View Full Version : Missing Area SAMs

I'm at a point where I can select my support units for a PBEM campaign. As part of the selection, I took some area SAMs. When I get to the deploy screen, they are on my unit list, but are not on the map. Just to make sure I wasn't nuts, I set up a battle with between the same countries and the same date. When I select area SAMs in that case, they show up to be deployed.
Game Version: v4.00-CD
Battle Type: PBEM Campaign, Meeting Engagement
Date: March, 2009
P1: Greece
P2: Italy
Password: Will PM Password
Standard OOB
The situation can't be saved as is since it won't allow me to save after selecting my support units, but before I complete my deploy. It is easily recreated with the instructions below.
With the save attached, buy one SAM battery from ARTILLERY>SAM Battery. There are two types there, but it doesn't matter since both are affected. Click DONE and go to HUMAN DEPLOY. Neither type shows up on the deploy screen, but they can be found on the roster.

For now go to the HQ list and it shows there, select it from there.
DRG, any ETA on the next patch? also, any idea if current games will still be playable with the patch?

Thanks Don.
I tried doing a search before I posted it, but I guess I used the wrong keywords. When I tried some different ones, I found the posts on the problem. The funny thing is, it's my PBEM opponent who reported the problem first :)

They're always VERY careful to make sure patches are compatable with existing scenarios and any games using non-modified OOB's.
That's 90% of the fun I'm having with the little project I've been working on for over a year now :)

The next patch will be released hopefully in the next month or so but I don't have an exact date yet.
If by current games you mean PBEM the answer is always "only if you're very, very lucky". My rough notes of completed OOB changes if printed out would be 98 pages and the list of items still left to do is 13 more so you figure the chances current PBEM games won't fail if you install the patch mid game. 35 scenarios or campaign game files have been redone so far due to OOB changes

Thank you for the answer. I have heard it is possible to install the game in more than one locations at the same time so I guess I will do that just to be safe.
Keep up the good work. :)

That's right, Wdll - I keep a separate Install just for PBEM, so I can keep the one for solo play slap up to date. It's also useful if you wish to play with modified OOBs etc.
It's easy-peasy to do: pop the CD in again to install, but simply re-name the Directory to winspmbtA, or 'PBEM or whatever - et voila! (You'll have to apply the various Patches again, though: not forgetting to re-name the pathway for the patches...)

Or you can just use the easy method and create a copy of the game folder. That way you don't have to install the patches again. I've got four different copies of the game currently.

Didn't know you could do that, Koh - cheers!

The are actually there, but "invisible". You can select them from the HQ list and place them. If you need to move them, you just have to click on the "empty" hex where they are and you will see you have selected it. Once the battle starts, the "invisibility" wears off and they can be seen.

Cloaking Devices who says this game can't model modern tech
