Howdy,
New to the game and liking it much. However I'm having a problem that must be me. Playing a friend in PBEM. I'm playing Germans in 1977. I'd like to buy transports for various units like the HQ which starts off as a 6 man unit. I have to buy a truck or APC seperatly. The problem I've noticed is the only way I can load units onto transports is if they are in the same platoon.

Example:

Headquarters is platoon A0. Buy a Fuchs and it's Platoon B0. You can't load the HeadQ into the Fuchs. You can't use the "Assign Current Unit to a New HQ" button as it tells you the Fuchs is a HQ. Grab a Marder, say K4, from a PzGrenadiers platoon K and use the ACUtaNHQ for the HeadQ. Now HeadQ is A0 and the Marder is now A1 from the previous designation of K4. Now you can load the HeadQ into the Marder.

So is there a way to reasign the "0" unit of a platoon to another platoon? Is there a way to buy transports and have them show up in the platoon they are for? Am I missing something dumb?

You don't need to do any of the above to load any unit to any vehicle (that can load them).

In deployment phase just click on the unit (say infantry unit), then click on the load button or hit the keu L then click on the APC/truck/etc.
The same can take place during the battle, but you have to have the units share the same spot/hex. To do that, move one unit to the same hex by holding the SHIFT key and clicking on the destination.

In a campaign or scenario - assign a non-platoon command unit (truck or APC, or a changed unit) to the A formation.

Yes the load platoon feature is a nice time saver, but sometimes the single unit is better especially if it matters which squad or section you want in certain vehicles. EG: you might want a scout in the lead vehicle. The Load Platoon feature doesn't real care which units go where as long as there is room, including at times filling up three APC's let's say and leaving the last empty. So one should pay attention to these details.
Have Fun and go get some!!!

Thanks Wdll!!!!

So may just be a bug but I was using the "load all units in same hex" button. This was causing all my frustration. For whatever reason that button won't let you load a unit unless it belongs to the same platoon. I hit the load then clicked on a vehicle and worked like a charm. Thanks much!

That is because the load all routines only work for units and transports in the same platoon.

.....and that's what it was designed to do so therefore NOT a "bug".

I'll make a note to check how this is written up in the game guide

Yes, the feature works very well, just be a bit careful.
Oh and placing you HQ in a APC is an extra good idea, one of the best. I just always love it! when the enemy does it.

Wdll,your sooo bad;)
@purdune
But actually,as long as you remember to disembark the HQ before hitting the end turn button, having HQ with transport works very well for rally purposes and getting them out of harm's way.
EDIT:
and always keep your HQ far back they ain't frontline troops!

Unlike other units I've commanded, this HQ was in the rear area and was hit by an EF2000 airstrike!:hurt:

If the PBEM opponent loses his HQ, is it battle over? (campaign game)

Thank you Andy,
so the destruction of said HQ will only be a prestige victory for me and nothing special. Pity (in this case...lol)
