Hi.
I've searched the forum but couldn't find an answer.
I'm beginning a game with marignon MA. I've recruited a bunch of flagellants and the all get afflictions, without even fighting. There is only one opponent in the game and i have not seen him yet. So I wonder WHY do the afflictions appear like that?
Thank you for reading.

Flagellants have afflictions built in. They start with them.

OK Thank you very much.

Other question about afflictions:
in the same game, i build Grand Masters in my capitol. They do exclusively Research (maybe not the best strategy)
THEY TOO GET AFFLICTIONS. I don't understand why, because they don't fight.
Would it be due to their old age?

Thank you

Yes. You can try creating your nation with growth scales to cut down on old age afflictions.

Marignons mages start with old age. An old age unit every winter has a chance to gain an incurable affliction.

As vfb mentioned, increasing the growth scale can cut down the rate of affliction.

You can also make the units *not* be old, by empowering them in nature. This will increase the age that old age starts at by around 5 years - and in some cases will stop them from being old.

There are also some items which stop aging - boots of youth or elixir of life.

If all of that is too much, I think I removed old age on some of marignons units in my BalanceAge mod, located here: http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showthread.php?t=43566

I think N empowerment is 1/2 base lifespan per point, so way more than 5 years. Haven't checked into it much, since it's not at all cost effective. (living mages only)

Well, I've done it a couple of times.. and I got 5 years. Plus, if they have nature, you can add nature items.

The same principle works for other creatures.. I just don't recall what paths you have to add. Is it earth for constructs, death for undead?

You could always empower in blood and have them cut back on their age.

In my experience, this is exactly how it works with random magic picks and adding Nature magic to your pretender (like the crone). It's been many months since I empowered anyone in Nature, but I seem to recall the +"1/2 base" being consistent when empowering.

Aging mechanics are explained in the FAQ. It's always one half of base maxage added to the total per point of relevant magic. E.g. humans have a maxage of 50, so with one level of Nature magic, old age starts at 75. N2 at 100 etc.
