View Full Version : Possible to buy CDKeys?

Please accept my apology if this has been asked before. I did try searching and Googling first, but perhaps my google-fu is weak this weekend.

Here's the situation. I have recently purchased a copy of Dominions 3 and have really been enjoying the game. I was showing it to my friend last night and he was very interested in playing it.

Now I know that you can't purchase the game electronically and I understand the reasons for that. However, I was wondering if it was possible to purchase extra CDKeys? I would like to be able to play this game with my friends on a LAN legitimately and don't mind buying multiple copies, but I only need one disc and as we'd like to play this weekend, I don't want to wait for extra CD keys to be shipped to me :)

Is there any way for me to buy additional keys?

Sorry, no. You'll have to hotseat it this weekend.

That's too bad! Thank you for the quick response, though :)

you could buy someone else's copy privately, and he could give you the cd key in time.

I don't have a spare copy - few would - but that should be perfectly legal.

you could also both just d/l the demo and play a short (turn limited to 40 iirc) blitz just to get him familiarized.

however, I would warn against buying a copy on ebay or suchlike, as there have certainly been instances in the past where the buyer got a pirated and hence bad key.

I seem to remember that you can play a MP with a demo and full game, do I remember correct? I think I am pretty sure I did play MP on my LAN with my friend having the full game and I was playing with the demo version (so that I would be limited by the choices), but perhaps I remember wrong and we both were using the demo. Anyway, the demo is nice for some introductory LAN blitzes in my opinion :)

yes, you can play MP w/ a full game and a demo, but the demo is a _much_ older patch version, so you would need to reinstall the full, and have it patched to the appropriate level... easier just to run another copy of the demo :)

And you couldn't play for very many turns - not an ideal solution really I think.

Wasn't it 20 turns? Quite ok for a quick blitz on a small map, quite enough to hook those who get interested in the game :)

I believe it's 40 turns. I almost always had time for an Imprisoned pretender to wake up.
