Hi Everyone, i am trying to get a new EA Game Started

It would be hosted on llamaserver

Age: Early Age
Game Settings: Everything standard, except HoF 15
Map: Alexander
Mods: CBM
Players: as much as possible
Pace: first ~24 turns on 24h quickhost, then 48h quickhost until at least turn 50, after that extension to 72h by majority vote.

If you join this game, it is expected of you that you play it to the end, or find a sub that takes over for you. It is not needed that you sign the good players pledge, but you have to act like you did.

Please vote on the Map when you sign up, you may also propose other maps, as long as they are wraparound and about the same size.

Nations:

Abysia: RabbitDynamite
Arcoscephale: Ironhawk
Atlantis: Phonics
Caelum: Jazzepi
C'tis: aaminoff
Eriu: Tam-Lin
Fomoria: Fantomen
Helheim: Iron Duke
Lanka: Alpine Joe
Marverni: iainuki
Mictlan: shard
Nifelheim: Ossa
Pangaea: statttis
R'lyeh: Ishamoridin
Sauromatia: Dimaz

ARCO for me (as usual)

Dimaz
August 28th, 2009, 02:00 PM
Sauromatia please, map not important.

Iron Duke
August 28th, 2009, 03:38 PM
I'd like in on this one, helheim for me, map alexander.

Alpine Joe
August 28th, 2009, 04:41 PM
After thinking about map choice for a while, I will cast a vote for Orania.

Ossa
August 28th, 2009, 04:49 PM
I'd like the Niefels

Tam-Lin
August 28th, 2009, 05:00 PM
I'd be interested in playing Eriu.

GrudgeBringer
August 28th, 2009, 05:45 PM
I have asked to keep Hinnom out of the Game.

The answer was (and rightfully so), its up to us if we want that nation out.

If you have an opinion on whether Hinnom should be let in the game please speak up and vote.

GrudgeBringer
August 28th, 2009, 06:03 PM
I also agree with Alpine Joe on the Map...In order of preference

1. Oriana

2. Asia Twist... I was in the original game and the map I have says Asia Twist with ports (is that the one you are talking about).

Fantomen
August 28th, 2009, 07:29 PM
I´d like Fomoria. I vote for Asia twist or Alexander.

Hadrian_II
August 28th, 2009, 08:00 PM
yes, asia twist would be the variant with ports

statttis
August 28th, 2009, 08:08 PM
I'll join as Caelum. Vote for Orania, though I don't care much which map you choose.

statttis
August 28th, 2009, 09:21 PM
Er, change that to Pangaea. I want to try some ideas I had after reading the latest guide.

GrudgeBringer
August 28th, 2009, 11:16 PM
I read that guide too Statttis....

You beat me too changing my nation. After you play this tell me about what and how you did it please.

August 29th, 2009, 01:11 AM
I'm in as Mictlan

I vote for Alexander, I've never played that map

I would like to join in as C'tis. The Alexander map looks very cool, I'll vote for that.

viccio
August 29th, 2009, 09:24 AM
If Possible i play with Vanheim and i vote for Alexander

iainuki
August 29th, 2009, 10:51 AM
Marverni, since Fomoria is taken.

I've never played those maps before, so I haven't really developed preferences, but I'd like something large enough to have a decent chunk of provinces/player?

RabbitDynamite
August 29th, 2009, 11:12 AM
In as Abysia. No preference for map yet.

Hadrian_II
August 29th, 2009, 11:46 AM
all maps have around 300 provinces.

i think i will wait one more day for signups, and then open the game on llamaserver. Also i wont tolerate a single water nation, as it would have it to easy beyond the waves, so if you sing on as a water nation please give an alternate pick.

otthegreat
August 29th, 2009, 03:23 PM
I'll try Ulm. Vote for Asia Twist because I've never played on it before.

Jazzepi
August 29th, 2009, 03:28 PM
I'll take Caelum.

Jazzepi

Ishamoridin
August 29th, 2009, 07:13 PM
I'll jump in as R'lyeh

No map preference (provided there's a decent water mass)

GrudgeBringer
August 29th, 2009, 08:37 PM
Ishamodidan...

No water nations are allowed (see above), you might want to get an alternate selection in while there is a nation you like.

Hadrian_II
August 29th, 2009, 10:38 PM
it is not no water nations, it is no or at least 2 water nations, so if someone else picks a water nation Ishamoridin can play Rlyeh.

Phonics
August 30th, 2009, 01:32 PM
If you're willing to take a newbie into the game I'd be intrested in playing Atlantis or if thats not avaible, Ermor.

Hadrian_II
August 30th, 2009, 06:00 PM
Atlantis is ok, so we have 2 water nations, and they are both in.

Alexander got the most votes, so i created the game on it.

I intend to start the game on Wednesday evening so please try to upload your pretenders until then

Baalz
August 30th, 2009, 06:53 PM
You still taking signups? I'll take TC if you are, no worries if you're not.

Ishamoridin
August 30th, 2009, 07:47 PM
Woah, a game with Baalz. I say come on in, the game hasn't started yet.

Baalz

I hate to disrupt the game, but I'd like to point out that I don't have LlamaBanners installed, I said so and was told before the game started that this would not be a problem, but when I attempted to load the first turn file, the game told me that I had to have LlamaBanners installed. So. I hate LlamaBanners and am not overly inclined to install it especially since I would have withdrawn from the game if it was clear that LlamaBanners would be required before the first turn. If there is a workaround, I can use that, but I'm not aware of it. Otherwise, I see two options: restart the game (Does the game have to be set without using LlamaBanners so that people who want to use it, can? I don't know. Squirrelloid said that this seemed to work in Water Total War, where LlamaBanners was not included as part of the game settings.) or to figure out a way to withdraw without disrupting the game. I don't like this situation, but I don't see any other way to handle it.

I just reviewed the WTW game thread, and the discussion re:llamabanners that I remember is not part of that thread. I'm sure I saw someone claim somewhere that it was an individual choice on whether to use it or not, but at this point I can't track down that discussion.

That said, given Iainuki's dilemma, the logical assumption is that it has to not be hosted with llamabanners included to work. Someone should test this... I'd be willing to try with llamabanners on a non-llamabanners game to see if it works. Alternately, I, and the discussion I remember, are flat out wrong about how it functions, and I apologize for the confusion caused. (It really should be able to function without being serverside, its a fricking graphics mod).

GrudgeBringer

Is there a chance that you just have to have it D/L but NOT enabled?

It sounds like he doesn't have it D/l at all.

Hadrian_II
September 3rd, 2009, 07:11 PM
I dont see how it is possible to have mod enabled only for one player, as mods are tied to the game.

Also as the mod does not change anything, i did not think that it had to be approved by everyone, Also, why did you not protest, when i announced that we would use streamers and standards?

iainuki
September 3rd, 2009, 07:20 PM
I have a way to fix the mod: I altered the .dm file to remove the lines that actually replace the flags. Unfortunately, I don't know if the server will reject my turn file because of this. I can try it and find out. If that doesn't work, I might be able to replace the flag images, but unfortunately I don't have the original flag images so I would need someone's help getting them. I will try playing and sending in the turn file, if LlamaServer rejects it I will have to look at some other option; but I want to be certain I won't stale if I'm actually going to play this game.

I'm really sorry :(. I thought I had, but I had my games crossed. (ViciousCircle3 was facing this exact same issue at the same time, so I forgot to mention it here as well.) I have now made a change to my copy of LlamaBanners: since the mod is cosmetic, I hope that it will not cause problems. I submitted my turn, and LlamaServer told me it is ok. I hope that it will go through and I won't stale; I'm looking into making a test game to be certain. I've also sent a PM to Gregstrom (mentioned in ViciousCircle3's thread) to check that my quick changes will do all right.

iainuki
September 3rd, 2009, 09:19 PM
And another update: I ran my altered version of the mod in a test game on Llamaserver. The turn passed with no problems, so I think it's good unless I run into problems. I have my fingers crossed and my turn file submitted, so we'll see.

Ironhawk

In other news, the people of Arcosephale are happy to announce that thier forges are now open for business! If you have any forging needs that your own nation can't manage (Dwarven Hammers, for example?) just send me a PM and we can work something out. My mystics and orieads give me an impressive path coverage so if you want it there is a good chance I can forge it. Most items done at standard cost or with a minor surcharge.

So, shoot me a PM and lets see if I can help out with those items!

otthegreat
September 29th, 2009, 01:09 PM
Every market needs competition, right? So in that spirit the smiths of Ulm are offering dwarven hammers and other earth items at a significantly reduced cost. Whatever Arco's price we can guarantee we will go lower (what with 50% forge bonus and all). PM me for all of your earth item needs!

Edit: ha I didn't realize how close the timing was, sorry Ironhawk

I would really appreciate an extension today, I have a teacher conference at 5pm and will not have time to work on my turn.

Edit: 3 hours should be enough - I see that it is customary to state the length of extension.

I would support moving to 48h or 36h.

- Alex

Dimaz

36h is not a very good idea because all turns will process at different time, and it'll be easier to miss hosting time. 48h is good, however.

Ironhawk
October 1st, 2009, 12:50 PM
Oh... hmm. Well before I read the thread and saw there might be a timer change, I had a friend on IRC modify my turn slightly and send it back to me so I could resubmit (dont have access to dominions3 here at work and it would have turned). It was done to correct an important error I'd made in trading. I dont think it will have any impact on the game or server but I just wanted to point it out beforehand just in case.

Dimaz
October 1st, 2009, 01:01 PM
I've made such things in this game and others, I too don't have dom3 at work so I ask Kuritza to make some last minute changes, and he even sends the turn, so no problem expected here.

Substitute for C'tis here. I've read the correspondence and will continue with previous diplomatic ties.

On an out-of-game note, would the admin extend turn reminders to 12 hours? I don't want a stale turn in my sleep.

Hadrian_II

is this a request for this turn or the last one?

AlgaeNymph

I've been searching for a sub for some time now but there doesn't seem to be any interest. The problem now is that I can't play dom 3 because I had to reformat my hard drive and my disk is a couple of hundred miles away. Is the only alternative setting my nation to AI?

Hadrian_II
November 16th, 2009, 02:19 PM
if there is no sub, AI is the only option yes. (or you could just go permastalling but this is worse than AI)

otthegreat
November 18th, 2009, 01:18 AM
Could someone change my nation to AI then please? It doesn't look like anyone is interested in subbing.

Dimaz
November 18th, 2009, 02:38 AM
In this case I request 8 hour delay as well as turning off quickhost for current turn, to change some orders to adapt to new situation. Since the information became available when many players still haven't submitted their turns, it would be fair.

Hadrian_II
November 18th, 2009, 04:45 AM
I cant set someone to AI this turn, as i have not enough time now, so there will be no delay to adapt to it.

Dimaz
November 18th, 2009, 05:41 AM
Since you don't set Ulm to AI and he has no possibility to make his turn he will stale before switching to AI, and this information also can be used to advantage of the players who can submit/resubmit their turns before hosting. If everyone agrees not to make hostile actions against Ulm this turn, I agree we can go without delay.

Hadrian_II
November 18th, 2009, 06:05 PM

Sometimes llamaserver does not accept your turn, it is always your duty to see if you get a confirmation email from it. Also i cannot just rollback, as someone might have done something surprising what now would not be a surprise any more, and also everyone would have to redone their turns.

Let it be known that the treacherous nation of Helheim does not honour their words and promises!

Though being bound by a pact of non-aggression they launched an overwhelming attack on the lands of the giants (which will not go unpunished btw)!

If you are a neighbour to their lands - don't wait for them to come to your castles but take initiatve now - you are not bound by anything, they will sooner or later turn on you.

Additionally most of their Thugs are now in Niefels territory!

LupusFatalis

Helheim publicly renounced all its former alliances when the new administration came to being. Further, we had waited at least 5 months, as per the former administrations agreement thereby honoring it. Our assertion is that failure to send emissaries to the new administration is a sign of war to come. These giants have resorted to lies and slander, further validating our aggression.

So again we say, anyone wishing to enter new agreements or renew old agreements with Helheim should send diplomats, that we may discuss terms.

p.s. i am finally death, fighting fomoria, ctis and marveni at the same time in the end was too much for yomi. So now would be the time for someone else to take over as admin, especially as i will be away for 5 weeks starting the 14. january.

I think I can take the admining, I never did it with llamaserver game but I hosted some ordinary PBEM games in past years. I check the forums at least every 10 hours so I hope there will be no problems with missed delay requests. Also I don't know other players' opinion but I prefer to move to 72h schedule instead of 48.

Thanks for setting up the game and adminning, Hadrian!

I dunno about 72h. I could certainly use that time, however every 72h game I've been in the players have lost interest rapidly after going to that timing. Seems to me that beyond 48hrs people stop thinking about the game.

My apologies, because I know this goes against the Player's Pledge, but could someone switch Tir Na Nog to AI? There's nothing I can do; I'm stuck in a single fort besieged by a hero I can't beat, but because it's just the single hero, he can't do any damage to the walls. So all I do is load the turn and send it back.

Thanks.

And apologies to those who have sent me PMs; there was an illness and then death in my family, and it's made things a bit difficult for the past few months.

I was just informed in IRC that Marverni was set to AI without any forewarning of us here. We might need to rollback....

Ironhawk
January 18th, 2010, 07:12 PM
Oh ****!! A new turn just generated. I think we might now have lost the ability to get a new player into Marv permanently...

Man what a mess...

I'll send llamabeast an email and see what our options are. I have a feeling we may just have to suffer through it tho at this point.

Sensori
January 18th, 2010, 11:59 PM
If it'd be possible to take two turns back, I guess that'd mean one less stale for R'lyeh... So I'd be all for it! :p The less turns wasted doing nothing the better I'd say.

AlgaeNymph
January 19th, 2010, 12:48 AM
Or five turns back, eliminating all of R'lyeh's stales.

Dimaz
January 19th, 2010, 02:22 AM
As the new admin I have partial responsibility for the current issue with Marv. So, though I don't like the 2-turn rollback idea personally, I can live with it. However I think the opinion of all (or at least majority) of the participants should be heard. I see why Rlyeh and Ctis are interested in rollbacks; what about others?

Ironhawk
January 19th, 2010, 02:33 AM
CTis and I have been involved in a bloodbath where we have each lost hundreds of gems in our war and revealed strategic intentions and tactical tricks to each other. Rolling back through this would be a complete mess.

If it were anything less than us losing control of a major player I would object. But as this stands, i think Marv going AI will ruin the game. So I vote for rollback (and a lot of praying that it works!) for the two turns needed to put a human back in for Marv.

Ironhawk
January 19th, 2010, 02:42 AM
If he went AI two turns ago that means it was even before the Formoria attack on Helheim, wasnt it? Man what a mess...

rdonj
January 19th, 2010, 02:52 AM
Might be a good idea to get a sub lined up before you roll back. Nothing would be worse than doing a multi-turn rollback to get a sub in, then finding that you can't find a sub.

Dimaz
January 19th, 2010, 04:02 AM
Maybe we can come to some other solution, without rollbacks? As Ironhawk already mentioned that will create really huge mess for everyone involved in wars in these 2 turns (so, basically, for everyone except Rlyeh).
Maybe just divide Marv lands between players equally or something like that, I don't know.
Anyway I'm not going to do anything until the majority of the remaining players say something here. Since I'm not the initial admin I don't know all the nick-nation correspondence so please state something like "Nation XX votes for YY".

Fantomen
January 19th, 2010, 06:12 AM
I think Marverni going AI is a game waster. It's simply too big and essential in the power balance. I therefore vote for a rollback.

It is with great reluctance though. I will not be able to repeat my very successful surprise attack on Helheim. So this rollback will cause the whole game to change direction.

Ironhawk
January 19th, 2010, 01:33 PM
If I am reading everyone's posts right, the vote stands like so:

ryleh - rollback
arco - rollback
formoria - rollback
sauro - rollback
helheim - ?
ctis - ?

So we just need LupusFatalis and AlgaeNymph to cast their votes

Dimaz
January 19th, 2010, 03:06 PM
No, as a player (Sauro) I'm against rollback. I don't see how the mess created by 2-turn rollback can be smaller than caused by Marv going AI. However as I understand Ctis is also for rollback so we already have majority here. Still want to hear waht Helheim and Niefel have to say.

LupusFatalis
January 19th, 2010, 04:39 PM
I am certainly against a rollback, I'm currently waging war with 2 nations, 3 if Marvini is AI... And it kinda screws me over if my enemies now know how I plan to knock out their SCs.

AlgaeNymph
January 19th, 2010, 05:47 PM

Dimaz
January 20th, 2010, 01:41 AM
Hm, for me it's more like 4 yes, 2 no and 1 (Niefel) still has no vote. I'll put a thread to look for sub, then.

Ironhawk
January 20th, 2010, 02:00 AM
Oh you were voting against? My bad. As for niefel, yeah I did forget him, you're right. He is so hard to contact I guess it just skipped my mind. You might try sending him a PM?

As for the sub - no I wouldnt go and find a sub until we have a decision about Marverni and the rollbacks. Ianuki (the original Marv player) was actually the one who noticed the AI in the first place. And he has told me that if we do rollback and need a temp sub that he can cover the position for a while. So until we are sure and have rolled back, its probably not worth it to find a sub.

You should definitely turn off the hosting timer tho - I see its still set to generate tomorrow?

Dimaz
January 20th, 2010, 02:33 AM
Ok I'll try to get in touch with Niefel by PM.
If we already have sub for Marverni - fine, then everything is ready for rollback.
Unfortunately I don't know how to turn off timer completely (I see only postpone, force hosting, change interval & turn off quickhost options), so I just postpone by 24h every day.

Well, *who* is switching sides then? I think we're already at war and I have some conversation about switching sided with Arco and I don't think he's going to attack me now. So, *what* exactly is happening?

AlgaeNymph
January 26th, 2010, 09:31 AM
I told Arco you paid me 15 of each gem to stop fighting you, Arco gave me a better deal to switch sides, and wanted me to make it public as collateral.

Hopefully, whatever pummeling I'll get will be in the game and not the forums.

Dimaz
January 26th, 2010, 09:44 AM
Hm, really? It was soo long ago and I had that conversation with Arco and we came to good agreement for the current stage of the game, and after that I wrote you that my offer was too premature and is cancelled. So I don't see how all this can be applied now except if you messed with dates and made Arco believe I discussed this *after* our agreement with him, in which case you should apologise to him and not to me.

AlgaeNymph
January 26th, 2010, 09:53 AM
It was soo long ago and I had that conversation with Arco.Me too, so...looks like I lost track.

So, the way I see it, you two can postpone hostilities with each other until you both crush me, or bid for my assistance.

Dimaz
January 26th, 2010, 10:05 AM
I think we have no hostilities between us now. Everything was settled on 7th of January. I understood (after talking with Ironhawk) that my decision to switch sides was against our existing agreement with Arco (and not a good idea in general) so I cancelled my offer to you as well as established more direct agreement with Arco. (Perhaps my *initial* move of helping Arco deal with Ctis was wrong but that is another story). After that we had long pauses in hosting and rollbacks so it's actually possible to lose track a bit here. I hope now the problem is solved and we can continue.

Ironhawk
January 26th, 2010, 08:21 PM
Yeah the root cause of any hostility was proof of a double-cross deal. But since that deal has been revealed to never actually have happened, then no violation of treaties has occurred.

And now... back to our regularly scheduled war!

Fine with me - my home computer got infected with a virus last night. Pretty sure I managed to clean it out, but I will probably need to reinstall my OS. So my internet access will be weak for the next day or two.

I'm sorry. There were more problems and I can't do my turns.

If there is a sub willing to take over I'll gladly step out of the game.

I see that someone took the Formoria turn. Can that player post in this thread so we have contact info, please?

Also - I was unable to repair my home computer and it is now dead. I'll try and do turns on my work computer for the next turn or two but if I cant get my home machine fixed soon I might need a more extended delay. I'll let you know...

That player in question is reluctant to post on these forums anymore, he only joined to make a brief but glorious last stand with a doomed nation. He also reports that Fomoria is even more doomed than anyone could have expected due to its terrible development - terrible magic diversity for a 71th turn, nothing but national mages, and even these in low numbers.
So there's no point in further dealings with Fomoria - its dead. He promises to struggle a bit, kick somebody in the groin once or twice, but that it.
Please let me know if you need delay in advance, 10 hours should be enough.

No delay needed, this turn. I'm at work doing my turn right now.

Tho my home machine is still broken, which makes me sad :}

I know I've resisted it in the past but with a huge 2:1 war against the other major powers looming, I think would like to request moving the timer to 72hr cycle.

What do you guys think?

I agree :)

I'd like to request a 24hr extension to the timer.

Haven't had time to play the turn yet and my weekend is very busy because I'm going to be looking at houses to purchase (which is pretty crazy!!). Wish me luck!

So, the two other biggest players, Marv and Sauro, have indicated to me that while they can fight on for many more turns, they feel that I will take the win in the long run. If I've understood them correctly and all the other remaining players agree, I would accept the concession. So, let me know what you all think...

Well I'd certainly agree.

Works for me. Not much I could do out from the sea anyway. :p

Yes, you put it right. We're loosing both military and economy-wise, as current armageddon sequence, altough predictable, still hurts a lot, especially blood economy and fetish handlers. I was trying to cast AN as it was the only way to secure some income and gain economy advantage but my 250 astral unfortunately weren't enough so we decided to end this to free our time.
Very good play Ironhawk, now I see that even if I allied with CTis we probably had no chances against you. I think one of the biggest problem for me in this game was Pan capital - it slowed my growth for 15 or so turns, as I had to keep serious forces there while preaching Pan dominion all around it.
Ok, so, finally, it was a very nice and interesting game, thanks everyone :)

Rejoice, a true god has ascended! Long live Dark-Omen of Arcosephale! :)

Oh wow - thats terrible luck you had there Dimaz. You had to have randomly hit my Gift of Health, which was backed with almost 300 gems I'd been hoarding for almost the entire game. Only a 20% chance of that happening and for such a critical spell of yours. Ouch!

This ended up being a very strategic (rather than tactical) game for me. I inherited the nation early and was given the directive to get the artifacts first, which i did and secured several key ones - notably, the Sickle, the Soulstone, the Ankh, and the Dim Rod + Forbidden Light. But more important than that, given the focus on construction research, I began clam and blood stone hoarding early and devoted considerable resources to it over the course of the game.

That choice of strategy made me extremely weak early on and I protected myself with a very thin veil of diplomacy. My plans were almost ruined by an early war with Aby but I bluffed him and he backed down to fight Tir, instead. This was great luck for me cause while I might have been able to muster a defense vs. Aby, I would very likely have lost any chance of winning. After this is was only a matter of time while I reached critical mass with clam -> Wish -> gem production, so I then went on the offensive and wiped out Aby.

After that was the controversial war with CTis alongside Sauro. Dimaz, I know you think I was more powerful than you and CTis combined at this point but I'm not so sure. Remember that CTis threw the majority of his forces at me and with all my resources I had a tough time defeating him. It was a tough and bloody war, but I learned a great deal about using tartarians and Rains of Stone that I employed in later wars.

Once CTis was defeated and his lock of the Well and the Gift broken, I seized the opportunity to take Tartarian dominance. Put my liches to work summoning tarts every round and out-wished Marv for control of the Chalice. I then proceeded to eat Neifelheim who was weakened by war with Helheim. It was at this time - when my tart-factory was running at full steam with basically no external threats - that my power really exploded out of control.

Sensing that I would very soon be ganged by the remaining nations, I preemptively declared war on Marv to try and defeat him before my peace treaty with Sauro expired. After reconsidering my chances I realized I could not win a conventional war in time and instead decided to cast Armageddon under the assumption that if I was prepared for it, it would hurt Marv and Sauro (with their reliance on blood) far more than me.

To achieve that, I stole the Gift of Health from Marv to both expose his mages to Armageddon damage and similarly protect my own. Then I spent many turns forging armor full-tilt across my entire empire. Even at full production, many of my own mages were still unarmored and died when I cast the first armageddon, but I could not wait any more.

So, now you can see the history of decisions I made with this nation. Thanks to all of you for a really fun game!! I can't believe I've been playing this for half a year and I will admit to being very happy to conclude it with a win! Special thanks also to Dimaz for doing a great job admining and being a great sometimes ally sometimes enemy for the full course of the game :)

Thanks again to all! I'll include my last turn file along with this post if any of you are curious.

Thanks for posting that AAR. I'm happy to hear that my Ctis Lizars survived until near the end and were a big enough threat that they got ganged up on. Thanks again to AlgaeNymph for taking over from me.
