View Full Version : Wishlist Item transfer improvement

This came up on the IRC channel today, and it is actually something I had meant to bring up previously.

I would LOVE it if the item transfer screen (the one you get when you click on an item that's on a commander) listed the lab at the top of the list as opposed to the bottom. This makes a lot of sense since it is the most common destination for items, as well as taking it away from the dreaded "throw item away" line in the interface.

I believe this would be a pretty easy "upgrade" for the devs to implement, and would definitely cut down on the time I spend on mm.

Thanks!

I TOTALLY agree.
Both on the saving of MM, and the dreaded "throw item away".

While we are at it, a list of transactions buttons, where you could see each turns messages (aka transfers of money and items) would also be critical.

Yes, this does seem like it would be an easy upgrade, and most useful. Hope the Devs take notice.

It's been requested sometime in the past, but nothing came of that. So don't expect too much. Doesn't hurt to ask. The lab being right next to Mr. Unlimited Itemslots aka Commander Throw It Away always has me in a cold sweat when moving valuable items into the lab.

I think I did have to redo a couple of MP turns from scratch because I erroneously misclicked by some pixels and threw away an item. It's no fun to redo the same stuff that you spent some hours on... :) So yeah, I think the feature request is highly regarded as useful.

I wholeheartedly agree.

If they ever make a rehaul of the interface, drag&drop would probably be an improvement. As for now, this does sound reasonable. I have more than once accidently thrown away artifacts :(

Maybe the "Throw item Away" could be its own little button off to the side? Since I have no real programming experience I feel fully in my right to suggest things like that :D

Isnt drag&drop a windows thing?
Im not sure Ive ever seen it in a linux game.

Actually, it's a Mac thing, it comes from Apple (who bought it from the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center). And has been adopted by Microsoft, just like they adopted many other things from the Macintosh.

I doubt that we'll see drag and drop in Dominions, too, though.

No, but it'd be nice to be able to just quickly assign magic items to a bunch of units without having to enter the inventory of each one.

That sounds like something for Dom4 though, rather than for a patch :P

There are alot of windowsy things that get asked for. But unless it works for all the systems the game is for, its unlikely.

Keep in mind, this isnt a Windows game that linux people can play.
Its a Linux game that is ported over to windows and mac os-x

I don't think you can call drag-and-drop "Windowsy". It's a basic part of (almost?) all modern OSes.

On the other hand I believe Illwinter dislike working on the GUI (and who can blame them?), so that's definitely a dom4 thing.

I like that 2 commanders in a non-lab province and can't trade, for example, helmets. Apparently magic items can't touch the ground. Like flags.

On the GUI, you mean. I, for one, welcome the Illwinter operating system where there will be a "Nagot gick fel screen of death" instead of a BSOD and Doom Horrors will take control of your Desktop when you have installed too many things without looking again.

Also, I have once again to remind you that there are no official plans to get a Dom4 game from Illwinter. At all. The "secret project" thing has always been mentioned as being "something else" - from the time that Dom3 has been released, even.

Also, I'm sorry cleveland, but I really can't give you any more rep, you have already used up the allotted volume long ago. LOL! :D

Are you defining Linux GUI-wise as Motif or something equally 80s?

Yes, on the GUI, sorry.

it would also be lovely if you could get gems/ slaves back from mercs on the same turn you gave them to them, although I suspect its too much trouble... foer some reason I always accidentally transfer gems to mercs, maybe if they werent the default trading partner, by having lower ID's?

* Hovering over an equipped item and pressing 'l' sends it directly to the lab.

Ahaha not only did the devs just own you, they just made the whole thing at least a few steps faster while doing it.
