View Full Version : Clam Shortage? - Big Singleage CBM game!
Xanatos

So, folks, I want to set up a 20+ man game, just checking interest, I haven't played a MP game in months and wanted to come back with a bang:) (hey everyone!) We'll check interest for a few days and if not enough bite we may make it a smaller game. But for now.
According to people's wishes, we will be going WITHOUT gem gens (thats CBM 1.6)
Age: All (single age mod)
Map: Open to suggestions - otherwise defaulting to Glory of the Gods MP version.
Turn rate: 24 hours/turn
Number of players: 20+?
Mods: CBM 1.6, Single Age (as of now)
Settings: Standard, no graphs(muhahaha, now Diplomacy will be really interesting), 15 hall of fame. How do you guys feel about a small boost of magic sites in the world?
Victory conditions: Last man standing or all players agree
Diplomacy policy: Don't lie please, otherwise, play dirty if you want.
Players (Remember to give me an ERA as well as nation name!)
1. La Rl'yeh - Xanatos
2. LA Marignon - OSSA
3. Removed
4.
5. EA Fomoria - ghoul31
6. LA Ermor - rtyffg
7. LA Ulm - Kref

20. LA utgard - Ishamoridin
+?
So far there seems to be a lot of folks wanting a magic site rate increase, please PM me with your preference on this, yay or nay, and if yay, how much. Also include your opinion on graphs, i think the majority of those who have spoke up said yes for graphs so far.

Why in the world would you WANT clams?

TBH, if you're expecting any sort of mass participation, you'll have to play w/out gem gens. If you end up doing so, I'd be interested, otherwise not.

Well, I guess you can play with yourself, Xanatos.

I'd be interested if you opted to play w/o gem gens. If so, I'll take Helheim.

The gem gens, while add another layer into the game, isn't a good one in my opinion. It causes lots of useless micromanagement, and pushes everyone to aim for one of those with the nations they are playing, or they will be almost excluded from the late game. Removing them does cause a bit of a balance issue - mainly in the way of missing an earth booster.

I will play with gemgens, when I return (in about a week).
Without gemgens, its just silly. There is a plenty of games without micro, and lots of wargames with cool different units. I'll play Starcraft when I'll miss zerging, or chess when I'm sick of micromanagement.
Remove gemgens, and everyone will be forced to to aim for IMBA fast conquest, lying their *** out to convince everyone not to unite against them. Actually, its more or less a case with gemgens too, but without an alternate way to get more resources its pushed to the extreme.

There's no reason to resurrect that debate here. Suffice it to say that around 80% of the non-newb players nowadays will not play w/gem gens.

A note to Lingchih, and Trumanator, Please keep your opinions to yourselves if your not interested in playing, I Didn't post this game for you to tell me I can play with myself or that people won't join, as I said in the title, we will go with what people vote for. If you feel so strongly about this that you need to flame someone, cut your wrists.
As for everyone else, I'll update the thread with your names and nations, and I suppose we will be going without gem gens as that seems to be the popular choice.

I am out, sorry.
Not playing against LA Ermor + LA Rlyeh again.
Not so much need La Ermor, can switch to Ea Abyssia, especially, if others will be against allowing Ermor.

A huge game *without* graphs?? You may not have gem gens, but you've made all your micro back by having to manage a legion of scouts.

Scouts and graphs do not provide equivalent information. One should not be a substitute for the other. That said, turning graphs on doesn't change the fact that I would have scouts all up in your provinces.

No to graphs.
Yes to some kind of victory condition, but there should also be the alternative to win through concession.

I'm a fan of more magic sites.
I care not for what the graphs do.
I've always wanted to play a game with dominion-based victory condition.

Yes to graphs, yes to magic site boost. Agree to "x" capitols held for "x" number of turns, if "x" is quite big )

Scouts and graphs do not provide equivalent information. One should not be a substitute for the other. That said, turning graphs on doesn't change the fact that I would have scouts all up in your provinces.
Of course they dont provide the same intel. But *without* graphs you have no other way of collecting info. So instead of taking 5 seconds to look at a research graph you are going to have to be watching all your legion of scouts every single turn to count up the other guy's sages or whatever. And write down each turn what the other guy's troop numbers are in all 50 billion of his provinces to try and get some sense of his overall numbers. That is even more mind-numbingly boring than having to collect all my blood slaves by hand every turn in the late game.
The alternative being, just having a handful of scouts in key areas and relying on graphs for what they were designed for: general information. (Which a smart player can manipulate to their advantage, btw - to address the forthcoming complaints of "oh but everyone gangs me when graphs are on").
