2 other things:
1. Water nations allowed, but I'd prefer to fill all land slots first [assuming we can get so many, otherwise land-only]
2. Game may start after New Year's, unless we fill fast and do some turns before Christmas. There will be a break for holidays, depending on people's plans. At least 22th-3rd, with quickhost on.

Tollund
December 11th, 2009, 10:27 AM
I'd like to play Arcoscephale.
Zeldor
December 11th, 2009, 10:59 AM
Ok, 2-3 more people join and I will switch all that wanted water nations into water nations and free up 3 land nations they had as alternates.
Tollund
December 11th, 2009, 02:06 PM
Oh, if Arcoscephale isn't free because of a lack of water nations, then I'd like to play Caelum.

I am willing to take Vanheim if Folket plays his underwater nation choice.

Glory?
Zeldor
December 12th, 2009, 06:29 PM
BTW, I can let mod nations in, if they are tested and balanced.
I'd like balanced wrap-around map. Hard to find something. But if we get more players it's either Alexander or Asia Twist [and we will need reasonable victory conditions for that].

Ugh, does it have to be those maps? They kinda make my eyes hurt. Not to mention being confusing as hell.

Mod Nations Woo Hoo!!! Can I have Nehekhara the Tomb Kings? Which other mod nations are allowed?
Squirrelloid
December 12th, 2009, 10:07 PM
Tomb Kings have a very imbalanced pretender choice. Otherwise they're probably fine.
So no crazy golden scorpion thing or whatever.

I'm fine without the Scorpion Pretender :)

Wait, mod nations allowable? What are your thoughts on Warhammer Dwarves?
Frozen Lama
December 12th, 2009, 10:47 PM
I'd guess that they need a little more play testing first. maybe after dramatica finishes. unless Zeldor says so of course :)

December 13th, 2009, 07:31 AM
I will take a look. Gregstrom wanted me to take a look at nation of his, as he wants to play it.
Sombre did some work on balancing mod nations recently, so I guess all of them could be allowed, unless settings like that make them uber.
About map - it's hard to get anything with 3 water starting locations. I suggested Alexander and Asia Twist as they have it and would work if we got mroe players. But they are a bit big in player/provinces ratio. Maybe Pashadawg could make a new map for us, but it would mean starting after New Year. Opinions?

Right now that mod is unusable. You should correct .dm file. It needs work on all .tga links - / not \ and cap letters where needed, otherwise game won't let it work. It needs nation text parsed etc etc.

Interesting... there's a version on llamaserver at the moment which seems to be doing okay. I'll put a bunch of work into it and post something.
Zeldor
December 14th, 2009, 08:54 AM
There is? I just followed download link from llamaserver and found zipped file in 1st post and tried to use that.
Gregstrom
December 14th, 2009, 10:11 AM
Maybe llamaserver uses Windows?
I've altered the mod, but work won't let me upload it. Watch this space, I guess. What's the issue with parsing of the nation description?
Zeldor
December 14th, 2009, 11:44 AM
It's all messed up, nothing shows in new line, where it's supposed to [Priests, Magic, etc]. I am pretty sure that llamaserver uses Linux. Did anyone try to play game with that nation there? And it won't really care about stuff like that really as it's for graphics only.
Gregstrom
December 14th, 2009, 12:28 PM
I'm playing with Themiskyra on Llamaserver currently (Dramatica), so I know that works fine. I've no idea how to put new lines in a nation description, sadly. However... see attachment.
Zeldor
December 14th, 2009, 01:11 PM
Ok, fixed it. That modwriting is really poor :P
Mistakes: [I don't know what to do about nation description though]
- "/" in the beginning of links should not be there, it creates "//" and causes a bug
- capital letters do matter, you cannot have p linking to P and other way - so I had to erase "/" from all links, changed everywhere "themiskyra" to "Themiskyra" [to match graphics folder] and make all .tga files start with capital letters
Nation looks cool, but why valkyries and shadow vestals as recruitables? Other units make sense.
Anyway - concept looks fine, but I think that nation needs some tweaking and balancing to make it viable in MP.
namad
December 14th, 2009, 02:49 PM
maybe we should go with indies9 to match the whole high everything theme?
indies9 with 250% gold should be EASIER than indies5 100% gold anyways... even with indies9 awake pretenders might be totally unused...
Gregstrom
December 14th, 2009, 05:00 PM
Part of the mod looks like the creator shoved in a load of female stuff because it was 'thematic to have all the female units there'. I'm not sure the vestals and valkyries add anything to the nation, but since they don't seem to be power units I'm not that worried about their presence.
I'm aware more tweaking and balancing is needed, partly because I suspect it'll have a pretty weak mid/late game. That's why I'm trying to get it into MP games at the moment.
Squirrelloid
December 14th, 2009, 05:15 PM
The valkyries and shadow vestals are power units. Shadow vestals are *amazing* with S9, valkyries at least look pretty awesome (thinking W bless at least, probably WS or FW).
Zeldor
December 14th, 2009, 05:16 PM
Ok, as for the map, we can either:
1. Scrap water nations [but alt nations got already picked] and play GreeceStain [new Pasha's land only map]
2. Get few more and play bigger map [Alexander or Asia Twist]
3. Wait till [if] Pasha can make us new map [so till New Year].
Zeldor
December 14th, 2009, 05:25 PM
Gregstrom:
Sure, their mages are weak, but give good research. 110B mages are not very expensive either and can work well with worse scales needed for sacreds. Valkyries and Shadow Vestal are surely considered one of the best sacreds around. Of course different blesses work for them. Recruitable fear cavalry is great too, very expensive, but stacked fear does wonders. I don't think you'd get reliable test info here at those settings. That nation here would be way way stronger than on normal settings. Also - they could use some magicless commanders. And composite bows are really strong, which makes their starting army really strong too.

I vote for 0 indies.
I think we should use the Ystraad map but both are good.
Quitti
December 15th, 2009, 03:03 PM
Everlandia looks much prettier, but it's full of place names which don't make sense unless the provinces are named according to them - so Ystraad will be less work and will make more sense with "normal" prov names, as it's places names are less pronounced in the graphics. I'll play either though.
kianduatha
December 15th, 2009, 03:52 PM
Yeah, gonna have to go with Ystraad too, despite the prettiness of Everlandia.
My vote is for high indies.
Have you gotten a chance to look at Dwarves yet? It'd be nice to play them--I want to see how they do with larger battles and if they really do get overrun by higher numbers.
Zeldor
December 15th, 2009, 05:55 PM
If you mention mods, give me a name and link too :) Are they tested and approved by Sombre? And we have settings that make reliable testing of mod nations rather unconvenient.
Quitti:
Adding some names to the map is not hard really, 15 minutes maybe. Nothing compared to work required to do rest of the map [terrain mostly and neighbours]. So don't base your choice on some names :)

December 16th, 2009, 12:37 PM
Ok, so:
- I have set Independents to 8
- game is now closed, we have 17 players, 14 land, 3 water
- I am working on the map, we can start when I finish it and some people can check for problems :)
- Victory Conditions set at 7/19 caps, will it be ok? I don't think we want more with settings like that
Zeldor
December 16th, 2009, 01:13 PM
Hmm... we have 18 players, 15 + 3, so we could use Alexander. A bit big, but way more balanced than whatever we can get fast. And tested. 16.4 provs per player is a bit much though, hmm...
Zeldor
December 16th, 2009, 03:01 PM
Game is created on llamaserver, you can submit pretenders. We will use Alexander map, without special sites, with remade starting positions [map I used to create game is for 16 + 3, but I will replace it].
Zeldor
December 16th, 2009, 09:38 PM
Here is map file. Check for any possible mistakes. If you run test game make sure to hand-select 3 water nations, otherwise it may want to place more than 15 land nations and ignore special starting locations.
It's just renamed .map file, it's not compressed, so change extension to .map, do not unpack it.(stupid forum)

Ahh, yes, the feces, urine, and vomit colored map. I remember it now. I deleted it because it made me ill. You should really lay off those colors Pasha.
Nevertheless, a map is a map, and this one seems fine. Ran through two years with it, and saw no problems. It should be a good, though probably a long game.
Pasha: I know it was an early map... but if you need brown, used a light brown tinged with grey. If you need gold, use golden, not yellow. If you need green, use the bright green of a new spring, or the deep green of an ancient forest.
Meh, just my two cents. It's a map, and I can play it.

- patrolling with immobile commanders allowed [minor bug]
Why do you think that's a bug? I think it's intentional, since the immobile Watcher unit gets a patrol bonus.
Tarrax
December 22nd, 2009, 07:40 AM
I also don't think this is a bug. After all, don't immobile pretenders have movement (albeit little) in combat? That means they can move within province which is what patrolling is.

Rising high over the Savanna of Utopia, the colossal giant wanders mindlessly. The tribesmen shout, "La-la-la-la-la-la" in adoration, and prostrate themselves before it. I'm not complaining about this game, but for future references for games with these zany settings... expansion rate will be surprisingly very strongly tied to how early and how adjacent the availability of "recruitable indie commanders" is....
as such i think starting with 3provinces is a mistake for settings like these, because randomly players will be given the opportunity to recruit 2commanders on turn1 or only 1... this can be a big bonus considering the earliest someone without that 2nd recruitable commander can expect to get him online is turn3/4 ... that means an extra 2-3 commanders early in the game with which to provide additional leadership for expansion armies/reinforcement lines...
if we all started with 1province... it wouldn't be a matter of randomfactor it would be mostly skill... the skill to decide which adjacent province is most likely to have a recruitable indie commander instead of knights or shamans
Zeldor
December 27th, 2009, 11:59 AM
If that game proves to be fun and we want a remake, I think we will go with NI version of the map. I did not notice that problem really, I was rather thinking in categories of getting recruitable commanders for fort constructions.
namad
December 27th, 2009, 01:19 PM
i mean fort construction is great... and forts started on turn2 are brokenly stupid...
it's just that fort builders are slightly more common than leaders... and if you start a fort one turn late it doesn't cost you 5provinces the way starting an army one turn late can... so yeah...
we're both right... and we both didn't know what the other guy was thinking... but our ideas COMBINE to form a super idea... as we discussed on irc
Squirrelloid
December 29th, 2009, 12:05 AM
NI hurts some nations more than others.
Especially with aquatic nations, lack of independents makes invading the land *really* hard as opposed to just hard, because your only troops come from the ocean, or if you're lucky, the coast.
Nations without archers can also suffer relative to nations with archers.
Anyway, welcome to turn 2, i just got back from christmas with family. (ugg, fricking late planes).

The empire is set upon by what appears to be a dastardly alliance. The emperor has decreed that any with a sense of fair play who step forward to aid us will be rewarded lavishly. The forge lord of Ermor will not forget the allies who came to us in our hour of need.
Ulm and Shinuyama attack in a coordinated strike seeking to overwhelm the empire. They will bleed heinously as they attempt to storm our castles, but they are likely to be successful in keeping the empire from launching a counterattack if the imbalance of forces remains. Any who attack along either of these foul conspiritors' other flanks will find them fully committed to attacking an entrenched and intractable foe who bleeds them mercilessly and will give no quarter. Are there any with a sense of fair play who will step forward? Are there any of a more mercantile bend who would court the favor of the forge lord? The situation in Ermor is far from dire if an ally steps forward now, the forge lord's favor could be valuable indeed. The cry goes out, who will answer?

The goblonoid tribes massed in the wilderness. Barbarian rituals around roaring bonfires they asked for the blessings of their huge fat godling. They screamed for blood and slavered over the lands of the empire. As the legion assembled to crush them like all barbarians before, a knife in the back. The fools in Ulm had allied themselves with the beasts in an attempt to topple the great empire. A daunting host assembled across the border – huge goblins with their mighty bows to the north and thundering corps of black knights leading archers to the south. The time for talking was past, Ermors enemies feared it too much to leave a fair fight. The time for killing was here and it was time to demonstrate why the Ermorian empire was feared from horizon to horizon. Fair fights are for the weak, the legion marched and woe to its foes if they fail to find a killing blow.

It was a dark time for Marignon. The voodoo ritualists and spider worshipers of Machaka had struck without warning, and with devastating result. This might be the final battle. Crossbowmen shouldered their weapons and the Knights of the Chalice prayed with all their hearts.
The day of battle. As they looked upon the opposing army, with its swarms of archers and masses of grotesque and monstrous spiders, all hope seemed lost. The Grand Inquisitors prepared the knights however, and the crossbows loosed their bolts. They inflicted grievous damage, but the arrows of machaka fell among themselves as well, cutting them down like wheat before the scythe.
As the spiders reached the lines of knights however, it was as if they met a brick wall. Their riders stabbed with lances, and their mounts tried the same with their fangs. The Knights were tireless however, and plied lance and sword to deadly effect, striking down spider, rider, or hoplite for the Lord. The crossbows fled, but the knights remained. Some fell, but many remained, and finally their foes tired, and fled.
The Grand Inquisitor Tomaso surveyed the ravaged field, and breathed a heavy sigh as he contemplated the next battle.

Struck without warning!? What are your priests doing in your cathedrals? Singing hymns and chasing the nuns? What did you think we meant by our proclamation that "the unauthorised temple Marignon built on our border will be destroyed"?
We do admit that we vastly underestimated the strength our your knights. But our spiders revel in the glory of battle, and our riders have no fear of death, for they know thier spirit lives on in their eight-legged companion. Our departure from the battlefield was, er ... um ... a fearless charge into the face of the enemy, except we went the wrong way by mistake.
Death before Surrender!

Ux'xthllphlai contemplated the pool of dark liquid in the bowl before [it], heavier than the surrounding sea water. It swirled erratically. The glowing corals in the room pulsing along with its movements, creating the effect of a strobe light triggered by the movements of a rabbit in a sealed plastic bag. Suddenly the behavior of the liquid changed. It eddied into dimensions other than the physical. The bowl deformed, becoming a klein bottle; similar to the proverbial cat in a box, it both contained and didn't contain the universe. When the universe was in the bottle, it had no volume. There was no in the bottle. Ux'xthllphlai looked out of the bottle at [itself] looking at [itself]. Colors out of space and shapes out of time paraded in the nothingness that may or may not have been contained by the bottle with no volume. An electron traveled forward in time, and when time ended, it became a positron and traveled backward in time. Ux'xthllphlai became the bottle, and suddenly the path became clear.
Hours later, Ux'xthllphlai regained consciousness. The corals glowed but dimly, a low constant light. The bowl was once again a bowl, empty of anything except the usual sea water. Righting itself, Ux'xthllphlai went to find the council. [It] had seen what [it] needed to see, the things with the fish tails would soon understand that the falling of the star was to be their doom.
*translators note: [it] denotes a genderless pronoun that nonetheless is distinct from the pronoun used for objects, and specifies a member of the elder peoples who remember the time before the star fell.

Shinuayama is land of peace and prosperity. Our leaders, from smallest province to our glorious capital city, care for order and harmonious growth. Our hearts are filled with love for all that lives. So when we started to hear scary rumours from refugees, coming into our southern provinces from Ermor, we could not ignore them. Those were tales of extreme cruelty, death, satanistic rituals, practicing forbidden arts on defenseless citizens. Each day there were more and more of those tales, as refugees kept coming, asking for shelter and help for their families. We could not sit and watch someone build empire on pain and cruelty. Shinuyama decided to come and bring aid to enslaved people, living under Ermor oppression!

Albrecht von Alemanya surveyed the battlefield. Dying and dead men, both Ermorian and Ulmish. Slaughered horses, translucent scantily clad girls with shadowy spears, struck down and maimed by the antimagic theurgy of black halberds. Black knights, armor and horse barding pierced by ermorian javelins. Crushed skeletal horses and horsemen, crossbow bolts sticking up from the field the feet of the two armies had ground to something resembling more mud than hard earth, soggy with blood. The smell of blood was overwhelming.
Yes. It had been a good fight. A hard victory. Though only a handful of forces remained, they had reached the sea, and messages told that reinforcements were on the way.
Later that night, at the temple of the false Ermorian god, one attempting to usurp the title of the Lord of Forges. Barrels after barrels of rich mineral oil was called up from the deeps by the remaining master smiths. Bodies of the killed Ermorian Hastati, wrapped in plain cloth, wet from the oil, filled the temple. They had to be burned to ashes with the temple, or the ermorian priests would surely practice their unholy magic upon them, reanimating the poor and misled, though well trained soldiers.
Albrecht conjured up a bolt of flame and threw it inside the temple of the false god.

That poo is freeze dried and hard as bricks. Very much like sling stones! Especially when thrown by big gorillas. Some of it is tiger poop which is sacred and can be blessed.

Hail Lords of Utopia!
The Noble T'ien Ch'i are beset by implacable foes. Both the Vanheim and the Shinuyama under the flag of an war alliance. Both reach beyond their means and have become over powered, both assault the sovereignty of T'ien Ch'i and both commit significant resources in their campaigns.
Surely there are those amongst the lands of Utopia that seek, like the T'ien Ch'i, to preserve its namesake, to maintain a balance of powers. If those among you are prepared, put an end to their ambitious imperialism and claim their over-extended empire's for your own. You can of course expect the T'ien Ch'i to offer its cooperation and our nation is not without its share of friends already.

Goatblower, deity of the Agarthans, surveyed his people. They huddled in one corner of the Great Square, made nervous by the capital's terrible emptiness. They were all dressed like princes now, even the humans. Their finery had been earned the hard way, and many of them still had the wounds to show it. He addressed his people.
"Agarthans. The ape-lords of Bandar Log will remember this day forever in their nightmares. Their archers, their tigers - even their elephants could not break our lines. Those few who passed through our gates fell before they had the time to see more than the blades that ended their lives. They may break our walls, but our will is unbroken. Agertha stands!"
The crowd's answering roar of "AGARTHA STANDS!" was loud, but it was quickly lost in the cavernous darkness of the empty capital. The grinding as the statues lining the square raised their swords in salute echoed back as little more than a faint, rattling exhalation.

Deep inside Chaos Mountain, Utoombo Moosman, supreme commander of the Machakan forces, sits in his comfy chair and dictates to his owl quill.
"Dear Friend, I wish to approach you with a request that would be of immense benefit to both of us. I am approaching you in the strictest confidentiality, cross my heart, hope to die. I am a son of the late MR SMITH of Marignon and I to make some fortune out of a situation that I am obviously left with no other better option. My father was brutally eaten by spiders in the Machakan wars..."
Soldiers burst through the study door, spear tips glinting in the dimly lit room. They are led by Captain Muddok, but that's hard to tell, since he's just another naked guy with a spear.
"Gah!" Utoombo says. "Fools! Here I am at work, trying to improve the finances of our impoverished nation, and you disturb me? Do you want to get paid this month, or not?"
The soldiers snicker, and Captain Muddok says, "Well, see, Pythium heard of our war plans, and in a stroke of diplomatic genius, has paid us off! We don't work for you any more, we've been bribed, he's greased our palms, paid us out, the old pot-de-vin."
Utoombo fades three shades. "The spiders! Without a war to pursue, they will grow hungry and eat us all. You idiots!"
Captain Muddok says, "Oh, there's no need to worry about that. We've set 'em loose on the goblins. Say, that's a nice chair!"
More colour drains from Utoombo's face, and he leaps for the door. He's got no chance of escape, though, and his screams are shrill in the small room as Muddok and his soldiers enforce a quick change in leadership.
Deep inside Chaos Mountain, Muddok Wildermoos, supreme commander of the Machakan forces, sits in his new comfy chair and continues the dictation.
"... but before he died, Collosal Moose be praised, he named me his sole heir and beneficiary. But according to the law my father's fortune of ONE MILLION FIRE GEMS must remain in the country unless there is a foreign relative of MR SMITH who also can claim ..."

Just playing keep up. There's some big, heavy hitters in this game, and if I wanted to keep up with them, I needed land, money, gems and castles. Making you a protectorate would not have achieved that. There was no malice in my actions. Your lands were lightly defended, and you were at war on a different front.

The once mighty nation of Jotunheim are no more. The Frost Giants surrender to the Powerful Pythium Empire. We ask for equal treatment for our citizens and we offer up our treasures in exchange for eternal salvation for our souls.
Congratulations to Pythium for keeping me alone in this overmatched fight through excellent diplomacy with his neighbors.
Pangaea, since you have previously struck a deal with Pythium over the disposition of my lands, I will leave to pythium to conclude his deal with you. I will continue to defend any provinces I have left against poachers. Long live the Mighty Pythium Empire!

Honestly, i think the #1 reason why you didn't get any help was that nasty global that Oceania put up turned all the attention that way.

We've been fighting for a dozen turns already. I doubt anything would have changed even if Oceania didn't cast NB. After all, there are still several small easy to take nations around.

The peace loving Oceania and their murderous and bloodthirsty centaurs? I think not! The nation of Ulm offers substantial price reducements to anyone who succeeds in making a dent in oceanias assets, be it underwater or above water, or in the fields of global spells. Contact me with PM or on IRC for closer details!
You people have checked the army graphs lately, have you? Oceania is getting 24731 income this turn, and he has the biggest army backed up by mass regen + mass prot + relief + whatnot. Just to point out some numbers here.

Nice. Astral Corruption... haven't seen that in a while. Probably because it is banned in almost every civilized game. I do see though, that it was not banned here.
Ah well, Machaka just declared war on the world. Let's make this quick folks.

The lords of Chaos Mountain know not of these "games" you speak of. But this "banning" does sound like a good idea.
We hereby proclaim that the goblins are banned from entering the Machakan Capitol, on pain of death!

Ah well, AC is gone for now at least.

do we need to switch to a 60hour hosting schedule? that's how long all the turns have been anyways... or would switching to a 60hour schedule just end up making all the turns 72h :-p ?
Lingchih
March 17th, 2010, 10:39 PM
Yeah, what Namad said. A longer hosting schedule is needed.
namad
March 17th, 2010, 11:16 PM
i'm not sure i want to go to 72h... going to 72h often kills a game
a compromise might work or... or we just keep granting extremely liberal delays but 'trying' to go as fast as we can
i don't really care either way i just think it's funny that we're operating on a defacto minor delay granted every turn
Frozen Lama
March 17th, 2010, 11:23 PM
Well i think a couple stales will help solve the problem. Since most of the time, no one has actually asked for an extension, they are just lucky that Zeldor is so forgiving. how about not giving delays unless they are asked for and see if people clean up their act? if people who are always late then ask for more time, we can maybe extend. but i think some of them are just being lazy since they know Zeldor won't stale them.
oh, and i am against 72h also. i lose intrest when its that slow
Zeldor
March 18th, 2010, 04:08 AM
Yeah, I will grant delays like asked [like now].
I am against increasing hosting schedule. I prefer to simply add some time whenever someone asks for it. You have 48h to ask for it.

It is done then, hosting is 72h. As we have Easter now, I am willing to grant extensions. But I hope we won't need any postponements after Easter.
BTW, as there appeared many Utopia clones after we started this one, I don't think I will be doing next version so soon, I think next game will be Madness 2 [WoG Remake map, 24 players, MA + LA, 150% settings, diff research].

i wish i had joined dystopia
i've just realized that rich games are really fun and exciting but require 10000000times the work...
i think for a rich game to be perfect it might want to limit itself to... say... 80-150provs and 12-20players
Zeldor
April 1st, 2010, 07:07 PM
Well, if I'd make another one, it'd be on Greece Stain, so 10 provs/player.

it's kind of sad that the number of battles that will be happening this turn are proportional to the number of days I had to do the turn ... instead of the number of units I have :-p
I suppose though if I were more gung ho about things I could put in more than 1-2hours a day... it's just that 2hours a day max has always been plenty for dom3 for me in the past (even if I was in 2or3 games... yet utopia alone as my only game takes so much more than that that I just do half of what I'd planned don't bother to check my work and email it in)
at very least zeldor knows what I am talking about as well as probably some others ... definitely I think we'll have to convert rich games into crowded games ... a really crowded really rich game sounds like it could be quite interesting... because territory would become MORE meaningful than ever before... without totally breaking down?
who knows... also... after you see how pathetically few units i've scripted you might question why it took me 6hours to do it? well... I waste a lot of time issuing retardedly pointless orders (you preach you don't preach etc) so that i'm burnt out before i finish analyzing battle orders (out of that 6hours only 30-80minutes were even prolly used on scripting units in battle locations)
honestly i think if the lab size were like 500 instead of 50 i could've completed the turn in several HOURS less time.... half my turns everyturn involve shuffling items onto and off of item storage mules this is a really big design flaw in dom3 that the designers couldn't conceive of games big enough that players would need a bigger lab... maybe they thought no one would shuffle items around???
but if my lab was like 500spots big i could start my turn go around smashing lllllllllllllll then go around and equip items on units where they were needed.... instead i have to go around checking 1000commanders for 1specific item that i can't recall where it is stored to transfer it to one other specific commander then repeat repeat repeat
now i could just place all my storage mules in a row and organize by item type... BUT that doesn't work when you are using thugs as storage mules to defend against losing your "lab" to remote attack spells
conclusion... if we don't trend towards RICH and CROWDED then
maybe a rich game that was large but had abnormally low magical settings would reduce micromanagement time and still give people absurdly large numbers of mundane units to see die? and ... normalmanage ?
because really it's gems that are a biotch to micromanage... units and squads and commanders... while that requires a lot of time to micromanage... that's the FUN part!! i mean out of the 6hours i spent on my turn... the one hour i spent specifically laying out orders to battle units was the most fun hour.... and if I could've done the boring stuff in only ONE hour I might've spent TWO hours on battles and we might've had twice as many battles or 150% as many battles scripted 150% as cleverly
namad
April 3rd, 2010, 02:33 AM
all this time wasted on annoying micromanagement....
this is why I wanted to just let everyone fight over vp's until someone was near winning then just let us all battle it all out via a complex series of never ending teleport attack wars....
would've been a lot less real life time to manage ... maybe pythium would've been uniquely qualified to perform this type of warfare? but... I'd have been perfectly willing to stay on 1vp and let everyone else have a headstart at 4,5,or 6 because more than caring about maximizing my chances to win.... I wanted to minimize the amount of real life time it would take me to win in the unlikely event that I might win :)
my play has been far too sloppy for my own tastes yet still takes more time than I'm willing to spend a tough nickel to be stuck into!

I am going to stop fighting shinyuma, I imagine under these conditions he'll be able to kill me pretty fast. Feel free to try to bribe/pay/convince me to fight shinyuma.
