View Full Version : LA Glory (And Begin!)
Tolkien
October 13th, 2009, 07:35 PM
I think it's time I come out of my self-imposed (well, RL-imposed) exile from Dominions land. In any event, this is going to be a game for newbies to intermediate level players (I think I fall somewhere between those two), and as such, I've picked Cradle as people tend to be more familiar with it.
Game Name: Glory
Era: Late
Map: Cradle of Dominions
Mod: CBM 1.6
Settings: Default+Renaming+HoF 15+Magic Sites 40
Turns: 24 hours for the first two years, 48 hours after that, and 72 hours on request. Hosting delays also on request.
Nations:
Tolkien-Ulm (again)
Squirrelloid-R'lyeh
johnarryn-Midgard
Alpine Joe-C'tis
Ferrosol-Patala
Kheldron-Utgard
viccio-Mictlan
the Vanishag-Gath
Erio-Bogarus
Raiel-Jomon
ghoul31-Acroscephale
DeathJester-Atlantis
NOTE: If you would like to tweak some game settings (ex. magic site frequency, etc.), post in this thread and put it to a vote. This game's a (quasi-)democratic entity, and so I will take your opinions into account.
Now, I must figure out how to deal with the new CBM changes, specifically the only-one-earth-booster deal and no-bloodstones part as well. Anyways, ignore my ramblings.

Rlyeh. This time for sure!
I wouldn't be averse to boosting site frequency a little.

After writing about Gath, I've been looking for a chance to play them in MP.
Beware Gibborim, my son, and shun the towering Kohen Gadol!

My friend it's interesting to play with Bogarus (Erio)
Kheldron
October 14th, 2009, 03:34 PM
btw is it hosted on Ilamaserver or...?
Tolkien
October 14th, 2009, 03:50 PM
@ viccio- if you really want Ulm, you can take it. I was going to use this game to try and update my old strategy guide for CBM, now that bloodstones are out (which means as an earth/blood nation, Ulm suffers pretty badly), but if you want it: by all means, take it.
I'll just play around with Tien Chi or maybe Atlantis if you want it. Jomon? I'm not sure.
So at the moment, I signed you up for Mictlan, but if you want Ulm, just say so.
Kheldron-Of course!
viccio
October 14th, 2009, 03:56 PM
No Problem,Mictlan it's ok ,I want to try this too.

Tolkien
October 15th, 2009, 04:01 AM
Aight, now that we've got all twelve slots filled, does anyone want to see a slight boost to magic site frequency (5-10), or would you prefer it to stay on default settings? I'll give everyone 36 hours to vote, before I decide and start getting this show on the road.
Kheldron
October 15th, 2009, 06:36 AM
I don't mind a boost on site frequency :)
Deathjester
October 15th, 2009, 08:09 AM
If I have to vote, I'd prefer default magic settings.
Alpine Joe
October 15th, 2009, 10:32 AM
I vote to keep magic site settings at default.
the Vanishag
October 15th, 2009, 11:32 AM
A slight boost is OK with me. I'll suggest a slight bump-up to resources, as well - that'd help Ulm compensate for the lack of bloodstones. I won't deny that Gath (another earth/blood nation, though with more magical diversity than Ulm) would benefit as well.
Ferrosol
October 15th, 2009, 11:39 AM
I don't particularly care either way as more resources and gold just means more unfriendly pachyderms :D and more gems is nice whatever nation you play
ghoul31
October 15th, 2009, 03:49 PM
I vote for default settings
johnarryn
October 15th, 2009, 03:53 PM
Default
Deathjester
October 15th, 2009, 04:25 PM
Me too - default.
Squirrelloid
October 15th, 2009, 06:16 PM
Note that default sites is 35 for Cradle. I wouldn't mind seeing 40-45.
Deathjester
October 15th, 2009, 09:22 PM
Isn't 35 always default for LA?
Squirrelloid
October 15th, 2009, 10:54 PM
I think it varies by map. I know some other eras do.
Tolkien
October 15th, 2009, 11:22 PM
So just a point of clarification, it would be magic site frequency 35 if we go default or 40-45 if we decide on a boost.
As for increasing resources: I'm against that. My goal is not to boost LA Ulm for balance this game, but to figure out to what extent 1.6 undermines Ulm in MP, and to see if I can't figure out how to compensate for it with some of the other changes in CBM. If you're worried about compensating for the changes in 1.6 for Ulm, you don't have to. So another 18ish hours before pretender uploading begins.
Tolkien

Llamaserver is down, maybe that's why everyone is keeping quiet - it might also be the reason why the 12th pretender has not been submitted.
However, it would be nice if Viccio could confirm that his friend is in, or not..
Deathjester

So, is the 12th player playing or not? Should I tell the substitute I have lined up that he can send a pretender in and introduce himself here?
Let's get this game on.. :angel

Tolkien
October 25th, 2009, 12:17 PM
It appears so. :x
As a reminder, the hosting schedule for the first two years will be at 24 hours; after that, it shall be subject to boosting.

I would note (and this isn't meant to be unkind, just a statement) that AlpineJoe, who is playing C'tis, has staled for the last few turns in EndofTime3, another game he is in... looks like he's getting set to stale on turn 1 in this game, might want to start looking for a replacement?
Kheldron
October 25th, 2009, 05:30 PM
To be fair, if we decide to look for a replacement we should restart the game.

October 30th, 2009, 04:33 AM
I've been lucky too, apart from a semi-bad starting position and having a mage killed by a single bowshot from an independent archer.. :(
But I got one of those "market" gold events the turn after, so I'm not complaining.
By the way, I will be going away this weekend. I am hoping we can postpone the game for a day or two?

Stop whining about minor inconveniences - my capitol is sieged by sufficient force from an indie attack that I can't break out. I'm teetering on the brink of setting AI - the first time I will *ever* have done so. Its ridiculous, especially because i have Lk3.
(I also haven't seen a single good event all game...).
Tolkien
October 30th, 2009, 03:13 PM
Ouch, that is bad. Which event? Sea Troll attack?
deathjester: of course! 48 hour delay should be enough for the next turn. Or, if you can get that one in, 24.

November 5th, 2009, 10:40 PM
Ok, I'm setting AI. Attacked by Sea Trolls *again*, this time disrupting a fortress right before it finished, and killing some 25 units. (And yes, my full Lk scales had spread to the province in question). This is just ridiculous and unplayable. Totally hosed by the RNG.

There are often turns postponed, I suppose for very good reasons and that OP is sent PM, but it would be nice to post here to announce it to others.

Yes, that is correct. I got this turn in, so unless someone else needs a delay, this turn could be processed as planned, ie late saturday. That would mean next turn would not process until sunday/monday anyway, which is fine by me. I will be back by then.

The brothers in ice prevailed. As Jomon saw the combined might of the forces of the eternal winter he conceded. The forge of the ancients provided an immense number of magic items and mechanical men (frosted) for Atlantis and in turn an immense number of gems fo r Utgårds Arcane Nexus.
The eternal winter now reigns as the two gods, Badmoon and Lei, ascend as one. They will be great gods of a world where demons and the undead serve side by side with mechanical servants - under the rule of the united peoples of Atlantis and Utgård. Great ships of ice sail the frozen seas and the forge was used to build great new wonders, ever fueled by the arcane nexus.
Hail Badmoon! Hail Lei!
Thanks for a good game. Admin issues aside, it was a good game and I had a lot of fun throughout.
