View Full Version : MP Libra - GAME OVER - Casual EA CBM with various other mods
Starshine_Monarch
October 4th, 2009, 12:50 PM
Game Specs:
------
- Early Age
- Map: Land of Milk and Honey (http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showthread.php?t=43180) by elmokki
- Game status page goes here. (http://www.llamaserver.net/gameinfo.cgi?game=Libra1)
- Llamaserver starting on 36 hour Quickhost and going up from there as needed. This is a causal game, so I want people to take their time if they have to. Because of the lax hosting schedule, I would hope none of you would need delays for the first year or so at least, but they will be given out as requested. Turn reminders will be sent out 12 hours from hosting time instead of 6. If you can't play anymore or feel like you want to quit, do your best to line up a sub please.
- 12 Players: 10 land, 2 Water. All slots are now filled.
- Mods:
-- Single Age Mod :click: (http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showthread.php?t=34265)
-- Special Libra compilation mod by Burnsaber :click: (http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showpost.php?p=713550&postcount=28)
- Settings: All default. Renaming on.
- Victory conditions: On turn 60, all remaining players will take a vote here. Vote here for who you think should be named winner or post with an Abstain if you want the game to continue. No voting for yourself. I'll declare the game finished if we can get a nation with a majority of the remaining players' votes. If we can't get a majority, the game continues and we repeat the process on turn 100. If there are only 2 nations left, whoever gets the other guy to surrender first wins.
-- The game is now over, Atlantis wins!
- Diplomacy policy: Treaties are not unbreakable, so all you have to trust is the other nation's word. However, diplomacy and planning must be done by in-game messages, representing the time it takes to deliver a message by the means available. Magic isn't infallible as anyone who has given any mage a specific script knows.

I'll take Atlantis. By the way, the Underwater Gameplay Enhancement Mod and CBM give different costs for things depending on which one is enabled first. Perhaps a compilation mod would be in order?
Starshine_Monarch
October 5th, 2009, 08:07 AM
Shard: Yes I did mean to include CPCS as well. It just slipped my mind when I was writing the starting post.
Kianduatha: Mods activated later take precedence right? So if I just paste UWGIM into CBM 1.6 after it ends, Conflicts will go in favor of UWGIM?

Starshine: I think that's the way it works, but I've never created a compilation mod before so I'm not entirely sure.
One more obnoxious conflict I've seen is that the UWGIM takes away the coral priest recruit. That would be fine, normally, but CBM 1.6 also made the coral priest into Atlantis' most cost efficient researcher by a fair margin.

The Coral Priest has been replaced by the Coral Shaman that you can recruit in coastal forts. Though they've been removed from underwater forts, their research and initial cost is now about on par with your Mages of the Deep, but the Shamans are also priests and consequently sacred. Therefore, they are still your most cost effective researchers in coastal forts. They're also an inexpensive way into Astral and Nature for you, so I don't think that its really problem if you can get an early Coastal fort. If you're still not satisfied, then cross your fingers for an early Library.
On a different note, let's have some suggestions for a map. I was thinking of using elmokki's Land of Milk and Honey (http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showthread.php?t=43180), but if you guys have any other suggestions, I'm all ears.

Okay, Land of Milk and Honey it is.
Burnsaber has pointed out to me a few problems regarding llamaserver and UWGIM, specifically with R'lyeh. It's easily fixed, but it means I'll have to host this game as Single age. The Single Age mod can be found here (http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showthread.php?t=34265) for those of you that don't already have it.
No asking to change your choice of nation to a MA or LA nation now that the game is technically Single Age, but if you're having second thoughts, feel free to change to another EA nation before we get the llamaserver page set up. Just make sure that there is still 10 land and 2 water nations at the end.

the same one we had with early days. UGIM makes EA ryleh an MA nation, so the game has to be single age
Actually it's the other way around. It makes MA R'lyeh into EA R'lyeh. But because the new EA R'lyeh has a nation number belonging to MA nation in vanilla, it causes some confusion with llamaserver.
The complimation mod is under works, I'll post it today after some testing, because I have to do some EA Atlantis tweaks.

I know.
Anyways. Attached to this post is the mod complimation for the Libra-MP game. Contains CBM 1.6, UWGIM EA 0.84, Holy War 0.9, CPCS 0.8 and Endoz magic site mod.
Be sure to have the Single-age mod enabled when making your pretender. Also, R'lyeh player should take notice that the game will name the pretender you make as "mid_rlyeh", just send that and things will roll smoothly.
If anyone notices any bugs or problems, just contact me. Also, all feedback is appreciated (if you don't wish to reveal stuff that might be useful to your opponents, you can PM me with the feedback).

Game is now up on Llamaserver under Libra1 (http://www.llamaserver.net/gameinfo.cgi?game=Libra1). (I mucked up on making the original game and had to delete it)
Send your pretenders to pretenders[at]llamaserver[dot]net and make sure to include Libra1 in the subject line.

I sent in my pretender without enabling single age mod. When i tried to enable the mod to recreate my pretender, EA Lanka does not appear on the list of nations......What am I doing wrong?
Starshine_Monarch
October 7th, 2009, 10:44 PM
How far down did you look? Lanka for some reason doesn't hang around with the other EA nations in the Single Age Mod, probably because of the nation number. It's actually down at the waaay bottom of the LA list.
Alpine Joe
October 8th, 2009, 04:39 PM
Okay...now whenever I open a game of dominions, or try to create a pretender god or alter mod preferences, single age mod is automatically enabled, and trying to get in a game causes the whole game to shut down with no error message. The only way I can play dominions is to delete single age mod from my mod folder.
Any suggestions? I am sorry for holding up the game so long.
Starshine_Monarch
October 8th, 2009, 05:08 PM
I'm not sure why the game is shutting down on you, but you know that the game starts up with the mods that were enabled during the last game you played. You sure it doesn't just disable when you disable it in Mod Preferences? I don't know what might be doing that.
As for shutting down, I'm not sure, but do you have all of the component mods from the Libra compilation downloaded? If you don't, it could be whats causing that, but I'm almost sure it'd at least give you an error message.

Yeah when I try to click "mod preferences" the game just shuts down without any error message. Same thing happens when I start any saved game or new game. I deleted single age mod from the mod folder, and everything worked again. This weekend while waiting on fakey i will reinstall everything, including possibly dominions, and see if i can make it work. if not you may have to find another player.

That's quite normal. The mods that were in used in the last game you played will be automatically on "enabled" status when you start the game.
and trying to get in a game causes the whole game to shut down with no error message. The only way I can play dominions is to delete single age mod from my mod folder.
Okay, that's not normal. No error message? That's odd. Well the 'good news' is that you are the only player experiencing these problems, so that means it must be tied to your system.
Have you tried re-downloading the single-age mod? If that doesn't work, reinstalling Dom3 should do the trick (just be sure to have the possession of the CD and the CD-key before doing that).
Starshine_Monarch
October 12th, 2009, 08:05 AM
The only one that needs to send in their pretender now is Shard, though he said he was vacationing as well. I'd be willing to wait until Wednesday for him if the rest of you all are.
Also, are you still having problems Alpine Joe?
Alpine Joe
October 12th, 2009, 01:25 PM
I fully reinstalled and re-patched dominions, downloaded all the mods, and the same issue keeps happening with single age mod.
Unless anyone has any other ideas, i'm afraid i will have to bow out of this and you will need to find another player. Sorry about the inconvenience. I had a really good idea for a Lanka strategy too
Starshine_Monarch
October 12th, 2009, 02:56 PM
Sorry to hear that Joe. I really don't have any other ideas, but I hope whatever it is, it gets fixed soon.
So with Alpine Joe bowing out, we now have one more Land slot to fill. First come first served, though since Burnsaber has been such a help to this game already, he gets the slot if he wants it.

We only have 10 out of 12 Pretenders now. We're still looking for one more, as well as waiting for Shard's Tien C'hi. However, we still haven't received word back from Shard in this thread. I'll PM him and see what he's up to, but with this map, I'm still perfectly comfortable with just 10 or 11 nations instead of 12.
So, if Shard is still on vacation like he said, who here has a problem with it being just the 10 of us then?

Declaring war must be done by in-game message? Most of the time there isn't any declaration at all. RP has never been considered wrong.

November 30th, 2009, 11:36 PM
Probably could do with some clarification from Starshine_Monarch.
However I'm treating the game as pretty much like a game against the AI but with the realisation that my neighbours are somewhat sentient. Also as I don't have to check PMs, chat on IRC etc the only external interaction out-of-game I need is e-mailing my turn to Llamaserver. Its like RAND but with potential for some simple diplomacy.
Frozen Lama
November 30th, 2009, 11:43 PM
so i think he's saying that he doesn't think you should have announced to the world that you and neif were fighting. seems a little petty to me, but i could be technically against the rules.
shard
December 1st, 2009, 02:52 AM
Well I'm not saying its wrong; you can do it in-game as well by sending a message 'to all'
I believe the rationale behind it is similar to games like http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showthread.php?t=43097
and other RAND games; however in this case as we know who the players are at least we can still use the board for stuff like asking for extensions + the admin can play the game too etc. I think there was another variation where all diplomacy could only be done publicly on the messageboard.
Starshine_Monarch
December 5th, 2009, 06:17 PM
The communications thing was really more of an experiment. I wanted to see how limiting comms to in-game messages would affect strategy and planning between players.
I'd have preferred all messages pertaining to diplomacy and strategy be kept in-game, but that's really not something I can enforce. Please try to keep it in game from now on, Trumanator, as well as the rest of us.

Due to the holiday season, and all that comes with it, from the 18th to around newyears I'll be unable to post turns. Now I can either post for a short term sub, but I doubt I'll be able to find anyone at this time of year willing.
The second option I'm about to propose is that we simply take a break until the holiday season is over. This of course would have to be a group decision, however I've seen this work for several other games. Up until then I quite enjoyed the game as the limited diplomacy made it quick, but I think we had 1 land nation too many as the middle was REALLY cramped.

It isn't even that you had one too many land nations--it's that the start sites are random, and you guys in the middle got screwed by the RNG. I wouldn't say it's over by any means, either--you have an impressive lead, despite the stales.

Oh to make it clear I'm not for the rollback, its too late now - as fakey said, you may as well restart. Though that in itself might be interesting since everyone should be used to the new mod spells and abilities now.
I remember there used to be special summons for priest/mages in a a previous version of the holy mod - did they get taken out?
Trumanator

You're thinking of the priests and sacreds holy war mod, which was not used for this game.

I'm still around... I think I've just bitten off more than I can chew in other obligations and have been forgetting to do stuff again like check up on the thread, or the entire forums for that matter... I sincerely apologize for all the headaches I've caused you all.
In case I end up disappearing again, PMing me or posting here might not get my attention. Instead, if you have any issues please E-mail me first at theamazingfightingpeanut at hotmail dot com. Make sure to include Libra in the subject line so I know who you are. I check my e-mail every day, so this way you're guaranteed a response.
In order to try and get my act together, and possibly find a sub to play for me, I'll be postponing hosting by 24 hours. I'll still be administrating the game even if I find a sub, so again, e-mail me if there is anything you need.

Ulm is going to need a day or two extension since his comp went down. unless we can find a sub to do a turn for him

Okay this is just ridiculous. TC has staled AT LEAST the last 5 turns. While I like free provs as much as the next guy, a sub is in order. I propose a postponement until one is found or we set TC AI.

I just volunteered for subbing EA T'ien Chi. If anyone has any deals with T'ien Chi, wants to surrender or offer gems, slaves, gold or whatnotn please tell me.
I hope to play the turn as soon as I get it, check that I have all the mods, and assessed the situation.

Damn. This is CBM 1.6? Clams are unique, so THE clam has been sleeoing in my lab for 5 turns? At least? Or is it the .dm I miss that gives me weird stuff (like fancy names of spells in the replays)?

Yes. I wanted you all to know. I'm sure my predecessor resigned because he thought it would be a pushover now that The Mighty Artefact is in T'ien Chi's possession.
I apologize in advance for those who will see my commanders silly names, but I hate those guys called 's', 'f2a' or 'fwsdne'.

Since turn 50 is almost upon us, I feel it may be time to increase the hosting interval. I'm changing it to host every 48 hours now to lighten some of the pressure.

ok I thought I might as well ask.
If anyone's interested in making peace with T'ien Chi, please let me know.
I mean, it's fun to wage war, but right now I have to pick my fights between Ulm, Helheim, Atlantis, Marverni all chiming in.
I mean, Ulm, look: helheim's army is less numerous than yours, why don't you attack them?
Marverni, you're going to have a very tough time getting inside that fort.
Helheim: That nasty Atlantean attacked you! Well, of course, he intended to attack me instead, but still. You shouldn't let this act unpunished.
Atlantis: Helheim will retaliate after that unfortunate clash between your armies. You can't ever be sure of their intentions, so... Retaliate first.
Sauromatia: Haha! You're the only one not ganging upon me! I suggest you use some teleportation spells to join in the fun.

But.....but..... what else am i supposed to do? i'm so bored :( i need to attack something. once niefel died, i had no purpose, i was floating without a rudder. the empire of TC's wealth gave us a destination. if we die trying to get there....... less upkeep i guess. :)

Well. The good thing with being attacked by several players is I can try to reuse the same tricks on different players with minor variants, and they won't have found a counter yet. Hopefully.

Soooo, voting time?

February 16th, 2010, 07:20 AM
I'll check my turn first. Normally, I should have conquered all terrotiry lost to false gods thanks to divine luck. Otherwise, I believe T'ien Chi will have to closely monitor the current state of affairs between Atlantis and Helheim.

LDiCesare
February 16th, 2010, 02:28 PM
ok. T'ien Chi votes for Atlantis.
Rationale:
Can't vote for T'ien Chi.
Marverni survives because nobody cares about killing them.
Ulm isn't able to take over TC despite TC being attacked by everyone else.
Sauromatia just went ai. Their position might be sustainable, but they aren't dominant.
Helheim has a good base but lost some land to Atlantis. TC is alsoo nearer Helheim than Atlantis, which makes it harder for TC to ally with Helheim to fight Atlantis effectively, so Helheim is more or less alone against Atlantis, which lowers their chance of success.
Atlantis: Utterdark is just topping on the cake. Atlantis has strong troops, manages to attack everyone, and lots of thugs and probably a lot of gems to handle its economy.
Frozen Lama
February 16th, 2010, 02:35 PM
but......... Atlantis can't win. they need to stay crippled for the next cripple fight game! :(
i wonder. did atlantis wait until turn 60 to cast utterdark just because of the vote? hmmmm. food for thought

Based on turn 59, I'd have voted for them too. I think they attacked Helheim around now because of the vote. Not sure about Utterdark.

This game shouldn't count for Cripple Fight--we're using the Underwater Game Enhancement Mod, which gives Atlantis a bunch. Combine that with Holy War, and there's no reason to include this as a reason why Atlantis isn't a cripple.

It should count, as the HoF list doesn't particularly care what mods are enabled. At any rate, Atlantis is . close to winning RAND Dawn anyways, so it hardly matters.

I was just thinking that I'm playing a completely different nation--for instance, I only ever made above-water castles and almost exclusively bought even troops from them, something which would be ludicrous in vanilla or even CBM.
Trumanator
February 17th, 2010, 12:19 AM
even troops? What do you mean?
kianduatha
February 17th, 2010, 01:03 AM
UWGIM gives you these badass Coral Tribe Warriors in coastal forts, who are basically elite medium infantry with poison barbs. They're your only high magic-resist troop, too! So I basically rolled over R'lyeh with them, since his giboleths couldn't hurt 13 base MR boosted up to 17 with Decree of the Queen, and his Lobo Guards couldn't hit them(and if they did they got poisoned). With a few stars they can even stand up fairly well to Warriors of the Five Elements. So I basically bought those guys instead of normal, sucky Atlantis troops.
Trumanator
February 17th, 2010, 01:09 AM
hmm, that sounds like it needs to be posted in the UWGEM thread then. Nevertheless, I think you might as well post in the HoF thread. You earned it.

I dunno if I can justify posting there yet--it'd be nice to hear from Ossa, unless we're taking Sauromatia's going AI in the face of my invasion a vote in my favor. Or has Frozen Lama relented with his Abstain vote?
For that matter, who's even the game admin anymore?

His going ai is due to delays not being granted, and probably linked to the fact there's noone actually doing the admin for the game.

If I have been ignoring you it's not that I meant it. I don't check the thread very often so I never received any word from Fakey that he needed a delay. I'm almost certain that I said to e-mail me rather than PM me or post in the thread if administrator action is required. Either way, I will make sure to pay closer attention to other games I'll be administering, but still, if you need to contact me, use my e-mail.
Trumanator
February 19th, 2010, 01:49 AM
Well, it shouldn't be necessary for you to do all that. I've found that its far better to simply appoint a new admin whenever the old one is eliminated. Someone who is no longer in the game shouldn't be expected to continue an alert interest in it.
