View Full Version : Appeal: Help with cost of new LlamaServer

As some of you may remember, the computer that the LlamaServer runs on blew up some time last year. Since then, the LlamaServer has been running on, ahem, a computer at my university department.
However, I'll be graduating soon and so I need to get a new computer for it to run on. I've found a suitable one available for £260. I'm obviously quite happy to put the time in for switching all the software across again, and my brother has kindly offered to have the computer sit in his office (since next year I won't have as ridiculously good a net connection as I have had this last three years). If people can help with the cost of the new computer though I really would be hugely appreciative.
I have ingeniously created a Pledgie page that's easy to donate to, here: http://pledgie.com/campaigns/4985.

I would like to kick in a little for this (does $10 or so sound good?), now that I'm playing MP. How does it work? You're not going to use my credit card number at Ikea now, are you? ;)
Of course I meant 10 Zimbabwean dollars :D
Ha ha, I will kick in real cash (I know it's going to a good cause) if I know how, and I know it's secure.

Thanks Llama, pledged - and you have a standing offer of some Anchor Steams should your travels ever take you to San Francisco!

Thanks very much guys!
TwoBits - if you go to the pledgie link I give in the first post, I think it's fairly self-explanatory from there. You can donate by giving your card details to PayPal, which I think is about as secure as they come.
DC - what's an Anchor Steam? I've hardly been to the US (five days in Boston last December), but I hope to visit properly some time.

Its the local brew here (http://www.anchorbrewing.com/). Been around since 1896, which is old for us :)

As I have mentioned before, I am not real computer savvy and don't have a Pay-Pal account.
I would like to contribute $50.00 American but don't know how to get it to you. If someone can tell me a way, without having to join something I know nothing about it will be on its way this evening.
I don't know what that equates to in Euro's or whatever monetary unit you happen to use.
You can PM me with any info and I am happy to help.

Actually having looked through the paying process it looks a little uninviting if you're not a Paypal member. However, you do *not* need to be a member of Paypal, nor to join. Where it asks you to log in, there's a bit on the left where it says "Don't have a Paypal account?" - you can just click "Continue" just below that and simply enter your card details. Ignore the username/password windows it keeps on putting on the right hand side of the screen.

Llama,
Should be at your goal now. Thanks again for providing this service (and Gandalf too).

You met your goal, but hardware can fail and coders need beer to fuel their skills. Let's try to double that goal...

We may have made the goal, but with other expenses and perhaps a little toy that llama has wanted to make this better....
Lets try and keep the pledges coming, it can only make this sight better.
Llama has demonstrated time and time agian that personal profit isn't a consideration and if nothing else we can bank some money for future 'problems'.
My company has donated another $50.00 American (approx 30 pounds) that should arrive By the end of the week,
Ten here and 10 there and we have a fund that will ensure that we are never down for long.
C'mon Guys......

Wow!!! All done in about 12 hours! That really is amazing. It really goes to show what an amazing community this is. Thanks so much to everyone who donated so generously (and quickly!).
There's no need to donate any more towards the cost of the new server. Obviously I would still appreciate it if you are keen to do so (I never quite covered the cost of the old server, and it might be wise for example to buy a spare hard disk), but basically this is a WIN. I've ordered the new computer so hopefully it will be all set up in time for a seamless transition.

I can still donate beer when you are in Poland :)
BTW, don't you have a pile of unanswered PMs? About llamaserver too? [hint, hint] :)

I'm aware of one from you about Setsumi that I haven't gotten around to... any others? I tend to lose track a bit.
