View Full Version : Why can't I summon Fire Elementals?

I have an Augur Eldar with F3 and 4 fire gems in his possession. I have him the orders Fire Resistance + 4x Summon Fire Elemental. Yet in battle he only carries out the first order (I realise now I can only summon one as the second summon would raise his fatigue above 200 and render the Eldar unconcious) and then proceeds to do his own thing.

Why?

Opposition isn't sufficient to use gems on?

Actually he should be able to (and probably will) use extra gems to reduce his fatigue.
My guess is he would use all 4 gems to summon 2 elementals.

Yeah, mages only use gems if the opposition is judged sufficiently fearsome.

Ah, I thought the order queue overrode independent thought. OK, thanks.

No, not quite! This is a feature you'll find yourself both loving and hating. Sometimes it can be infuriating, but on the other hand it is very pleasing that when your army encounters a scout they don't waste gems casting a load of massive buffs and so forth.

I read the thread title, and thought, "because it's just a game!". :re:

I've actually been summoning fire elementals in my backyard... I just can't seem to keep them alive very long before they either turn into a regular mound of fire or quickly shrink to nothing. Upon opening this thread I was hoping to find some answers, but no luck.

I'm sure others here are having more luck than me and will post some suggestions.

Fire elementals are kind of meh. They have their uses, but most of the time I would not bother with them. Against cold-blooded nationals they are good.

Why against cold-bloodeds?

Fire elementals are great. I have used them to kill an unsuspecting SC many times. It's the multiple forms and AoE attack that makes them so good.

Seconded. Elementals are a great way to put down unsuspecting thugs/SCs. Fire/Ice elementals will fatigue out opponents without full resistance, Earth elementals can trample those who rely too heavily on armor, and Air Elementals can interfere with those who need their full buff cycle to be effective. They also let you quickly convert your research mages into thug repellant. If you are expecting a raid (say 20 Cloud-trapeezing Sidhe), you can give gems to all your research mages and have them spread out to cover all your provinces until the thugs learn their lesson.

Sorry, I appear to have become dyslexic there.
