You should at least number your games if you're not going to come up with anything new and clever.

Welcome back old man.

johnarryn
September 7th, 2009, 04:52 PM
Hehe, good point buddy. Well, I think this is the third iteration of the same game, so I suppose this will be "War is Hell 3" officially.

And thanks for the welcome. I just need to make sure I don't commit to like 10 games like I normally do when I get back into Dom3 =)

DomDomDom
September 7th, 2009, 05:17 PM
I'm in.

Sounds like fun, I'm in.

Great.... DomDomDom, you've drawn Oceania. Hunt11, you're Niefelheim. I've updated the first post to reflect this. Welcome aboard.

If you don't mind one of those less experienced players, I would be more than happy to play.

Sure thing Patataj. You'll be playing Yomi.

johnarryn
September 7th, 2009, 10:03 PM
OK. Slobby, you'll be Sauromatia.

AdmiralZhao, nice to see you again. You'll be playing C'tis.

Squirrelloid
September 7th, 2009, 10:42 PM
No CBM? I'll actually have to unload it and see what that changes...

I'm interested, I clearly don't have enough games going on...

johnarryn
September 7th, 2009, 11:15 PM
Welcome aboard, Squirelloid. You'll be Lanka.

AdmiralZhao
September 7th, 2009, 11:17 PM
Someone remembers me from a previous game? That's never a good sign. Were you the one who had that unkillable, uncatchable cyclops? I still have nightmares about that.

johnarryn
September 7th, 2009, 11:19 PM
Haha, an uncatchcable Cyclops? Nope... wouldn't know anything about that =)

If only the rest of my nation had been as unkillable, the game would have been in the bag. Alas.

Squirrelloid
September 8th, 2009, 01:30 AM
egad, non-CBM is so weird. So few pretender choices actually worth using....

Lingchih

Heh, yeah. I need a game... I need a new game badly (ling shakes uncontrollably), but I don't think I know how to play without CBM anymore.

I am game to play again, if there is still room.

Thanks!

johnarryn
September 8th, 2009, 01:15 PM
Glad for the interest. Four new nations have been assigned:

Viccio - Fomoria
Meglobobo - Ulm
Tgbob - Helheim
Pelthin - R'lyeh

Tgbob, I don't think your absence will be a problem... if we've started by Saturday, I will simply halt the game so you don't miss out in the early stages.

We have one spot open, ill wait till tonight, then set up the game on the llamaserver so we can send in pretenders.

I know it is not CB, but if you'd like to play Lingchih, feel free.

Pelthin
September 8th, 2009, 01:36 PM
hehehe... It should be interesting, Just looked and saw I only have a few choices for Pretenders, so I guess that makes it a little easier...

:)

johnarryn
September 8th, 2009, 02:10 PM
This is why I like to play random nation games... it forces people to (often) play nations they are unfamiliar with. I think it helps you experience more of the game.

Juffos
September 8th, 2009, 03:33 PM
I would like to join.

johnarryn
September 8th, 2009, 03:52 PM
Ok Juffos, you're Arcoscephale.

With that, the game is closed. We will be using a random map I found off the llamaserver, as using a random map I created would be a hassle. It can be downloaded at:

http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showthread.php?t=39819&highlight=etruscae

Please send your pretenders in in the next 48 hours. Send pretenders to:

pretenders [at] llamaserver [dot] net

You must have "WarisHell" in the subject line of your e-mail.

The game will begin on 24-hour quickhost, unless anyone has any objections. We can move to 48-hour later. Also, I will pause the game upon request.

Good luck everyone

Slobby
September 9th, 2009, 06:08 PM
Would someone be so kind as to post the map in winzip format and not winrar.

Thanks

johnarryn
September 9th, 2009, 08:57 PM
Rather than do that, you can also download a free copy of WinRar here:

http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm

Up to you, of course.

Alternatively, if you want to PM your e-mail address ill send you the map files in .zip format, Slobby.

Looks like Formoria used a mod when he created his Pretender, or so the first turn message says.

What is the best to do, restart, or let him play with the computer adjusted pretender?

Juffos
September 10th, 2009, 10:40 AM
Restart the game.

johnarryn
September 10th, 2009, 10:53 AM
The game has been rolled back to the "waiting for pretenders" stage. Everyone's pretenders are still there, so only Viccio needs to send in a new pretender. Please let me know when you have done so and I will start the game.

hunt11
September 10th, 2009, 03:05 PM
Johnarryn I am using a mac so the map files you sent me did not work.

johnarryn
September 10th, 2009, 03:38 PM
Hmmm... Hunt, its not clear to me why that makes a difference. I'm not a computer person, but I would think the map files are the same in both mac and windows versions of the game... are you having a problem unzipping the .rar file I sent? In that case you would need winrar, which is available for macs on the winrar site.

Delaying turn again... Hunt11, can you give me an update? Those files DomDomDom post work?

johnarryn
September 12th, 2009, 10:49 AM
I am delaying the game again, until Sunday evening. As tgbob had informed me he will be away today (Saturday) and Sunday, such a delay shouldn't slow things down too much. That being said, Sunday evening we start in earnest whether or not Hunt11 has his turn in, particularly as I haven't heard anything from him.

The deep south, on the right side of where the lake curves around. Lanka owns P26 & P6.

Its likely poor Ulm is doomed vs those demonic monkeys but by attacking me early Lanka has blunted his early expansion, which should cost Lanka later on. Also his scales must be terrible, which will slowly destroy him over the many years of the dominion war. Probably expand or a slow death for Lanka!

All other nations in the area should start organising an alliance to destroy him or face being next on the demonic monkey menu!

Yes, Lanka is so scary that all other nations should ally to destroy him. Look at that score graph lead! No one could possibly ever counter blessed monkeys!

Oh yeah, Ulm is just bitter because i rejected his offer for peace. So sorry. Lanka is more than willing to consider diplomatic relationships with nations whose capitol locations don't immediately stunt our growth. Ie, just about anyone else.

C'tis is truely one of the most wise and noble nations in the world!

The demonic monkeys are now camped outside of Ulm's great walls, feasting upon the brave hundred who tried to prevent the siege. In three to four months the walls will fall and Ulm will cease to be. Probably only to remembered for being the first to bring word of the demonic monkey menace...

Squirrelloid
September 19th, 2009, 04:34 AM
Ah C'tis, quite foolish of you. Well, Lanka is hungry, and I can make monkeys faster than you can kill them this early in the game. So by all means, feed my armies for me. Ulmish peasants are tasty, lets see how lizards taste.

(Seriously C'tis, last chance for peace. Or you can follow Ulm into oblivion. I will not offer again).

Patataj
September 19th, 2009, 08:58 AM
AdmiralZhao: I turned PM on (didn't know they were off by default).
Also, sorry for that affliction on your pretender (didn't know you wanted to attack that province).

Squirrelloid
September 22nd, 2009, 03:53 AM
Lanka is looking to trade for a hammer or possibly two. We have d,n and a little bit of e gems we could trade.

Lanka is also pleased to announce that Ulm has been crushed, and the last vestiges of Ulm will soon be occupied by their new benevolent lord. The Ulmish peasantry rejoiced greatly as their oppressors were thrown down, and a Priest was even seen rallying an army of converts to our cause in a former Ulmish province following the siege. This is a sign of the justness of our conquest, and a warning to the foolish reptiles of C'tis who would interfere in a war that was none of their affairs.

Squirrelloid
September 23rd, 2009, 02:11 AM
We see Mictlan desires to make a meal for the armies of Lanka as well. My demons are not picky, but the rajas are asking to reduce their food intake because they might get fat on all the meat they've been getting.

We might point out to the other nations of the world that a great hue and cry went up about our demons, but Mictlan is at least as bad, if not worse (the jaguar warriors we see in abundance are a far better unit), and they actually do have a dominating position in the game, including the 2nd largest nation at present. Further, their position tells us they likely have multiple neighbors. Given their commitment to warring against us, we'd point out to their rivals that now is a perfect time to strike against the Mictlan threat and eliminate them.

If afterwards you feel obliged to feed Lanka's demons by warring on us - well, you'll have to go through them anyway. And if Lanka should fall, we'd rather fall to something more than crazy people in cat leather.

As a post-script, the nation of Lanka apologizes to the peasants trapped in the last hold out of Ulmish oppression. Current political realities make liberating you infeasible at this time. (Sorry Meglo, i hate to leave you in the game with one province and no hope of doing anything, but Mictlan wouldn't leave me a turn to finish you off properly).

johnarryn
September 23rd, 2009, 09:27 AM
Lanka squeals in terror as it reaps the whirlwind that its mad aggression has called down upon it. Our priests have predicted that the time has come to put this beast down. Mictlan does not begrudge any who wish to aid us in destroying Lanka.

We, too, point out to Lanka's neighbors that now is a perfect time to strike against Lanka and eliminate them.

Squirrelloid
September 23rd, 2009, 01:14 PM
Yes, if you want to throw the game, aid Mictlan. Because rest assured, that's what such actions would amount to. (Not that we have real neighbors to take advantage of your 'offer').

Squirrelloid
September 24th, 2009, 10:41 PM
Apparently everyone is ok with Mictlan not only being a leader in number of provinces, but also adding 2 additional capitols to his empire. Because rest assured, Mictlan has enough muscle to conquer us given time - which is exactly what you're giving him by not attacking him.

Any neighbors of Mictlan who don't want to have to conceed the game to him in ~10-20 turns might want to communicate with us about helping defeat the Mictlan menace.

Micah
September 24th, 2009, 10:44 PM
I think the proper tactic for everyone else in the game is quietly sitting on the sofa with some popcorn, watching Lanka and Mictlan slug it out, and then promptly dog-piling the winner. =)

AdmiralZhao

I don't know why Lanka iss panicking now; they sshould have sstarted panicking when the invinsssible armiess of C'tis firsst marched againsst them. In any casse, Lanka'ss doom iss approaching. After a sshort layover at Yomi'ss capital, our legionss are once more on their way to Monkey City. Make your peace demon-ape'ss, for in 1-4 yearss we sshall arrive!

johnarryn
September 25th, 2009, 12:38 AM
Wah, wah, wah. Mictlan is tied for 2nd in terms of provinces, while C'tis kills Yomi pretty much unopposed and Sauromatia apparently just racks up provinces. So I wouldn't say my win is exactly assured in 10-20 turns... or maybe it is, in which case everyone should just concede now =)

johnarryn
