Playing mid 50s so went for 3 rifle Co & 1 Support Co, Support & one rifle have trucks plus 4 Heavy trucks available as needed. A platoon of tanks & assault guns along with a Co of RCL jeeps & 15 arty pieces mainly mortars are there to give an assist.
Now heres my goof most of the the stuff in trucks was supposed to be my reaction force placed so they could move to assist either company, forgot completly how lame 2WD trucks are crossing fields it will be over before they get there.
Shoot the commander one Co dying while the others shake their fillings out going nowhere:doh:

I forgot to place units a few times (years ago) didn't notice till the games got going.
Only thing they might have been good for is defending an airborne drop.
For me this can only happen on a very large map with way to many troops, so my misplaced units didn't actually effect the game much.
Chances of it happening in the present close to nill.

My most common mistake is forgetting to buy ammo. Nothing like having batteries and batteries of MLRS and Apaches and no ammo.

How about doing a defensive battle and forgeting to buy any mines with your support points?

I don't even remember last time I played a defensive battle. Oh wait, I do, like a year ago, and I didn't :D .
Still it showed to the opponent the power of the recoiless portable guns :) I killed like 30 Leo 1s and APCs with them. :)

Even worse is when you miss when you're trying to select a unit because you're going too fast, instead causing your currently selected unit to drive over there, usually leading to some OPFOR lighting it up with a missile or twelve.
It also makes you feel inadequate because you CAN'T EVEN CLICK CORRECTLY

A mistake i do too often is to forget to modify/lower a lot the range of recon troops and any squad i am trying to infiltrate in a place.

Nothing better than having your soldiers to open fire on their own in your opponent turn at 500m, missing obviously and by doing this giving away their position so your intent of a backside sneaky strategy is totally destroyed.

I like sniper teams. I like to place two snipers in a single hex, but sometimes I click, and the sniper does anything to avoid buddying up with his fellow sniper. Into the road he goes, and I grumble under my breath waiting for the sign "marksman destroyed".

That can be a very valid tactic if used occasionally against a human opponent.

- He expects mines, so has expended points on engineers and plant
- He will be on constant tenterhooks as the game proceeds, trying to find your "cunning mine ambush" (tm) :)!
- You have meanwhile saved a few points to buy a few other toys

Alt-tactic - repeat that no-mines tactic a couple of times on the same human player. Then buy mines for real in battle 3 or so, and hopefully he will by now expect no mines and charge in...

If you are playing one of the these countries post 1999 or thereabouts: http://www.icbl.org/index.php/icbl/Universal/MBT/States-Parties, your ROEs will prohibit the use of mines.

I am so happy to see that Afghanistan destroyed the last of its mine stocks in 2002. Makes making those IEDs so much harder.......

We (Greece) still have them and I hope we don't give them up any day.
