Just 2 notes.
1) 44 sea provinces for the only aquatic nation seem to be a good bonus.
2) non-preset starting positions means that a capital could have 3 or fewer of neighbouring provinces.
(I remember I started with 2 in Qwerty played on this map. )
So the start is rather unbalanced, imho.

Well everyone knew what they were signing up for, and its too late to do anything about it now. Besides, by the time Atlantis has captured all those 44 sea provinces those poor saps who only get two adjacent starting provinces will have been rushed by those who had more, meaning several huge land empires will be in place to check Atlantis, so everything will come alright in the end.

FAJ
November 12th, 2009, 11:12 AM
A lot of the water is unnconnected. The land nations will definitly have to try and keep the water nation in check by locking him in.

johnarryn
November 12th, 2009, 07:37 PM
Jeez, turn 2 and already im getting hate =)

Yes, much of the water is unconnected, so not sure of the huge advantage. Also, its not like others couldnt have chosen water nations.

Not sure why anyone needs to be locking me in anyhow. But of course, my neighbors are free to attempt to deny me that, if theyd like constant coastal raiding...

FAJ
November 12th, 2009, 09:22 PM
Like you wouldn't do some lovely coastal raiding anyways ;)

So, the game is underway...
Anyone unfortunate enough to end up with a 2-neighbor home province? :D

Wow, well I'm sorry to say this guys (I've never had luck so bad in this game before) but I'm afraid I am finished already:

A vampire count decided to be unfair and attack me on the first turn, my whole army and PD got wiped out and my initial commander died while fleeing into independent territory. I have but a few units left and no territory outside of my besieged castle :(

So I'm going to go ahead and switch to AI since I have little chance of recovering my castle and defeating the hated Vampire Count, but, many months from now...if you come across a haunted city where an evil lord dwells...know that a proud monkey-people once stood there.

FYI: I had misfortune-1

This has been a fun although a short game for me. :D It seems like I as Pangea will not live for that much longer (I will continue playing until I am totally gone). I now has no choise but to revert to guerilla actions to strike the Man lands from the depths of the sea.

I would just like to thank all for a good game especially Man and Ulm for showing me how to play properly. ;)

I'm assuming this is turn 23 you haven't got right?

I've tried asking for a resend. If you don't get that let me know asap and we'll see if 'resetting' your e-mail works (ie: changing it to what it always was).

If that doesn't work then I guess we'll have to pause the game and I'll see if Llamabeast can iron the problem out.

A day that will live in Infamy!

Ashdod decides to commerate the 68th anniversary of Pearl Harbour with some treachery all of their own, tearing up a NAP-3 and leaping across the border with both grotesquely oversized feet.

Some sources are speculating that the Trollvader had advanced intelligence of the attack but allowed his frontline forces to be surprised in order to lure the forces of Ashdod to their doom, whilst other sources are speculating that the Trollvader is running around in circles screaming obscenities and chucking stuff at the wall.

I've whacked a big chunk of time onto the hosting period/interval thingymajob, so we can all enjoy the holidays without worrying about people on the internet trying to destroy our e-empires.

Those of us spending christmas and new years alone weeping softly may still submit turns as rapidly as they like.

I'll switch the hosting back to 48 hours on Jan 2nd.

What I was trying to say above in typically garbled fashion was that their was no need for anyone to submit a turn until Jan 2nd.

The server didn't show this but I thought it wouldn't be a problem because their were only a few peeps still to submit, and a new turn would be processed still with the horrendously long hosting period, which would be shortened on Jan 2nd. However someone seems to have hit the christmas cheer really hard so we didn't do the festive turn I was expecting, meaning I've been putting things back so no one stales.

I think I'll try wrangle the server to host at midnight on Jan 2nd, as thats when I said normal turns will resume, and then we can all get back to murdering each other.

Yeah my bad, I've been terribly lazy admining this game. The turns are on 48 hours, except the current one which was still on christmas time.

I must publish my stupidity for all to see. Strategically perhaps a poor move but that's ok.

So I'm forging and casting rituals under Astral of Corruption. Mages with Astral get 2 pearls and are scripted to cast Returning in non-Cap provinces. Works like a charm. If however you miss a script or a pearl on one of the twenty mages... bad things can happen. Things begin to look bad when the horror is not a run of the mill horror but the Eater of Dreams... things go from bad to worse if that mage is holding a sword of many colors and a ring of wizardry... the downward spiral continues if it also happens to be your pretender with 3 globals. Not looking for sympathy... Just needed to share. Now that I've got that off my chest.

Anyone know why twiceborn did not light up for the pretender? He was horror routed in my dominion. I thought he would show back in my cap the same turn (he was not undead/inanimate/demon).

Anyway... Please send Astral gems to Pyth if BoT is not your CoT (Cup of Tea).

Graeme Dice
February 21st, 2010, 09:27 PM
If he casts phoenix pyre, then he will explode and re-appear everytime he dies as long as he doesn't have more than 100 fatigue. It's a great spell in combination with reinvigoration and lifestealing items.

FAJ
February 22nd, 2010, 09:46 AM
Yes, Belphegor managed to get Blood Vengence and Pheonix Pyre (and reinvigoration :D ) off before you paralyzed him. You actually got him down to 10% hp and 100+ fatigue, so one or two more hits would have killed him. But then you routed.

You won the battle of course, as when he became unparalyzed, I hit the turn limit and auto-routed. Running scared of an enemy army that consisted of 2 hibernating bears at 195 fatigue. And he calls himself the lord of hell...

Pythium will be away Friday to Monday so I'll be postponing hosting for that period.

Also I've set Ermor to AI.

I can't believe this game was still on 48 hours. I thought it must have gone to 72 ages ago.

Anyway its on 72 now.

I kind of liked the ridiculously fast pace :D

72 is appreciated though. I hate playing turns on weekends.

Everyone,

Apparently the host thinks I have received a bunch of gold or something....no idea what that is all about. I have about what I expected, but definitely no large sudden increase. I will of course be willing to submit my turn to anyone for confirmation. I assume this is a weirdo game issue?

It happens sometimes on several games. No worries

No worries Tbird. I suspect the mods sometimes light those types of flags for no good reason.

All,
ano has graciously decided to take over Pythium. Good luck all!
I will be watching as a spectator as much as I can... -ssj

I won't be able to play the next one before satursday evening.
Could you ad 24 hours to the next hosting interval.
Thanks in advance

Guys, with all respect to each of you, I think it's better to stop the game because it became pointless. Even if you manage to win some major battle or two, this will not affect Pythian war machine much. Actually, this machine is growing more and more powerful each turn - you can easily see this from graphs and, believe me, there're a lot of things that graphs do not reflect. Of course, we may continue this for another 90 turns but it will just become boring, in my opinion.
Ulm - loses fortress by fortress and doesn't seem to even try resisting
Man - lost a lot and keeps taking losses. Lost the goddess this this turn. Even if you take that besieged castle, it will decide nothing.
Machaka - is in fairly good position but is with no doubt way behind.

If you do not want to continu, then I require increasing turn time. 72h on turn 95 for a 127-province empire is just funny.

Meant "do not want to stop", of course :)

I've just seen your post, I recognize you're certainly gonna win.
So if Man as no hidden trick in is hat, I think we should stop. I'll do so if Man agree.

Ok then. Let's pause the game until the issue is decided

I think it is long overdue, Pythium has this. Fighting with Machaka is fun, but this game is already decided, I think.

If Man doesn't answer, this means he will be staling. I think it is even more pointless to continue in that case.

I did what I could and Pythium really grew in power during my 5-turn reign. Now I have no interest in pointless blood spilling.

I agree with the group. Good game Pyth. I could not stop you.

Ok, fine.
Thanks for the interesting final turns, guys. I learned a few fine things from this game. Thanks, sansanjuan, for the ability to play this late-game Pyth.
Btw, Strands of Arcane Power is a very good spell (people tend to underestimate it). Not only it mind hunts\feebleminds mages in your dominion, but searches for magic sites pretty well after having wished for the Magic Power. And it requires nothing from you, only spreading dominion. 8 sites found and 8 mages killed\feebleminded this turn. My main goal which I succeeded in was spreading dominion as much as possible and then casting wish.
Once again, thanks and gg.

Alright then since everyone with more than 10 provinces agrees we'll call this game finished then.

Well done Ano (and sansanjuan) and thanks for playing everybody.

Thanks again ano for taking the helm. You are welcome to claim this one in the hof if you'd like.

All : The micro was too much for me without requesting 6 day turns. Crafting 8 communion battles is fun but.... I am very slow.

Also, I learned a lot watching ano's approach. Some things I might have done differently but no one can argue with his brilliant plan for wishing power on the guy with the mindhunt/ search global and then pushing dominion HARD. I may write more later. Typing on iPhones sucks.

Oh, no. Playing 5 turns is definitely not enough for the HoF entry. If it lasted longer, maybe I would like that but not in this case. Just mention that I was here when reporting, thanks.

In case anybody is interested, I may tell you that you could tear the Pythian empire to pieces. You were perfectly capable of doing that, in fact, and that would be very hard to counter. Most probably, Pythium would win anyway, but definitely not this easy.

ano,
you should. AARs are all about making stronger players. We should post a trn. I have some points too. The others made a number of VERY good moves but sometimes did not repeat or follow up a very wise strategy.

Ok, I'll post the turn later and write something. This isn't going to be an AAR, of course, just some notes. Also, from my experience, people are rarely interested in such things after the game ends and they don't win.

ano
May 19th, 2010, 03:23 PM
Perhaps there will be no AAR, because nobody except you, sansanjuan, seems to be interested and with you I talked a lot regarding the situation. And I'm really tired now. Sorry.

This was a fun game. I tried out what I thought would be a decent strategy with Jotunheim, and it turned out okay, except for my inability to apply sufficient force to my enemies, and a general screwup of my blood economy. I kept waiting for B1 Vaetti Hags instead of just recruiting Skratti to blood hunt. Had I had a better economy, I would have had more of the skratti thugs that were working so well.
