I know Illwinter is working on their new game, but I haven't heard any news or updates on how they are doing or the overall progress of the new game.

If Illwinter is reading this topic... Any chance we could have a monthly developer journal?
A few(5) sentences with a screenshot would be very kool and would increase word of mouth for the new game.

Also will the next Dominions patch include the highly desired early age Machaka? ( You know the one with good province defense. ;) )

Can you direct me to any information about a new Illwinter game? This is the first I've heard of it.

Thanks

There's essentially no information.
We know there are no plans for Dominions 4, because the developers are working on something else.
Other than it not being Dominions, they've given very few hints to what it might be.

There isn't any to be had. We know they are working on something, and that's it. Even the beta testing group has no idea. I have had a lot of contact with Illwinter and I'm as much in the dark as everyone else. Though to be honest, I haven't asked since it's none of my business unless they choose to ask me to make it so.

We have been quite busy with the new game, so Dominions development has been very sparse. The new game is progressing nicely though, but it is still secret what it is. Probably partly because we are to lazy keep any webpage up to date and the game is changing quite a lot.

It's a dinner party repartee simulator. You play an angry wasp and must defeat various others with scathing put downs and arch comments before the courses conclude. I suspect the boss fight will involve the how can she slap meme.

Dominions FPS! You get to play a Firbolg sniper with a Black Bow of Botulf, and your targets are the various Pretender Gods....

They could tell you but then they would after shoot you!

But only with the black bow of Botulf, so your feebleminded and when the games released will heal you with the chalice so you can buy/enjoy the new game.

Dominions of Heroes! Illwinter teams up with Relic Entertainment and brings Dominions to real time! /mild fantasy

Well at least we can tell by Johan's post that we're not all just speculating in a void...

Isn't it supposed to be a fantasy mixture of RPG and strategy with more focus on SP?

Aha! So it IS a game and not a rocket-powered go-kart. Looking forward to it when it's ready.

I think it's supposed to be a fantasy mixture of real-time strategy, the Sims, and Minesweeper, but set in the Dominions-verse. You play a lonely Crone who's looking to found her own religion, but you have to steer clear of the Bog Beasts. Then, just when you're about to finish the game, some jerk casts Burden of Time, and you only have thirty seconds left before you die of old age!

Omg, the speculation begins. Surely, something as momentous as the next game from the creators of Dominions cannot possibly be kept secret very long?

they've been doing pretty well on the secret stakes for a long time.. it's the advantage of a 2 man company, very few leak sources and it's pretty easy to identify who the leak is if it isn't you :)

I'm excited to hear what they're working on, but it looks like Dom3 will keep me satisfied until then. Great game!

actually, it's going to be a new immersive MMORPG called World of Dominions. It will be carefully crafted to require you to spend a lot of time doing meaningless things such as travelling from place to place to ensure that you do not progress too quickly through the game, and thus complete and get bored with the content. This is because said content will consist solely of grinding on the same set of 50 or so monsters just with different colors that simply random walk with some set bounds.

However, due to the fact that our modern society has essentially socialized most people into a "daily grind", the banal and second-job like characteristics of this new game will prove to be a familiar setting for most, and it will become a sort of wildly popular social networking ecosystem, even attracting an over representative number (given that its a game on the internet, and everyone knows there's no girls on the internet) of female players.

Ha, I bet it's a MUD.

The only real problem with your theory is that you've just described every single MMORPG. Ever. So ... you know ... there's nothing new there. ;)

Now, how would JK & KO add that special "Dominions" flavor to an MMORPG? Blood slaves? Bog beasts? Random barbarian attacks? Bogus & Friends?

We should make it clear that only Illwinter staff or Shrapnel staff can give real answers.

But if I were to guess then Id try to take note of some shifts that seemed to happen in the focus over the time of Dom3's development. Im thinking either a Dom3 in Space (for Kristoffer). Or a more Super Combatant first-person hero version with massive modding to the level of almost being a C-robots game of player-created combatants (for Johan). Or maybe a Heroes in Space.
IMHO of course.

Where has KO given any indication in dom3 that he's interested in space? The only thing I can think of is the lovecraftian stuff which is a very minor part of dom3.

Bogus & Friends?Ooh, there's an idea: a (non-MMO) CRPG where the player controls Bogus' adventuring party as they go about liberating blood slaves and overthrowing oppressive local rulers, etc.

Not so much here but in other forums and interviews. But mostly for the huge unlimited ability to create new creatures and effects which I think he would greatly enjoy.
