OK, here it is.

Attached to this post are the Mission # 1 Files. It contains the 2 WinSPMBT files and a copy of the Operations Order (which is also posted below). The end date for the Battle will be April 30. If everyone gets done earlier, we can proceed to Mission #2 sooner.

For those participating, download the attachment and PM me for the zip file password.

Please refer to the Rules thread for the playing process you need to follow.

Good luck! ;)

Reconnaissance in Force at Cachrov

Warsaw Pact vs Nato

Location: Cachrov, Czechoslovakia
Date: August 4, 1986
Turns: 30

Scenario Size: Medium

GAME FILES: SpSv020.cmt and SpSv020.dat
SAVE GAME NAME: MRB(BTR) Camp (5) AUG86

DATE/TIME
040530ZAUG86

TERRAIN AND WEATHER
Terrain is very hilly with scattered tree cover. Weather is clear and warm. The sun is just starting to rise and visibility is about 1500 meters. For purposes of this battle, North is the top of the map.

___OPERATIONS ORDER

1.__SITUATION:
The Warsaw Pact has renewed their offensive against NATO. Soviet and Czechoslovakian forces are expected to be working together in this theater of operations. Directly to your front, contact has been lost with the Regimental Recon force. Their last communications indicated they were under heavy attack from French forces, then all radio transmissions ceased just before midnight. We are sure that these French forces are continuing their advance to the North to blunt the Regiments attack. All fixed wing aircraft are currently involved in achieving air superiority and are not expected to be in a position to provide ground support for your mission. The Regimental Commander has allocated 2 Battery's (12 tubes) of 122mm Artillery to your command and your Battalion FO will have priority of fire from these units. __a. Enemy Forces:
Intelligence estimates that you will be facing the leading elements of the French Expeditionary Force. These forces can be expected to probe your positions looking to exploit any holes in they can find in the Cachrov area as well as pin your Battalion down so that the rest of their force can bypass your positions and hit the Regiment in the flank. Expected units will most likely be Motorized Infantry supported by Tanks and Artillery. Enemy Anti-Tank Teams should be flagged as priority targets as they are serious threat to the continued mobility of your forces.

__b. Friendly Forces:
3rd MRB (BTR) Reinforced, 146th MRR, 48th MRD

__c. Attachments/Detachments:
2x Med Artillery Battery (122mm D-74 FG) x12 tubes
2.__MISSION:
On your right flank, concentrate on the recon, clearing and occupation of the village of Brezi. Once secured push forward and recon the villages of Cachrov and Brodne. On the left flank, set up defensive positions along the Ostrunza River and once established, push a small force forward to secure the village of Zahradka. Maintain a continuous front line without any gaps that may allow the enemy to slip through and attack your rear areas.

3.__EXECUTION:
3rd MRB (BTR) will advance into the Cachrov sector and establish defensive positions. Once these have been established, probe further to the South to engage and defeat the leading enemy forces. No Air support is available at this time.

4.__SERVICE SUPPORT:
Refuel and rearming will be conducted once the mission is declared complete.

5.__COMMAND AND SIGNAL:
As Commander of 3rd Battalion, you are in charge of the operation. Radio silence should be observed at all times.

If you guys that are playing this can post periodic updates, that will help me with knowing how fast I need to work out and write up the details for the next mission. I don't need details, just what turn you are on. ;)

HQ was in an APC behind the front lines in a clearing closed in by buildings.

French cluster artillery landed one hex over---->>> BOOM

Double Deuce hasn't said yet,but I may be toast.

In a standard AI campaign if you lose your HQ it's all over.

It's not working out like I hoped it would.

The plan was to use photobucket to store the images and link them to an AAR thread, but the forum will not accept the files. to big.

So that basically leaves using zipped images which I really don't like. I'd rather you can see the image as you look at the page.

Is there some other way I'm missing?

Are you already using jpeg / png?

If so, try turning up the compression, for most uses a jpeg quality of 70 - 80 is more than enough. If detail is required, crop the image and save with higher quality.

Yes, I had several people IM me that they wanted to jump so I extended the rounds time frame but only 1 or 2 have finished the battle and sent me the files. I thinks its 5 now. I have all the results in a spreadsheet, just need to post them.

Realised I still had the saves 25-30 something.
Skirmishers idea of posting pictures got me thinking so tried & because saved at the end of my turn as per instructions the replay captures the whole game.
So you can either load each one for an end of turn sit rep or if you are bored hit replay & watch the entire battle from turn 2.
Just allow for the fact smoke placed during the turn is already shown on the map as it starts.
It all started with me placing a large smoke screen on turn 1 & moving fast to spring a surprise on the French.
Seem to remember central battle was textbook sticking to the plan but I got a bit of a surprise & had to do a hasty retreat at the bottom of the map as slightly outgunned for a while so a troops vs armour battle went on there.
Only lasted 8 or so turns got very brutal at times & if I had managed to get units in central woods hill area in action faster would have been even better. LOS problems meant they were a bit late to the party & had to be careful of enemy armour as advanced.

By 25-30 something meant those slots 8 or 9 saves starting on page 2 of saves

I can't find the spreadsheet

Just improvise the situation. Results not as important as the
act of playing it out. I don't think we even got results from the last time.

I can only speak about the first scenario, but the map was excellent, and the battle was fun.

There is time to join the tournament?
If the answer is yes: We should save every turn in a different slot?
Which version to play this tournament?
Greetings

GreetingsHaven't started it back up yet and it will likely be something very different by the time I start. I am considering stealing some of the format from Wulfir's Dynamic Campaign system for this new campaign.

Anything I do would use the latest version of either game. Right now the focus is leaning towards using winSPWW2 and the 1930 era at least for a test run.

You can see an overview here: Player vs AI Tournament (Actually a Campaign) (http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showthread.php?t=47265)

1930's? then count me in!

You might add a post on the Blitz, when you get it hammered out;)
