View Full Version : Use of Weapons - New MA game (Started)

I've been meaning to start a game for a while, and here it is!
Age: MA
Players:6
Map:Six Lands (http://dom3maps.wikidot.com/system:sixlands)
Mods: CBM 1.41
Experience: Any
Settings: Renaming on, sites 50, otherwise default
Victory: Hold 4/6 Capitals
Other Rules: Land nations only. Ashdod is not allowed since I feel it is currently disproportionately powerful. Diplomacy is normal - breaking NAPs is frowned upon but not banned; trades are to be honoured.
Hosting: Llamaserver; 24h quickhost for as long as possible. Note: Extensions will not be granted for the first 20 turns. I want this to be a fast moving game. Please do not sign up if you will not be able to stick to 24h hosting for at least 20.
The idea of this game is a small, fast moving quasi blitz, which should hopefully provide a fun experience for all involved!
Players signed up:
Cicadian - Shinuyama
Lavaere - Man
kenotur - Abysia
Mithras - Pythium
sansanjuan - Jotunheim
Shuma - Tien Chi

Hmm, actually I´ll sign off.
I think I need to wait a bit more before joining another game. I´m starting to realize how time consuming the turns become after a while, excuse a newbie.

Ok I've put the game up on llamaserver. Try to get your pretenders in as quickly as you can :)

Any game named after an Iain Banks book is a worthy game to me. It's too bad I am in too many as of now to join.

Yeah Iain Banks is great :)
So, looks like we are just waiting on Shuma to submit his pretender then we can start.

Please get your pretender in. I want this to be a fast-paced game.

It should be sent, but maybe I made a mistake in sending or something. If there is still a problem, let me know and I will drop out.
Cicadian
April 30th, 2009, 12:05 PM
It's not showing up as received on the llamaserver.
Make sure you have sent an email to pretenders@llamaserver.net with the file attached and Use_of_Weapons in the subject line.

The server should let you know in 5 minutes if it went in. Below is the full FAQ.
-ssj
BTW I've botched 50% of my pretender send ins.. missing/extra mods, wrong game name, etc.
Firstly, you should only join a game if you've found there's a thread for it on this board, you've read it, and they're still looking for players. Then you should post on the thread saying what nation you'll be. To actually join the game:
- Make sure you have the same mods enabled as the game you're playing in (Preferences->Mod Preferences) although only mods affecting pretender design, such as Conceptual Balance, actually matter
- Go to Game Tools -> Create a pretender god in Dominions. Don't set a password, since for PBEM games they're not helpful and occasionally annoying (e.g. if you need a sub)
- Go to the savedgames/newlords folder in the dominions directory, and find your pretender file (e.g. mid_pythium_0.2h)
- E-mail the file to: pretenders[ at ]llamaserver[ dot ]net
- Crucially, you must have the game name in the subject line of your e-mail
A few minutes later you should get a confirmation e-mail, and if you check the website you should find your nation added to the list of nations which have joined the game.
If later you think of an improvement to your pretender, you can send it in again. Provided the game hasn't actually started the server will accept your revised pretender, and send you an e-mail to say so.

Looks like I sent it in with a bad subject line. Use of Weapons instead of Use_of_Weapons. I hope it works now. Sorry for the delay.

Thanks, and good luck to those who remain!

You started it! :P
Seriously though, I dunno whats causing your unrest issues. It could be:
1) Random events. Most of the negative events have unrest as a side effect, including curses, barbarian attacks, plagues etc.
2) Someone is targeting you with unrest causing rituals, eg raging hearts, rain of toads, blight, etc.
3) Someone is using spies against you. I'm not sure who that would be though, since I believe Man is the only nation left with spy-capable units.

Abysia appears to have staled 3 times in a row. I've postponed hosting and PMed ketonur. If he hasn't responded in 12 hours I will post looking for a sub. Hopefully it shouldn't be too difficult to get one as Absyia seems to be in a decently strong position.

The peaceful Jotuns and their warm, empathetic, and often misunderstood bone fields, are only reacting to internal terror fermented by the hot blooded Abysians. The charcoaled remains of our beloved finger puppeteer "Wimsy" after his production of "Some Like it Hot" in the Jotun capital was a signal that peace with the Abyssians could not last.

I postpoed the turn for 12 hours anyway before I went to bed, seeing as noone had submitted at that time.
Unless there are any objections I'm going to go ahead and set 48h hosting from now on.

The once mighty Jotun war machine lies in disarray.
Their high command, fearful of assassins and betrayal, cower in their camps, unable to properly lead their troops. The western horde, conquerors of Tien Chi, is no more, annihilated outside the gates of Abysia in a desperate last stand by the fiery soldiers and mages of the capitol. The eastern horde, composed of fresh infidel woodsmen and horrendous bone fiends are without direction, their commanders slain in their cups. The Abysian castle they had so quickly taken is now their prison, and attempts to dislodge the warders will be dear.
Abysia has been ravaged, but now She is roused. And She will have vengeance.

I'd like to request a 12hr delay... this is probably going to happen regularly on tuesday nights :o
Shouldnt be for too much longer, I think the winner is going to be either Pythium or Shinuyama now - Jotun's latest desperate gamble to relieve his trapped leaderless army has failed from the looks of the turn I just glanced through.
Hmm... Do you still pay upkeep for them I wonder...?

Yup, it was mainly due to bad luck that your invasion failed. I think looming hell took out one of your skratti buffers for our first major battle, and well... the second major battle just never took place. I definitely have a newfound respect for blood magic now though!

I knew my only hope was to hit hard and fast. With Drain 3 my uber bless was becoming less and less effective with each passing turn. At some point a bless can be completely countered by a couple mages with a couple gems. In hindsight I should have held off on attacking Abyssia and pressed my feeble research towards "Illwinter".
When I do find my self on the downward spiral I find it is a good time to set small goals and pull out the stops. For fun I actually empowered a Bane Lord with Astral. Even with MR 24 he eventually fell to a soul slay communion. His body guard giants fulfilled their purpose of absorbing the Astral barrage so he could get his MR up. Unfortunately he routed instead of attacking when his fodder died. :(
I was happy to take out the Angel. Wasn't sure if it was the bone fiends or a lucky shot from the bowmen in the back.

The angels were poorly equiped and scripted, I learned a lesson there. And yes, giant body guards were a good idea but you fell foul of the 75% hp rule, if you had had more similiar banelords I'd have been in trouble.

Can we put this game out of its misery? As Shinuyama has staled the last 11 turns and I'm hardly in the position to contest Pythium's supremacy I'd like to concede the game to Mithras.
