EA Ryleh for me.
Also, I think CPCS would be a great addition.
Frozen Lama
June 29th, 2009, 12:26 AM
Having never used CPCS before, I'm hesitant to add it, but if a couple other players want it, i will.

Wait, why no LA Rlyeh? Don't want to have to deal with their toxic dominion? Its not like they're any stronger than MA Rlyeh, who can use most of the same tricks.
But I'd be happy to try one of the Oceania - no preference, so if someone else really cares, i'll take the other one.
Frozen Lama
June 29th, 2009, 01:09 AM
Well i'm pretty flexable here, if several players agree that LA ryleh won't unbalance the game, i'll go for it, but i think their still OP for this game.
We'll be lucky to find someone who wants to be MA oceania, so i'm guessing you'll be them

What makes LA Rlyeh more OP than MA Rlyeh? I thought the perception that LA Rlyeh was overpowered was due to its status as the only LA power native to water. That advantage really doesn't exist in this game.

thats not hard - its a timeconsuming form of suicide....
Septimius Severus
June 30th, 2009, 03:19 AM
I like the concept and the map and might consider taking on the suicidal role of either EA or MA Atlantis if LA R'lyeh is not made available.
What will the hosting intervals look like? As I tend to need rather more relaxed intervals. Two games at once is like my maximum, but this could be one of them.
Frozen Lama
June 30th, 2009, 09:44 AM
Well, normally i like 24h for quite a while, until people really need longer, but i'm flexible when it comes to delays and such. I have no set intervals, I'll just extend the timer when people seem to need it.

I'll take on the challenge of MA Atlantis. I think they're quite a bit underrated ;)

Thank you stattis, i agree, they are underrated having played them before, they are pretty powerful.
hopefully septimus will get back to us soon, or someone else will materialize to take EA.

Since this looks like it'll probably be ready to go pretty soon, I will note that the upcoming weekend is a holiday weekend in the US. So if we get started before the weekend there will probably need to be an delay right away.
Frozen Lama
June 30th, 2009, 02:57 PM
You are correct, thanks for pointing that out. Just tell me if you need the delay. I'm not going away for the 4th, so i can easily make sure people don't stale.
Septimius Severus
July 1st, 2009, 01:28 AM
I don't know if I'd be able to make the 24h without a few stales, there are occasions when I don't have access/chance to get to a computer for more than 24 hours, even though I do want a chance to learn more about water nations. So go without me if you need to.

I'm interested in this game, but I have a couple concerns. One is the 20+ provinces per player... I promised myself I wouldn't join any more like that after preponderance. The other is the game turning into a clam-fest- I'd highly recommend using a mod effecting gem gen items (my preferred solution to them is making them unique items).
Frozen Lama
July 1st, 2009, 09:47 AM
QM- I agree with you completely, but unfortunatly i have zero experience in modding at all. never even opened up the modding manual. If there is a mod out there to make them unique, i'm all for it. also, this map seemed to be the only one designed for all water nations. if you know of a better one, feel free to show me, and we can change. thanks

It's pretty simple. Here's the code you need:
#selectitem "Clam of Pearls"
#constlevel 8
#end
#selectitem "Fever Fetish"
#constlevel 8
#end
#selectitem "Blood Stone"
#constlevel 8

I don't know of any smaller total-water maps, but there is the random map generator.
As burnsaber says, the anti-hoarding mod is really easy, in fact I already made it for pasha's RAND game. I'll attach it to this post.

That and a map with 10 provs per player and I'd be onboard.
the Vanishag
July 1st, 2009, 07:31 PM
If Quantum Mechanic doesn't want it, I'm willing to give it a go. As EA Atlantis is expected to get its *** handed to it on a silver platter, I figure I can't be worse than nothing. A "balancing" element could be to give EA Atlantis a starting location close to land, as their main advantage is being fully amphibious.
Never mind... unless you decide to add LA R'lyeh back in, in which case I'll take it. :)
quantum_mechani

Actually I think it would be perfectly reasonable to have LA Ry'leh. MA Ry'leh is arguably the better of the two, chaff can only make up so much for being unable to afford mages...

Just to sure I'm not stealing Quantum Mechanic's slot, I want to say that, if you (QM) decide that the map (e.g. 20+ provinces/ player) is ok, EA Atlantis is yours. You have "dibs." :D

I will be away starting late tomorrow night until sometime sunday. That said, I can probably get a pretender in tomorrow if everything is set up to receive it, but I'd want first turn to be due monday (hope to submit it sunday, but you never know).
When you figure out what all the mods are, can you make sure to have links to all of them in the first post? I know I have some but not all of them. Thanks.

Chock this up to my total lack of experience using any mod but CBM, but am i supposed to be able to load mods from the preferences screen? The only option it gives me is CBM 1.5 - i don't see Single Age, Banners, or the gem fix. Help?

I received a pretender file from you, but unfortunately your pretender file is for Early Age Oceania, while the game 'WaterTotalWar' is set in the Middle Age. Please try again with a pretender for the Middle Age.
But the problem is that when I created the pretender for EA Oceania with the singlemod age, it is saved under the file early:Oceania_0.2h

Ugh. It seems that my epic screw-up while I tried creating the Cripple_Fight still haunt me.
The Single-Age mod you have isn't the real deal. It's just my confused attempt. What you need to do is to set the game to single-age in the game-creation screen (use the slider you use to choose era for the game). You don't specifically need to enable a single-age mod to do this (in fact, it mess the thing up).
I'm now going to bug llamabeast into removing that piece of my shame from llamaserver..

It seems that someone has been given a land province as a starting location. Unless I'm badly mistaken, this is crippling for any of these nations - we may have to restart (possibly assigning rather than randomizing start provinces).
the Vanishag
July 3rd, 2009, 01:41 PM
FrozenLama, did you update the .map (text) file to refer to the new .tga (image) file's name? The map shouldn't work at all without a correct .map, but I'm not entirely sure (I've only modded nations - .mod files - so far).
It seems to me like the .map file should prohibit land starting locations - I know that can be done somehow, but again, I haven't done any map modding).
In case that's the problem, I've attached a fixed copy of the .map file (an easy fix) - I didn't see anything in the file that specificed water capitals only, but I didn't look too close and, though the scripting format is the same for .mod and .map files, the commands are different.
Frozen Lama
July 3rd, 2009, 03:47 PM
Ok i'm *extremely* confused....
the Vanishag- I have no clue what you mean.. did you get a land start? I've made several test games on the map and never started on land.
If some modding needs to be done, I'm useless. I know a lot about playing Dominions, but i know nothing, absolutely nothing about modding maps, nations, anything.
i downloaded your attachment, and then changed the names of my old version to not include spaces and now i have 2 copies of the map, and the game works just fine for me.
sorry about this, but i'm at a loss for what you mean?

llamabeast
July 3rd, 2009, 07:03 PM
KietSensei - see my post a few posts up.
Vanishag - I also don't know what you mean. I renamed the tga file, and altered the copy of the .map file on the server to point to the renamed file. Your .map files are irrelevant, and are not even used - only the host needs the .map file (which allows for secret setups). All of this should have nothing at all to do with land starts. Did you start on land?
the Vanishag
July 3rd, 2009, 07:13 PM
I'm ok, but other players' capitals are shown on the map (with a crown), and there is a crown on province 88, a land province... but maybe I'm wrong.:dk:
Frozen Lama
July 3rd, 2009, 08:03 PM
No, the crowns have nothing to do with capitals. just make sure you rename the .map file without spaces, and we should be all good.

I'd like some feedback from the other players as to if they are willing to put the game on hold for the 9 days we are gone. if everyone is against it, Trumanator can try to find a sub, and my friend will play MA r'yleh, but someone else will need to take over the admin of this game at least temporarily.

Its really too bad your vacation isn't like 2 weeks later or I'd second the motion...
I'm getting married at the end of July, with a honeymoon to follow in early august. I have a friend I could pass my turns off to during the honeymoon, and I figure that's probably what I end up doing - wasn't going to ask the game to be delayed for that. Assuming I can't find some way to bring the game with me to Wales... (no, my fiancee would kill me). Its 10 days - i figure I'll miss 5 turns since we'll probably be up to ~2 days/turn of hosting time at that point.
So consider this a public service announcement rather than a request for a delay.

May it please the assembled lords, the capricorns send their greetings and make the following announcements.
To our peers the esteemed Lords of Water World:
Keldanor of EA Oceania
Dweller in the Deep of Ea Atlantis
Vizier Khilbron of EA R'lyeh
Frozen Lama of MA R'lyeh
and with especial attention to the boorish and rude pretender of MA Atlantis, Erik.
Let it be known to the nations of Water World that MA Atlantis has refused to see our envoys for an entire month. As such, we must assume their silence represents an aggressive intent towards us and our people.
Let it be known that we will therefore consider ourselves at war with MA Atlantis until such time as they speak with us and an understanding is reached.
Let it be known that we will also be displeased with any nation which actively offers aid to our presumed enemy, and the measure of our response to such provocation shall be based on the extent of our displeasure.
The capricorns rule an honorable nation, and nations we feel have offended us will be given notice and allowed to correct their ways, either in public or in private as it suits our purposes. Failure to acknowledge our envoys will be treated as a hostile response and will not be tolerated.
Let it be known that the barbaric nation of MA Atlantis has until the current month ends to respond to our envoys or we will have no choice but to give free reign to our generals. We consider this a fair and just warning of the consequences their current actions merit.
Thus speaks the wisdom of the Capricorns.

On the "Resend turn" screen of the llamaserver, the nations are ordered as.....
1 2
3 4
5 6
etc.
With the order relating to how they are listed on the status page.
So for this game the nations playing are listed as,
1.Atlantis
2.Oceania
3.R'lyeh
4.Atlantis
5.Oceania
6.R'lyeh
meaning a turn resend for MA Oceania appears in position 5 on the resend screen (assuming of course the nations are ordered in a EA-MA-LA order, which they usually are on the llamaserver for All-Era games).
I think the llamaserver just had a hiccup yesterday and forgot to send out a load of turn files (I was missing two).

Quicker and easier to goto the turn resend page on the llamaserver status page and ask for a turn file resend.
Think a few people are not automatically getting turn files for their llamaserver games right now. I know I'm having to request resends for most of my games.
I'm guessing it's just that 'time of the month' for the llamaserver. Which is easily forgiven due to the llamaservers otherwise all-round awesomeness.

Hello all! Just a quick announcement.
I'm just about to update the UWGEM mod you are using at the moment. So if any of you have any opinions (too poweful, too weak?) concerning the changes by the mod, you should post in the mod thread so that I can fix them. See the link in my sig.
As a recap, here are the changes that affect your game:
- Amulet of the Fish only 5 water gems (no air, like in vanilla)
- Underwater equipment (turtle armor, amber armor, shell armor, etc..) made cheaper in resources.
- Kelp Fortress now an uncommon site.

There is an unearthly glow in the deeps, as lava vents are struck open, and strange skyfallen ores are thrust into the boiling heat to quicken. The productivity of the seasmiths, guided by the Kings of the Deep, grows beyond our own needs.
EA Atlantis is proud to offer dwarven hammers for sale: 400 gold each, or trade for Robes of Shadows.

Ok, I asked by PM but i seriously need a delay on the current turn until i can get briefed on what the hell is going on. I don't even know if I'm at war with anyone at present. Give me 12 hours but i'll try to submit the turn as soon as I have a clue?

The capricorns have returned from their seclusion, and thank the regent for his efforts on our behalf.
We find ourselves in a stranger position than we left. We apologize for the Wild Hunt, although it entertains us given the geography of the world, and the frozen oceans only heighten our entertainment. Unfortunately, we are not currently capable of removing the enchantment, so despite our remorse at having so troubled some of our dearest allies, the enchantment will remain for the present.
(I have no idea how many gems are invested in it, but I imagine its minimal, if anyone is sufficiently motivated to want it dispelled).

Haha the wild hunt... One of my mermaid mage has been slain by the Hunt while he was walking in a forest trying to find mushroom for a potion. Now if you could just send me the head of your wizard who casted this enchantment, I would appreciate that ;)

Talk to the regent? Seriously, its about the oddest global choice i could imagine in this game. And I can imagine some pretty odd choices. (Frozen Seas is fairly strange, come to think about it.)

Hi, folks. I'm going out of town this weekend and will not have Internet access Saturday or Sunday. I should be able to get in any turns that are ready on Friday (Aug. 21st), but if it's not in by 22:00 GMT, it's not coming. After that, if the next turn could be pushed back to Monday (the 24th) at about the same time (22:00 GMT) I should be fine.
Thanks and sorry.

Arrgh, I completely forgot to postpone the turn, many apologies to The Vanishag.
In other news, EA R'lyeh is basically finished. I will fight to the end, but I no longer expect to be able to fight off my attackers. This game has surprised me with its systematic pattern of ganking. First MA R'lyeh, then MA Atlantis, now EA R'lyeh. At this point, I am fully expecting a victory for MA Oceania, as they have managed to suffer as little as possible in all their wars, while leveraging D magic to the hilt. It would probably be best if someone would step forward now to suceed me as admin when I go down.

The game is starting to require a lot of micromanagement so if everyone is ok I would like to change the quickhost to 48h. I am starting to have trouble doing my turn every day :(

Re: Kietsensei - Actually, i had ~500 of them when you went to war with me. Thank you for freeing up my cash for things other than upkeep!
i don't know what happened, but your QoW should have only ended up fighting mild PD in Grandfather. Stupid army not moving with the mages. I'm lucky the mages dealt with the PD around your castle, or that could have been a disaster.
Also, how did you arrange it so that my PD attacked you rather than you attacking my PD in Silent Ocean (133)? That's just bizarre.
Anyway, just 1.5 mega armies to finish off... and then some QoWs, who are obnoxiously hard to kill (seriously, 46hp/trn regeneration? I call shenanigans). Don't worry, my tarts are coming for you... slowly... (This map is so obnoxious without teleport/cloud trapeze/gateway).
Huh? You mean that you see both of them as indies?
Call it an educated guess. I certainly see one of them, and there's another 5-territory land area that I'm guessing has the other one in the center. When or if my spies (or armies) ever get there, i'll let you know.
Otherwise, EA Oceania or EA Atlantis could probably confirm.

Oye Oye people of the oceans!
Everyone shall rejoice and celebrate this day. One of the main army of the Capricorns has been defeated during the siege of MA R'lyeh. More than 300 troops of the evil empire including their leader, a monstruous iron dragon has been slaughtered. The proud knights of the deep are now patrolling the ocean to kill the few survivors who fled the battlefield.
On another side of the war, Achilles the tartarian spirit has been killed on the battlefield after an epic duel against Celephais, the prophet of Keldanor. He is the first tartarian to fell and more will follow his path!

Eh, I think i'm getting bored of how stupidly good KotD are and how pointless anything i do is. I definitely made some mistakes last turn, like casting Army of the Dead on your pretender's province thinking i'd cut off a possible escape route after he moved to MA Rlyeh... oh yeah, what's that order of actions again?
I mean, oh yay, you killed like 200 ichthycentaurs... and...? Whatever. I'll just rebuild them in like 2 turns.
Also, why do i always lose races to summon QoWs?

Actually the last QoW is bugged like you have witnessed that. She come with a permanent ice incased effet on her :re: So even if she is still here you can say that you permanently disabled her from the game ;) At least I know that it will be very difficult to kill her with 40 protection and 80% regen...

Well, I'm still sucking it up - two golems & equip gone, though the 1st one was only lost because of the turn limit. I'm chalking this entire game up to a learning experience.
I'm thinking that this map might be worth another try, perhaps as a no-diplomacy game.

Can we extend the turn by 24h? I'm not going to be able to finish my turn tonight, and won't have time tomorrow to spend on it.
So many targets, so little time...
-----------
Ew, no diplomacy.
Also, i think the map has far too many provinces/player with only 6 players, and possibly even with 7. ~90 provinces would be ideal, and thats not too much bigger than the size of *my* nation. And the Kings of Elemental Earth being on the map is pretty lame.
Kietsensei
September 20th, 2009, 03:54 AM
I agree with Squirelloid on the size of the map. And not being able to send those two lovely kings in the ocean to bash some Ichtycentaurs' head is kinda sad :(
Diplomacy is what make MP different from SP and I cannot think of playing a game without diplomacy. It is one of the funniest aspect of this kind of game!

Oceania hopes the other Oceania enjoys their feebleminded god. Also, thanks for the phat lootz.
And don't think being momentarily deprived of those globals is a big hit to MA Oceania's power. I have several hundred earth gems and astral gems just waiting for good uses. Not to mention a fair pile of most other gem types.

I am really disgusted of that bad luck. Feebleminded after one single heart attack when you have more than 200hp and 50% frost resist...
Otherwise, my god would have escaped as he was scripted to cast returning.
The plan was almost perfect. At least I managed to kill your god as well and even if you still have a lot of gems, you will not earn as much as before.
To the nation of the Aboleth and atlantis, take advantage of this situation and let's put and end to the Ichtycentaurs' tyranny!

Eh, you were lucky you managed to get through my domes as it was. (One of them seems to have gone away though, which confuses me since the caster is very much alive...). That and my pretender shouldn't have even been there since he was casting teleport. Must have forgotten about a dome of mine somewhere...
Edit: Also, i'll just cast them again in a few turns when my god is back. H3 priests ftw.

Ok, so i've submitted turn 70 at this point.
Quite honestly, despite the death of my pretender, I believe i'm in a stronger position than I was 6 turns ago. (I've also killed 2 other pretenders in the last 2 turns, which helps mitigate that loss a great deal.)
So, we said we'd play to turn 70 and see how it looks. So how does it look?
(If we do keep playing, well, i'm like 3 turns from finishing all the relevant research for this game, so all my mages are about to become combatants or forgers - not that i don't have like 20 dedicated forge monkeys as it is).

My principle endgame stratagems have fallen apart, due in part to Squirreloid's excellent play and in part to my own newb errors.
