by 3 globals and a several advanced field armies aren't enough? :D
The following is not diplomacy. :angel
Remember I trail at third in most graphs apart from the giant chaff armies. However I'm obviously no speed bump and invading me at this point would be a very bad move, because any party that attempted this (with or without the aid of a theoretical thrid party) would then be left weakened facing said third party.
Obviously I notice that the same applies to certain parties and see that hostilaties agaisnt such parties would be detrimental before some theoretical third parties are marginalised, through seperate but cohesive action on multiple fronts.
Oh and in regard to the indiscriminate weapon I am using. Realise that it is intended to a) Prevent the use of the same by theoretical third parties b) Destroy key components in the advanced armies of theoretical third parties c) Deal little damage to certain economies like say blood hunting and the use thereof.

My millitary isn't that big at all: it's rather small compared to Mithras'. It's just concentrated on your border and my border forts. Mostly you're just going to have to worry about blood SCs dropping in on you and my magic, I got 300 slaves stored up and ready to go.

Hope you don't mind the astral corruption Tolkien, been watching you a bit and it seems you don't use nearly as many non blood slaves as chris, and I had a few slaves to burn. Oh and sorry about the misfiring wild hunt, it still hasn't netted me any of chris' nice battle priests yet... (although I did get one of his blood mages which is odd because I'm sure the spell said powerfful priests, oh well.)

Guys I have found 2 bugs in this game: I'm not getting generic summons. And Province pd is not working right.
I don't propose to stop the game.. but ....

So here is what I found after careful inspection:
Issue: A
#defmult defaults to 20
however, I don't think the #defmult1b works at all and needs to be specified.
How this shows up in the game: I bought a bunch of PD- the second unit in the PD is supposed to be villains. I didn't get any.
So we've either got a game bug or a module bug - and I'd rather believe it was module.
Issue: B
No one has gotten the any heros - because there is a syntax error in the #heros command.
I've corrected the .dm (in the first post.) The only file that needs replacing is the UlmCivil...dm
Don't do it until llama notifies us that the server is patched. I've sent him an email.

But no, now that we *all* know that PD is half as strong as it should be and why, I'm willing to continue a little while until llama can fix the issue, presuming you both are.

I'm experiencing minor technical difficulties which will stop me from getting turns in and, because I'm bone idle, it may take some time to fix. I am in a half decent postion (even if I'm last in the significant score graphs) and seeing I just put a few annoying globals up I would apreciate it if you found a sub for me... I don't think I'll have the time to put an advert up so sorry about the bother.
I really enjoyed this game, its a pity I'm probably going to miss getting crushed by chris... thanks.

Well that was a terrible turn for me. I didn't kit out Father Illearth well at all and now you've enslaved him. I even called forth the Abomination of Desolation (by pure luck) and you paralyzed him.
I'm almost willing to throw in the towel...but I still have a few tricks up my sleeve.

OK! Everyone update to the last version of ulmxxx.dm Alex has fixed it on llama.
this will have the lines in it

hero2
hero3....
whereas the old one left off the 1, 2,3.
Also, update your battle scripts. I changed the name of the spells from BlackChris' Blizzard .. to just Blizzard. Etc.
And PD's will now be the correct (stronger) strength.

Doh, I caught an error on the new .dm.
At least I caught it before we ran. Only three players may use the same spell name. So we are back to different spell names.
SM Taking, SM Blizzard, SM darts etc.
Again this *will* mess up your battle scripts. I have postponed the game but will ask llama to host it whenever he has updated his copy.
I'd like to assure Fakey, this hasn't been the average of our game. While we are trying something new, we have gone many many turns between problems.
So check to make sure your ulm spells have a 2 letter abbreviation before their name.

this will almost guaranteed fix it:
make a new saved games folder.
download turn into (yes, must download)
run from there.
Check it out and let me know. If the problem persists absolutlely we can roll back.
However, I am 90% sure this will fix it. Has happened to me several times.

Oh.. I'm just recycling it waiting for comment, fakey. I've never actually done the turn as it takes like 12 hours at this point.
The last comment from tolkien was he wanted 24 hours for debate.
And as near as I can tell, no turn has been uploaded by anyone since then, and no comment.
I'll submit a turn before I leave on the trip. I'll set the host delay. If turns stale out after that, I'll declare the game finished....

Ok..I've spoken with both the remaining players and the consensus opinion is to concede the game with a BlackChris victory.
I'll leave this open if someone changes their mind overnight and otherwise end it first thing tomorrow.

Though I didn't get to launch my offensive with my giant massed army down South. I had a massive communion at the ready with Relief, Fog Warriors, Darkness, Rush of Strength, Army of Lead, Will of the Fates, and Antimagic (and whatever else I'm forgeting). I wanted to see how my massive army of vampires, demons, guardians, and chaff would do.

In any event, good game. Your expansion was miles ahead of everyone elses. I'd rather wait a turn or two to see how my army would fare, but in any event, you're the most likely winner.
