I've just experienced a strange GR case in ComfortZone MP game. 33 horsemen had no WL with them, and just disappeared in several turns without taking any action. Visible opposition — 1 point of PD.

A scout moving to take the province afterwards faced the same one point of PD.

Could have been killed off by a mind hunt or (posssibly?) an assassin spell before the battle, any chance either of those could have happened?

I don't think that's possible for remote attack spells.
Are they even there before the battle?

Yes.

It's just like teleports\magic battles. A mage who teleported appears in the province just after it and thus can be a target of remote attack that occurs after teleport.

How large game? It is entirely possible to hit the 9k commander limit before hitting the 140k unit limit, though Micah's explanation makes more sense. a debug log might help things.

I doubt it's the limit case, cause all the other summons and GRs were successful.
Some lines from the log:
damage 9999 on Longdead Horseman, spec0x0 ba0 — that's how they disappear.
Overkill for player 24 (462 vs 54) — I don't know what it means, but #24 is Special Monsters.
10319 striking with weapon Light Lance. att20 def25
10319 striking with weapon Hoof. att15 def16 — It looks that some of the last remaining horsemen actually took some action when PD reached them (no moving though).
And Micah's theory really makes sense. I don't know who might have launched assassination spells on some empty useless province, but if it's possible — that makes the trivia case. Protecting your blood-hunters from raiders with high-id high-penetration mindhunters looks much better than using domes.

As unsurprising as ever, Micah is correct once again with a game mechanic.
I am 'The Other Player' from the battle in the original post, and I did indeed cast MindHunt on my own province. Partly to root out spies, and partly because I suspected a Ghost Riders attack, and knew that this tactic could be used to help defend against such rituals. Obviously it worked this time.
Wouldn't normally post this while the game is still going, but the war has long since been over, so thought it would be best to clear up confusion rather than keep my tactics hidden.
.... I don't know who might have launched assassination spells on some empty useless province
It has sentimental value to me :) It's also all I have left :(

Thank you for explanation. It's always amazing to learn a new trick (:
Btw, speaking about strange rituals, is it you who have been casting multiple VotDs on one of my 33MR commanders for about 8 turns? This is another mystery in this game for me.

I think there's a fair chance that Mr.Gaap has been getting some VotD attention from me now and again :)

Gaap the Ice Devil belongs logically into Jotunheims frozen realm. He's therefor under my close observation. :smirk:
MR 33, eh? Natural 18, Armor of Souls 5, Starshine Skullcap 2, Antimagic Amulet 4, Lead Shield 4?
Hm. I should intensify those efforts.

Probably Amon Hotep or Mage Bane. Both add +5, IIRC.
